It's not the story aspect, but the technology aspect. Namely the Cryptographic Sequencer using passwords instead of wavelengths and having the radio listening. Detective Mode having armed enemies in Orange instead of Red. Remote Control Batarangs having variable speed, etc. I know they can just be passed off as gameplay improvements, but they never felt right to me.

The grapnel boost is fully implemented into Batman's set of gadgets in Origins, yet 10 years later that same gadget is introduced as the first prototype in City. That's a contradiction in the timeline.

@@tjknight Actually I think it's because the grapple boost in origins and city are different. Batman's suit in origins is more armored and thus the force of the grapple accelerator is going into the suit rather than his arm so he isn't hurt by it and because his suit in asylum onwards has less armor the grapple would hurt him if he used it so he had to wait until a new version that would work with his current suit was built so it doesn't mess with canon.

I really like the format of this. Most challenge runners on KZread do a tedious summary of the game's plot while mixing in forced, unfunny humor. But you describe the challenge and each of its obstacles very matter-of-factly, with no bullshit in-between.

@@alexandrufit2591 Origins or Asylum, to me, are the worst of the series - but they're the worst of an amazing series, and still great games themselves. It IS canon... but it causes some issues with continuity, unfortunately... Most of it's good. I believe a lot of the disdain from it begins with it not being developed by Rocksteady. On top of that, it didn't add too much gameplay wise, it's laggy on PS3, it seems to be unresponsive sometimes, and (I've heard, but I've not played it in a while, so it's hard to judge) it has some poor level design. Some I agree with, some I don't; either way, it's a good game, and I like it.

@@TristenSarelvun Agreed, it did have some technical issues. I guess what I meant is that some people have an actual disdain for it, when it's leagues over many games of its era, regardless of the fact that it wasn't as innovative as the other games in the series. As for continuity...it's a mess across all games to be honest. A lot of stuff that happened or mentioned in Asylum were later retconned. It's obvious they never knew it would become a series. Asylum was basically made with the assumption that it takes place "in the comics".

Ooh I've done the no gliding challenge. I called it the Catwoman DLC though.

I actually new the answer before I watched this video. When I was younger I just decided to play through Asylum and City without gliding as much as could. If you want a novel playthrough of these games, try like no holding and not using gargoyles and stuff much. It’s actually pretty interesting. Thanks for the video. EDIT: I committed the cardinal sin of KZread comments. I just assumed what was going to happen before I finished the video. I was certain you couldn’t get past Number 1. Pie is on my face, you are a cleverer man than me.

In the medical building, you claimed that you need to hit all three switches to completely eliminate the gas. That’s not actually true. What you need to do is hit the button closest to the ground. What the game intends for is that you’ll hit each one in sequence, but speaking as someone who adored the remote control batarang as a child, I can assure you it is most certainly possible to hit the third switch first and completely skip the first two. That felt good… sucks that it had a cooldown in AA, though: made trying multiple times annoying

So that pirating punishment is avoidable

It is the dev intended way to glide-kick him, but you can just drop off the gargoyle and sneak up on him for a silent takedown. Which is exactly what I did.

The story aspect is totally fine, but the technology really irks me. In this game, Batman has the Grapnel Accelerator, and when we get to City we see the Grapnel Boost as a prototype not even ready for field deployment. The Cryptographic Sequencer has the same model and hacking minigame as City, despite coming before the wavelength hacking from Asylum, and having the ability to hack radio signals. And Detective mode gives armed enemies an Orange tint like City, despite Asylum giving them a Red tint. It makes no sense for these technologies to exist now when Asylum exists, and it always bothered me.

You don’t have to glide kick him, that’s just what the game tells you. You can just drop off the gargoyle and silent takedown him.

The speedrun activates the zip in a corner in the sewers. Right outside the vent that leads into them.
