They deserve recognition for their hard work and creativity. There's definitely hope that they can find new opportunities, whether at Nintendo, which is known for its innovative approach to gaming, or by channeling their talents into indie game development, where they could have more creative freedom. Either path could be a great way for them to continue making their mark on the gaming world. These people may have hope getting employed by Nintendo or start coming together make indie games.

Ensemble Studios was an American video game developer responsible for the creation of the Age of Empires series. It was massively popular during the 90s and early 2000s. Then Microsoft bought it in 2001. Since the RTS genre couldn't be adapted for the consoles of the time and others genres were gaining tractions, Microsoft simply decided to shut down Ensemble in 2009. It would take more than a decade for MS to revive the series and make a big deal out of it like a bunch of hypocrites. Moral of the story: Don't trust Microsoft. Most importanly, don't allow yourself to be bought by Microsoft.

the Xbox brand counts on mostly younger people who haven’t been around to see the whole pattern

Truly disappointed in Microsoft for the closures of Tango Gameworks. Finally a studio that they have that gave them a ton of great reviews and awards last year from both the media and gamer audience for which they haven't gotten for such a long time and they dicided to close that studio down. It's like committing business suicide over greedy. Hifi Rush got better reviews scores and won more awards than their competitor Sony Playstation biggest exclusive game for last year which is Marvel Spiderman 2. Also Hifi Rush also beat their own Xbox biggest exclusive for last year which is Starfield in both review scores and awards. How can they close that type of game studio, how is it even possible for Tango Gameworks to even get cut after receiving so much praise. Finally a Xbox owned Japanese studio with quality and they close it down, what Microsoft even thinking. Over 400 or more video games released last year and Hifi Rush was in the top five or ten of must play for 2023 and they closed that game studio are you kiddy me. As an strictly only Xbox gamer words can't describe how disappointed I am.

We Xbox fans been waiting for years for Xbox to have a ton of quality studios and just like that they owned one and shut it down like it's nothing. Wtf!!!! @@RowKing2323 they didnt shut down quality studio's but there worst studio's its the same as a football team if a pplayer isnt good that get kicked from the team better yet if the player isnt good he dont get drafted. it simple if it cost more money than they make get rid of them. there games didnt have enough players because there games wasn't good. they had chances to make a come back but they failed Redfall had almost a year to turn around some and they did nothing but add 3 little updates fixing bugs that still isnt fixed and no content after a year. the dev team that made prey wasn't they same dev team that got layed off. and they draw unemployment. so instead of blaming Microsoft blame the teams because it is there fault for not delivering what people really want not the company losing money. learn the difference.

You fail 1 time? Don't get me wrong, this is sad and would rather not have this happen, but Tango Games has had game after game not hit. No one played Hi-Fi, no one bought it... Ghostsire did not do well, Evil Within 2 sold less than a million copies. Redfall was a disaster and the majority of the devs who worked on it left throughout the development of the game.

Additionally, corporations wrote huge checks during the pandemic because gaming was expanding. This capitalistic breakneck drive for unsustainable expansion is madness, and this is the result. The bubble bursts and it’s always the small people who get blown up, never the CEOs.

Shinji left the studio a long while ago, shortly after HiFi rush. Tango was dead anyway as soon as he left. Xbox needs to close more studios, close garbages like 343i, Ninja Theory, compulsion(😂😂😂😂sbi😂😂😂😂), definitely initiatives. The value is in the IP, studios are just cost centers. Stupid. They are making right biz decisions. Stup/d. They can license and outsource the development and avoid the risk of owning and running a multi million studios. I agree that Phil needs to go. Bet the decisions came from Satya, Booty just a scapegoat.

​@@davidfrazier6308Went through 3 xbox's in a 7 year period due to rrod they didn't fix that in a year lol. Their xbox one e3 reveal was a massive disaster and they never recovered from that. Xbox one gen was a failure and this is coming from someone who's favorite console is the 360.

