Can You Be Cremated As A Catholic?

Ойын-сауық

Since 1963, cremation has been an acceptable option for those of the Catholic faith. Whenever possible, however, the church always prefers the interment or entombment of the body because it gives fuller expression to our Christian faith.
When cremation is chosen, the preferred sequence for the final rites is for cremation to take place after the Funeral Mass. Whether cremation takes place before or after the funeral rites, the Church expects these families to seek an appropriate final resting place for the cremated remains of the body. The scattering of the cremated remains or keeping the cremated remains in a home are not the reverent disposition that the Church requires.
The Catholic Cemeteries offer the following options for those choosing cremation:
Niches - an above ground burial crypt, sized for an urn containing the cremated remains of the body and allowing for identification and remembrance.
Graves - smaller sized graves that allow for a grave marker to be placed identifying and remembering the deceased.

what i’m getting from this video and also based on what i’ve experienced directly in a Catholic mortuary back in 2018 was a sense of trust and comfort. We are lucky to be Christian and have the transitional pass away process in loving arms of Lord. My thoughts and thanks goes to all our brothers and sisters working in Catholic funeral homes ( specially those who you don’t get to see them and are working backstage).

I'm Catholic and would like to be buried with a regular headstone. My husband is Syrian Orthodox (we were married in a Catholic church) and wants to be cremated. So our compromise is to buy regular plot to share - me with a regular burial and his urn buried in the plot as well. We're in our 40s so lots of time God willing but it's good to talk about these things to know each other's wishes when the time comes

Interesting Sandra but just remember this: it is NOT what you, I, or he wants but what God commands us to do. Anything less than that is an act of an infidel. Remind your husband that his body is NOT his. God is the Father, the maker, and the finisher. Ask him if he ever read THAT in the Bible! Some faiths do not believe in God’s Word.

Yes Catholics can and have been permitted by their church for a long time now. You will return to dust one day, whether by burial or being cremated, I guess one just gets you there quicker.

Cemetery to me is a place to sleep until God wake you up. Just like Lazarus, when Jesus said our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep let us go and wake him up. His disciples says Lord if he sleeps he will get better, not knowing he is dead.

God says, “Ashes to ashes, dust back to dust” Our bodies were taken from the ground, and shall return to the ground- whether by burial or cremation. A true Christian does not see decay. Jesus said to the man on the cross, “TODAY you will be with Me in Paradise.” They did not take their bodies with them- we have proof of that. Jesus needed to preserve His because, lol, He needed it back. That will not be the case for us. SO WHY would you leave your family with a financial burden they can’t afford? The population today is much different than then. The land should be for the living, not the dead. “I’m sorry” says mom, “we can’t live on that land, or that one, or that one, no schools or playgrounds because that land is reserved for burying the dead.” “Then where do we live, work, and play mommy?” “We can’t sweetheart.” Do you see how ridiculous? You can still have a funeral with ashes, and remember the love of that person. “If you surrender your body to flames, but have not love, then you gain nothing.” I’ve lost my childhood teeth, some nail clippings, and cut hair, I even have my umbilical cord reserved just for you. I give you my body parts so that you can remember me. (ridiculous) We are not our bodies, but rather IN our bodies, and someday when we die our souls will come out of our bodies- just as we come out of a car it truck. Our bodies are just a temporary vehicle in this life. (1 Samual 31:12).
