It's cool, but it had its problems. It was a bit of a grind to get to the next world and some challenges were a little redundant, as you could employ the EXACT same strategy you did for the previous star as you do for the next star. Overall, I do like it though. It's nice to return back to older levels with new plants. In the current version of PvZ2, you never go back to previous worlds to test out new plants on old zombies. PVZ1 had a whole new game plus thing. This is just lame.

Ahhh, this certainly brings back memories. If only popcap kept some of these features in future updates. The maps looked amazing. Stars added some replayability. The mini games were unique. And the yeti existed! Just sad that they took away so many of the features that made the game so unique

Everyone in this reply section are prime examples of why the internet was a mistake.

In this version of the game, you can actually instant kill any poncho zombie with coconut cannon as long as you don't remove their poncho before you hit them with a cannon. It oddly gives coconut cannon this bizarre, but cool buff in Wild West.

7:00 Fun Fact there was once planned something else for the final levels that got scrapped "hero zombies" with the only one we know that also has its code finished to the point that pepole use it in mods is the cleopatra zombie

This reminds me of back when I was younger and my primary strategy was a line of kernel pults. Good times…

Fun fact : It the older version (after 5.8.1) there is a hidden features called "Dynamic Zombies" which is a difficulty based system that exist to all levels, there purpose is to spawn additional zombie depending on waves, so if you're playing BWB with either older version (like before 5.8.1), it will be harder to finish! But no worry, the system will decrease its zombie spawning mechanic by the more you lose in the level.

I’m actually pretty sure that back in this version of the game, Pianists could “eat” Chili Bean and be killed by it, and Pharaohs could withstand a Cherry Bomb blast. Also, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s so hard to imagine PvZ without Gargs. They’re just so iconic and here, the Endless Zones almost seem…empty. Good thing the next update gave us those and our lord and savior… *THE TURBO BUTTON*

I remember getting through the power pinch block on bluestacks by holding control and spinning the mouse wheel. Had no idea you can manipulate it using controls.

Not to shit on anyone's parade, but having actually played this version of PVZ2 (on an emulator, I'm not that old), the star system with the challenges is not as fun as it's cracked up to be. If you're looking to 100% this version of PVZ2, you basically go through the entire game without a single objective until you replay levels to earn stars. And this is not like Angry Birds, where you can earn three stars in one level. No, you have to earn each individual star, one replay at a time. And the levels send the exact same number and type of zombies on every playthrough. For instance, if you play Ancient Egypt Day 1 for the first time, it might send 4 basic zombies. Then, when you replay it for the 3 stars, you have to replay it once for the first star, with one or two PVZ objectives attached to the level, like not spending sun for 30 to 120 seconds, or not letting zombies trample the flowers. But the same 4 basic zombies will be sent, at exactly the same times. It's literally just Groundhog Day four times, but with an objective or two tacked on really lazily for each retry. All told, there are 11 mandatory levels in Ancient Egypt, 10 mandatory levels in Pirate Seas, and 10 more in Wild West. You have to play 31 levels four times over to 100% the game. And that's without including the gate levels, which luckily don't need to be replayed. You're also doing this when plants had a default recharge speed of 7 seconds instead of the current 5 second recharge, zombies moved a tiny bit slower, and your sun was worth 25 instead of 50. Oh, and don't forget that there's no fast forward button. The game moves at a snail's pace, and due to the 25 sun meta, the levels are actually shockingly difficult with objectives tacked onto them. But hey, you don't need to replay any of the levels for any of the stars. You can just bang out 31 levels and that's technically all you have to do for the game to basically be beaten. There's no final boss, no puzzles or minigames, and no reason to stick around. The first PVZ game had 50 levels, but this version of PVZ2 has only 31 mandatory levels, so it strikes the perfect balance of being way too short to just beat the mandatory levels and call it a day, but also way too boring and drawn out if you aim to 100% it.

this version looks more like a pvz 1.5, and it’s odd. it doesn’t feel like the sequel we got, but more like a version 2 to the original game with more plants and zombies. i think i still would prefer modern pvz 2, even if this version was patched with modern qol features like double speed, but it’s really cool nevertheless!

I didn't even know that the game was THIS different when it came out. I always knew about the old map, but didn't know about the stars, keys and unlocking minigame levels. It would actually have been really cool to have them in the game again in some way

If i remember correctly you can keep some on the conveyer belt so you get less of those plants, if I'm wrong correct me