I’m done with them. No coming back now. Getting a PS5 next week.

So after doing a bit of research this is what I found: Microsoft shut down four Bethesda studios due to a "reprioritization of titles and resources" and to prioritize investment in Bethesda's portfolio of "blockbuster games". Xbox Game Studios chief Matt Booty announced the restructuring in a memo to staff, writing that the closures were "grounded in prioritizing high-impact titles and further investing in Bethesda's portfolio of blockbuster games and beloved worlds. So basically a reprioritization of titles and resources is basically a fancy way of saying we're downsizing. I don't understand how Microsoft can shut these studios down when they turned a profit. Microsoft posted a revenue of $236.58 billion in the 12 months leading up to March 31, 2024, which is a 13.97% growth year-over-year. In 2023, Microsoft made $56.2 billion in revenue and a net income of $20.1 billion in the fourth and final quarter of its 2023 fiscal year . For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023, Microsoft had an annual revenue of $211.92 billion, which is 6.88% growth year-over-year. I dont understand this.

I don't trust Xbox, Sony, Epic Games, Steam, anyone...at least I know the one Exec who ever took a paycut to save studios is Nintendo...and they suck with this emulation stuff so I dislike them all

Yeah and with all the shutdowns, suing, copyrights, hatred of fan games, emulators, and nintendo content creators, players/tournaments of old games and hatred fans in general and such from nintendo I dislike nintendo and all the other companies you mentioned too. No company is a good company one way or another. This is just a race to see which company can look the worst in the shortest amount of time and xbox is leading the way. Spending money for all these companies and shutting them down and firing thousands of employees and not doing anything with the companies that are left over until its their time to be fired. All microsoft wanted was a monopoly to own it all do to as they want with which is why the blizzard deal was held off in other countries for that fear and once it went through they fired 1900 employees. I never trusted xbox with anything which is why I fear for the smaller companies they have left when those companies did nothing wrong. Its gamepass that's giving those under-preforming numbers. It became a double-edged sword when it comes to making game sales and money.

Hi-Fi Rush got barely any plays, and no one bought the game anywhere, not even when it came to playstation. Ghostwire did not do well, and Evil Within 2 sold less than a million copies. The studio head left. Not saying this is okay, but these are reasons behind why this happened.

Arkane Austin, majority of their devs left during the development of RedFall and we all know how that game turned out. It's sad, but they didn't necessarily buy ZeniMax Bethesda for those studios in particular.

Even with backward compatibility, it is not really true back compatibility either. At least not what is there right now. You still need a web connection to download the game. There is no offline mode. It is better than Nintendos' solution and stuffing it all behind a subscription.

Prey has been on my Steam wishlist since 2021. I`ll buy it when it is under 5€. VALVE gets 1,5€ and Microsoft 3,5€ so they can get some revenue towards Actiblizzard costs. Hopefully developers can keep their jobs.

This kind of fast expansion never works out. Just look at embracer group. The expansion of the gaming industry during the pandemic could never last, but all of this was built on that. AAA model is unsustainable and results in mid games anyway.

Tbh ive pretty much lost trust in xbox personally an been debating on selling my series x since i already have ps5 that i was thinking of making my new home console since i got it for that reason alone makes me less interested in xbox lately theres only 2 reasons i still have it atm one being because of my friends an family 2nd being i have a lot invested into so many games on my acct lol but other then that ive really been considering it at this point an the direction xbox is going with everything. Had to sell my Xbox for gas money a while ago but it’s still infuriating to learn about this. I main PS5 but High fi Rush really impressed me and I was hoping for it to lead to bigger sequels and a possible show. Leadership needs to be shaken up cause Xbox is killing the industry closing good studios.

