As a machinist who use to design, repair, and assemble those hydraulic cylinders..... I can tell you that pressure isn't quite the same. In paper and in theory it is, but in reality it is quite different. Mainly because of the compression of the oil is completely different than the oxygen ( in it's gas state, almost liquefied ). The hydraulic cylinder is a cell fill/empty type of system. So basically two sides are under compression, but only 50% of it's density/strength is being used. The oxygen on the other hand. Fully compressed, almost allowing it to reach it's secondary state. 100% compressed. Single cell system. The Hydraulic cylinders secondary compression systems ( hoses, etc. ) would give out before full explosion and make a giant mess. It would only contort form initial contact of the projectile. The oxygen? Also HIGHLY flammable ( most hydraulic fluid is inert, but under extreme pressure can be scorching/boiling hot itself ) and no give, beside the WELDED on cap valve....

The circle on the bowling ball is where it hit the safe door and stopped so fast the plastic outside layer kept going. The center stayed in place as it was making its way through the door and the pressure held it in place. Just imagine how fast the ball had to slow down to pull that ring of plastic out. and the ball still had enough energy to flip the safe twice in the air.

13:35. I think this is a weight block, all bowling balls have this feature at their core. The main purpose of this is to give the bowling ball a non-uniform weight distribution, meaning that the bowling ball will have a greater moment of inertia along one axis of rotation. This is used professionally to increase the rotational energy and consequently the overall kinetic energy of the bowling ball, meaning more pins are knocked down. It could also be caused by the fact that the centre is under some amount of compressive stress and when the outer layers of the bowling ball are placed under radial tensile stress caused by the impact, this creates a rippling effect - the ball bulges around the point of contact because the compressive stress is greatest toward the centre of the bowling ball and therefore resists compression the most in that particular region.

As a kid in 7th and 8th grade middle school, me and my best friend Chris used to hang out in the woods behind the middle every Friday. There were a lot of trails and trees. We took off most Friday afternoons. We would go home for lunch, have a cookout on the gas grill and disappear. (Parent’s worked). We figured out that the only roll call was at the beginning of the second class every school day. No one missed us. For awhile, we tried to make cannons with match heads and other flammables. The most that we ever produced were like the first try here: flames shooting out the front. We never figured out how to control the compression, but the small flame-producing cannons were a lot of fun- especially for an 11 year old. Best years of my life… we built forts and other things, and we never hurt anyone or destroyed anything that wasn’t ours.

How about drilling a shallow hole in a bowling ball just big enough for an Apple tracker chip? Then you can track the cannon shot to find the landing spot. The chip could die from the launch blast and it could die from the impact on landing. Either way the video would be interesting.

👍If you've noticed where the bowling ball received the pressure from the ignition source, the only real damage occurs where the pressure is released around the edge of the ball and the center is left pretty much intact. That would be the best place to put it, epoxy it right in.

@@SSMenace49 Have you watched the previous video on this channel where it was impossible to follow the ball? Without knowing where it's going to land how do you think you could place a person near the landing zone? Look through the channels videos and watch the previous distance shot, it's entertaining.
@tenlittleindians
Жыл бұрын
@@banditeastlick2471 I agree that glueing it away from the ignition source is a good idea for launch but with a round projectile and no rifling, it's likely that ball will rotate during it's travel making the impact side of the ball unpredictable. The main force in play to possibly kill a GPS Apple tracker chip is G forces during launch and again upon landing. Two or three chips implanted around the circumference of the ball away from the powder burn exposed side would increase the odds of at least one of the trackers surviving the landing impact. Two other real world problems exist. One is speed. I don't know if the GPS system can calculate fast enough to track a projectile. The other problem is the possibility of the ball being buried too deep after impact to get a fix on the location. The Tracker tags from Apple are not too expensive so it's worth giving it a try.

Close and lock the safe then scoot back and shoot it with a 50 cal or something else high powered that will penetrate the safe door and the propane cylinder. Once the gas escapes the propane will light and it should cause a massive massive explosion. You could go one step further and seal the safe door with some sealant. Once it’s set drop the the flare in a whole in the top the shoot. The explosion should be more dramatic. I’d pay to see this experiment

Hmmm as usual, I like to speculate before watching. This depends on so many variables...the power of that cannon, I'm assuming you're using a dense 16lb bowling ball, and the strength of that safe. Also the angle of attack. If I knew how much force that cannon has I could make a better guess, but since I don't, I'll guess that it will fail. (I'm a bowler, so I know the density of most bowling balls). Edit: impressive, I didn't think a bowling ball could pierce that steel. It didn't open it, but that was a great hole. On the 3rd shot, that's the core of the bowling ball...it split in half! 😄

I learned something SUPER scientific, your guys chemistry is electric and amazing. The laughter you guys had, that's true friendship. I think the most I get out of this channel is exactly that, friendship. I have friends myself, that I am attached too, for almost 40+ years. I actually live with one, I call him my little brother. What I am getting at, is the camaraderie that you two share. It seems like thats super rare these days. Even as I was growing up, it's super rare. Everytime I see one of these "uncontrollable laughter moments" it brings back memories of my friends and I doing that as well. Just be careful ! Much love and respect to you guys!

Nothing beats the oxogen bottle in the safe. That probably one of the best episodes I’ve even seen. I fell of the back of my chair laughing although I knew what was going to happen because 3000 psi is shit ton of pressure like hydraulics in back hoe excavators type pressures.

Love your videos, nothing fancy, no big setup, but the entertainment value is off the charts. Love the bowling ball canon!! Keep it up, cheers from your northern neighbour. 🇨🇦
Perfect demonstration of thermodynamics. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Seriously, this is the best visual of that, EVER!
I love how you say, "You have to be careful with this. You don't want any electricity or friction." And then as you start lowering the ball into the canon, we can hear the grittiness and scraping as it drags down the sides.😅👍

Sink that cannon in the ground and double up your powder. Measure the distance to the impact site. Fire another shot using a single powder charge. Measure that distance and center a big bullseye target. Then you can play around with weights and measures using science and math and decide which types of bowling balls fly better than others.
You guys scared me last time, happy you're okay. Don't die! 😅
Great 👍🏼 stuff you guys always put a smile on my face with the crazy shot you’ll do. I remember that thing fired that ball over the mountain well big hill it went high . Anyway thumbs up fellas
Edwin, you should use a tshirt or pillow case for wadding around the bowling ball it would get even more power with a tighter shield. or even foam sabot would be good.
Can you put fins on an oxygen tank like a rocket and knock off the nozzle and see how far it would go? Or launch it out of a pipe like a cannon. Itd be so cool to watch it fly off

We have a bowling ball mortar we shoot at my gun club . 100 bucks for the kid that brings the ball back ! We have a hole drilled in it with a 3 foot rope so they can find it and help pull it out ! 900 yards + paper towels and vasoline is what we use to seal it !

What if you shot the bowling ball from the back of the safe? Would it make the door bow enough to pop open?

@tenlittleindians

Edwin.. just an idea. Can you put a propane gas tank in the bottom of a safe. Light a road flare and put it in the top.
That was awesome, y'all really know how to have a blast

Obstructing the muzzle of a cannon with a heavy steel safe and then firing the cannon seemed like a bad idea, but I figured since they published the video, nothing too bad could've happened lol😂
I really dig the cam man and cannon work you guys do
