Can Wind drive 13 strange Lego Gears?
Ғылым және технология
Different unconventional gear types that Lego does not make, all integrated into a Lego display machine that rotates the gears and itself. The machine is wind-powered, utilising a vertical wind turbine. The shifter turns the machine 1/12 of a revolution at a time, while only displaying one gear at a time to reduce friction.
All the gears have been 3D printed using an FDM printer and Silk PLA. I designed some gears myself and also redesigned others to fit perfectly within Lego dimensions."

Would love to see more of these custom 3D printed lego parts. They seem very mechanically versatile
Thank you for including the proper names. I've been trying to figure out what hypoid gears are called for ages now--I'd only ever heard that mechanism referred to as the "low-center drive".

early trucks used differentials with worm gear primary drives rather than hypoids. bought the tailshaft a bit TOO low... hence why some of the old trucks use chain drive from diff to axle. in a car, they let the engine sit a bit lower in the chassis, doesnt have such a large tailshaft hump, etc... before differentials, about the only place they popped up was in overhead lineshafting, letting a shaft continue past a drive gear as the axles arent on the same plane. and a lot quieter than bevels, with better tooth loading... but lots of sliding friction. sigh.
I love the usage of 3D printed parts! It's another level of creativity! Edit: If only Lego made a website where you can suggest parts to be produced.

Maybe if a part is popular enough, the community can do a vote on particularly popular ones.
Harmonic drive gears are interesting because they are incredibly compact while also having an incredibly high reduction ratio and none of the sliding contact or axis change that you get with a worm gear drive. Because of this, they have a lot of applications in robotics, like driving the elbow or knee joints on a bipedal or quadrupedal robot like Boston Dynamics makes. The alternative in those cases would be hydraulics, which comes with plenty of its own problems (mostly about how to keep the fluid IN the system, and not "dripping on the floor").

A similar mechanism called a cycloidal drive offers some advantages. It can be backdriven to offer impact absorption in joints, very important for quadrupedal robots. It can take more torque before failing and doesn't use gears so has very little backlash.
Just a technical note...your helical gears are a special case called screw gears or crossed helicals and are more closely related to worm gears in their operation than traditional helical gears.
Everything you make is just amazing❤

"advanced air ventilation system" has no business being as funny as it is
It looks like a worm I lobe the way it moves 2:17
There is something hypnotic about watching pardoxical gears rotating from the side angle…In could relax to that all day everyday Edit: I have just seen the cycloidal gear 👍

They make my head hurt to be honest
1:20 the origin of Citroen Logo 😏
I'd say the Cycloidal Gear is my favourite one, because of the grey wavy bit at the top. So satisfying. Also the Hypoid Gear looks like my bath/sink plugs (just not the kitchen one, that looks different)
i want this guy to build a BIG Lego engine it would be awesome
This is amazing. I was honestly hoping to see them all turn at once.
In the beginning it looked like a 3d render. The direction of the video is amazing!
1:25 these are actually the gears that Citroen's founder initially invested in, and made a lot of money with them, cause they're much quiter when used in industrial machinery. And the logo of the car company represents these gears
You're an awesome creator, your fantasy plus engineering skills make my dream ideas real. Thanks a lot
I love the “Advanced air ventilation system,” lol.
Top notch video and music editing. What a delight to watch!
now that Brick Tech has incorporated 3d printing hes going to be unstoppable

Great piece of work here! The custom gears all look fantastic, love the indexing setup
Awesome! Thank you! And it comes with the 3D files, even better!
I love this! Thank you for making this video 😍
Another Comment, but did anyone notice the Paradoxical Gears has the same sense of rotation for both the gears! That is they both rotate clockwise, while most pairs don't!
Very good! This is what I came looking for - the type of clever mechanical design I love to see. Lego is so versatile!
creates super advanced lego gears powers it with a plastic tray
with a million of you bro, keep up the good work
This canal is under rated! 😢 It needs more support
Would love to see you build a working wind turbine powered by real natural wind.
these are super cool, i’d love to see a situation where these are more practical than normal gears