Stopped using my Xbox like 5 years ago .... Corporate cash grabbers , had high hopes and defended Xbox and Microsoft but damn. They're not for gamers anymore ,at least back then there was somewhat of a balance . These developers are being rushed to create new IP's and for them to get thrown into a "streaming service" of course they're not going to make many sales especially half made games . Xbox struggles to create new IP's and franchise them so they thought buying existing IPs (studios) would help drive sales. Nah it don't work that way , developers are gamers too.. creative thinkers , they want to make their dreams a reality, they just need the time and resources create . Man I used to want to be a game developer and went to school for some game design classes but seeing how things are ran in the corporate eye nope not anymore, is just a damn shame , I feel bad for a lot of people that pour their heart and souls into these games and studios for them to get brushed to the side. Idk I don't know the full business aspect of it . If they think this is a good move for the company by all means whatever. Supposedly it's to free up resources in other departments. "Having over 9 studios is too much to manage" then why purchase them in the first place...idk I'm blabbing. If u made it this far . Hi have a wonderful 😊.

Will be interesting to see if Microsoft is buying studios only to dismantle them and removing a lot of developer jobs, then follow up the next move by starting a lot of micro-personnel big studios for AI game development. Removing game Devs beforehand so they can't complain about AI taking their jobs. Therefore avoiding the Hollywood writer and VFX strikes that demand and put in place better opportunities for workers.

I don’t trust any of the AAA ponzi bankrupt scheme junk honestly. That type of model is unsustainable and frankly results in generally crap games anyway, where graphics and bells and whistles are more important to than design. This is also the fault of gamers for buying into hype and trailers when we should be supporting good, smaller games. Which is actually why I like game pass: lots of good, smaller games. AAA sucks and will eventually ruin anything we hold dear.

Microsoft is a liability on Xbox right now. Its simply a company that will punch you in the face to remind you that they are still a company aiming to make a profit instead of making a short term loss and a long term gain in profit making.. At this point i think Microsoft should just sell some of their gaming IP´s.

From day one i just couldn't understand the hype for RedFall, it always looked mid at best. Alarm bells were ringing from the very first gameplay i saw of it, for me anyway. It just looked meh. Then ended up being rushed out and we got what we got.

Xbox should have focused on indie and AA, instead of those bloated AAA games. I miss the 360 era...

"Can We Trust Xbox Anymore?" Why did you ever trust them to do anything other than save money and put out minimally viable products? I get this is a fanboy channel, but... actually, I don't even get that anymore. This has been the default for the gaming industry for over 15 years at this point.

But larian kept the game by doing early access and charging a fee to keep it self going thought It's existence. We either pay more money. Which game is hate? Or we accept smaller teams and keep the price we've got. It's two hundred million over six years now to make a game. That's one game a generation per studio at the mo. This is why everyone's trying to move to unreal 5 engine to try and cut down costs and time

Microsoft are really good in their own lane, maintaining a robust desktop computer OS alongside mature business productivity software. video games were never their specialty and you can tell because ever since they lost Epic and Bungie, they’ve floundered

Kinda silly question tbh, seeing how 99% of gamers haven't trusted Xbox since 2013 , when they showed us then, wtf they are now. If you Xbox content creators dont mind morphing into a mobile games channel, have at it I guess?

I have lowered my Gamepass Subscription and once I get my new pc in June, I am getting rid of my xbox and all the games. First Sony, now Microsoft. Both can go away.

I stopped buying anything on Xbox ever since they announced multiplatform releases. Looking forward to the PS5 Pro later this year or upgrading my PC.

@@dusermiginte4647 ...and released a number of critically acclaimed games on top of that, and now they're getting Xbox games. And let's not forget the developers who are skipping the Xbox altogether with games like Darkest Dungeon 2, Dave the Diver or even updates like the current generation for Pathfinder: WotR. Only the densest of fanboys will ride and die with Xbox at this point.

Well it’s felt like Phil Spencer has been falling out of favour with Microsoft for a while now. But firing uncle Phil seems like an unpopular move. Let’s make people hate uncle Phill. I expect a phill will be gone by the end of the month.

