A lot of these "collectable-less" challenge runs end up being extremely difficult at the beginning where the game is trying to give you both paths to travel and extra lives, and then get much easier to play "as normal" once the final stages roll around. All in all a great vid, I didn't even know there was a land before time game

There's 14 Land Before Time Games apparently, and ye I'd have to agree with the opinion you have on collectable based challenges.

Finally, the content I've always wanted. The question of Can You Beat The Land Before Time (GBA) Without Collecting Any Tree Stars has haunted me since the day I picked it up. I stared at those tree stars wondering, what if I could deny these beautiful creations the privilage of being looked at - nay, *observed.* Then, truly, would I become the monster I sought to destroy? Probably not but now I know the answer to the question

For a licensed GBA 2d platformer the OST of this game has a surprising amount of good tracks Also nice video

I played this game as a small child and remember hating it and then remembered, "oh yeah, I like subjecting myself to things I don't like for the sake of entertainment" and that paired with not having a solid video idea have birth to this run.

I was board so I did a little tas to try and skip the first tree star as it seemed probably do able. But I couldn't figure anything out in the limited testing I did. I tried a enemy bounce into double jump and also sliding under the star. The player's hitbox is just too big. You can avoid it while crouching but the moment you stand up you collect it.

Mhm! I wish there was more slip to the slide but sadly no :( I'm surprised someone brought out TAS tools for this. Ty for reinforcing my answer to the question!

@@GenericMystic No problem, BizHawk is really easy to use to tas/test things. This game seems simple enough I might try testing the other 2 problem areas. The last set of leaves looks like it might be doable with a fall off into 2 jumps. The game seems to have infinite cyote frames so you can walk off the ledge then have 2 midair jumps. And as you said in the video, the game is an older one. There might just be an obscure glitch that could be used to skip them.

@@GenericMystic Turns out you can skip the Tree leaves in 1-1 as well. Thank you speedrunning community. Aka the singular person who posted runs. There is an infinite height glitch with the character select menu of all things. So a 0 tree star leaf run is possible. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ppWLztWglsm-qNo.html