Planetary Gearing is incredible durable and compact and is used in garage lift motors, Combat robots, pencil sharpeners, etc. Edit: I have more information. Harmonic gears are used in high precision applications, such as 3d printers. Hypoid gears are used in car transmissions. Herringbone gears are quieter than normal spur gears and have smoother operation.
This is beautiful!
This channel teaches me engineering above all else, which is really cool.
Nice one, thank you for the video
Never knew some of these gear combinations existed until your video. LEGO should make more than just spur, bevel and worm gears.
This feels like 13 legendary heroes gandering around for a important occasion
i was in aww by all the types of gear systems, never heard or seen any of these
I’m not sure if this build is to showcase different gear types or a Rube Goldberg useless machine and frankly, IDGF as it’s absolutely awesome.
Fascinating.
Look like some sick engineering showcase lol
Did not see that manic beat + montage coming at the end, great video!
I need to see a video where you chain as many nautilus gears as possible
I hope this dude has a partnership with LEGO we could see some cool stuff in store.
So impressive!!!!
going to be Honest, it took me until 0:35 to realise these were Custom lego pieces
Nothing short of amazing.
Sometimes reinventing the wheel is not only justified, it's also really cool!
At one point he's gonna build a Dyson sphere using only LEGO.
I know that lego constructions are super expensive, take this little help to put an smile in my face with your videos
I wonder if you can make a whole car engine from lego. From the camshaft, to the gearbox. To the belts and all that stuff.
Congrats on the 1 mil😊
The true mystery is the measurement of the meshing of each gear drive system 😉 awesome display 👍🏼
This is a museum piece ❤
Nice! Those ”herring bone” gears is the origin of the Citroën symbol. They experimented, but couldn’t manufacture them cost efficient.
the shift drum really peaked my interest. would love to see it in a transmission of some sort
I love the Cyclodial drive, good work
How often do you use 3d printed pieces in other videos?
I have so many ideas to use these cool gears. Amazing.💪
Very cool. Still thinking about a Hypoid Diff for my fast car to get the weight a little lower. But difficult to have selfmade gears that can take the power
Imagine those gearboxes in a car's drivetrain.
Congrats on a million subs. Ngl, you might have had the quickest million journey of all my other subscribed channels. Love your videos and hope you reach great heights.
that cycloidal gear looks so funny from the side! it's like a little worm dancing causes the gear to spin
These creations make me wanna lego again Also happy 1 Million! 🎉
Those paradox gears look like a ships propeller. I like that 🙂
I can watch those paradoxical gears for hours without getting bored
Whoever this man is, Give him a Job at the Lego Company. He can design some very cool new Gears for new Sets.
I kind of want this. These gears are beautiful!
this looks like such a cool art piece I love it
The on beat part at 4:07 was pretty cool.
Would it be possible to share the Lego modified files? I’d love to work with a few of these! Thanks for the awesome video!
Interesting story about Herringbone Gears, i think the car manufacturer Citroën had their trademark from a part of the Herringbone Gear, because they made gearboxes for industrial sizes and ships, befor they went to production of cars.
Some of these are really trippy
At the heart of the machine it's still the old and trusty: Cog/Spur Gear! 😌
i wish he could make an upgrade to the air engine and do some kind of sports car and record its speeds
I think the Nautilus gear should be called golden ratio gear
congrats on a million subs!
What is the bricklink part for the big orange gear in the planetary gear box
congrats on 1 mil
Great video, but where did you get those nautilus gears? They look like official Lego gears but I don't be wrong
🎉🎉Congrats on 1m!! You deserve it🎉🎉
I love that you use 3d printing to make pieces of Lego that you need but don’t exist 😊❤ also it’s a genius idea 🎉
This is really sweet and cute!
Cycloidal gear had a sick beat
0:20 I wish we had the helical gears in Lego.
I wont be shocked when he someday builds an Portal out of leg which leads us to another universe
2:10 yo that's a dope beat
simply applied genius
Congrats for 1M subs!🎉
that was one of the most satisfying videos i have ever seen
We need to see a before and after of your arms after all that fanning. Btw those 3d printed pieces are so cool
This thing is beautiful
My favorite was the paradoxal gears.
The inspector at 3:46 approves. 😺
That was thoroughly engaging... Awesome!
Congratulations on 1 million subs!
Reminds me of the Scrapheap Challenge clock, should they bring the show back a scaled up version of this would be perfect.
Where do you get all of your parts, do you buy them in bulk or do you get them from Lego technic sets?
The compilation is so cool!