This constant doom and gloom over Xbox is really annoying, the june 9th showcase will come and everyone will be in high spirits again, then some unexpected negative thing will happen and it's back to "Is Xbox going away?!" so tired of it.

So MS just wanting to kill xbox brand once and for all, so MS as a publisher will be called MS games probably xbox wont be around anymore.

These things happen, and they will happen to Playstation and Nintendo as well. No company is immune to closing some of their studios. It is what it is.

Difference being that microsoft spend billions acquiring these studios. Then made billions last quarter. AND are a 3 trillion dollar business. The work force is cut whilst Management remains. That's the crooked thing about this. Management should be the one paying for bad decisions. Not Bob who now has to go home and break the news he's out a damn job.

@@stevenh.2459 The issue is that many think that microsoft are proconsumer here and are giving them a pass. This is hurting the game industry rather than helping it as games like Hi-Fi Rush would easily have benefited more with better marketing and advertisement. Phil Spencer is basically like the video said, and is nothing more than a wolf in sheep's clothing to appear like he cares for consumer.

What I want to know-is how is it that Microsoft owns so many studios and yet the years go by with very little to show for it. What are people doing all day? They've owned several studios for years that have not produced a single game in that time.

Sorry you feel this way but let’s not forget that with Xbox game pass and a huge variety of amazing titles to choose from, Xbox is truly the best place to play.

What makes this even worse is the hypocrisy. Hi Fi Rush was a shock hit, and they close down Tango. Meanwhile 343 has blown it with Xbox's biggest IP REPEATEDLY, The Initiative has pissed around with Perfect Dark for 6 years and still has f all to show for it, and hell Todd Howard and co cant even put out a next gen update without utterly breaking their games, and these guys all are still in business

its fine the devs will find job the probably draw unemployment and the teams Microsoft shut down they was all doing really poorly the last few years they just cut there weakest links just like they do on ball teams and other sports if your not good enough your gone. Lets be real here.

Xbox is cutting the fat at Bethesda a majority of gamers don’t like the weeby games the other studios make. Good on Xbox for sending a clear message of we don’t need 20 okay mid games we need 10 really good games.

Then they cut the wrong studio to do so considering Tango was one of their most consistent studios. Also, I fail to see how closing Tango down is gonna magically make the other studios pick up the slack that they've had for the last 4 years. I'd be sweating if I was Ninja Theory, Undead Labs, or Double Fine cause those are the type of studios that will likely be on the chopping block if they have another year like 2023.

It sucks, I don't like it, but this IS a business. Fwyh. It's a business. It's gonna happen again, so deal with it. If not, then move on.

"Should they be talking a loss in one area to support these mid level creators" Um, no. That's not how any successful business is run. You don't keep a not profitably thing running just to be a bro.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but quit pretending as though this is a mutually exclusive "L" move by Microsoft when its been the entire industry including the likes of Sony this whole past year doing this. Its also very easy to assume the worst of a companies decision making when you don't have all the facts or the necessary context from which to draw any kind of realistic conclusion, and unless your personally in that exact same position as the people making these decisions don't kid yourself for a second in thinking you'd do any better then them. I am not insinuating its fair that these people lost their jobs or that Microsoft shouldn't be ashamed, but its also not the responsibility of gamers to really care about such things other then the quality of the products for which we are paying for.

Maybe tango was a mistake but the others is good news. Xbox has too many games in development in this shriking Industry. Perfect dark, Overdose, elder scrolls 6, hellblade 2, indiana jones and new stuff will be at the showcase... so keep crying weird people 🍼🍼

Sorry guys but you sound a bit dishonest here. As much as I hate that news, you don’t mention how poorly Tango games seem to have sold the past few years, or how negative you’ve been about Redfall. You’ve even released another video recently telling how bad the game still is. I’m not saying your arguments are wrong but you’re not telling everything here and you shouldn’t be saying how bad you feel about Ariane Austin closing, it’s just a bad look.

Well you guys didn't buy the 💩 arkane released so xbox made no money... What did you expect?
