Without constant electricity no development. The only reason there’s unbridled unemployment in Nigeria is lack of electricity. If electricity was stable, people could care less if petroleum subsidy is removed 100%. With stable electricity there’ll be tranquility in the land, less noise pollution and kids would put their imagination to work, and artisans will be busy in their trades. Crime rates will crash and food storage will increase thereby reducing waste in the value chain. Inflation will decrease. Electricity is life.

Nope, I think he was honest with the problems and what will be the solution if we are being honest, He put it to us as Nigerians, if we really want ELECTRICITY to power manufacturing and produce cheaper products and food for us all or we as NIGERIANS, we want to keep acting CHEAP and continue receiving subsidy from the Government. Not That government should immediately remove all (unless necessary) subsidy but slowing in percentage remove it from us and then the already invested Infrastructure made by the Government can run independently and be self-sufficient they can keep buying gas and continuing maintaining already available infrastructure. Then Government can then focus on investing in new Infrastructure to expand on an already consistence and efficient available infrastructure. (just a thought)

How much are the citizens in those countries paying for kWh. As long as Nigerians insist on electricity subsidy, there will be no electricity . Our governments are not paying the subsidy to these energy companies. Electricity companies will not invest because they know that the subsidy payment will not come from government. Therefore, it is a vicious cycle. Why will gas companies supply gas to our plants if payment is not guaranteed.

Africans need to develop more investments in more SOLAR Energy. They have the abundance in sunshine and the weather. The governments should must invest and promote this for homes in Africa. Education and development is key. We all need to look after mother Earth and our environment. CLIMATE CHANGE IS A PROBLEM and mother NATURE IS SO POWERFUL. WE CAN BE KINDER TO MOTHER EARTH

Considering that power generation, transmission and distribution is virtually a national security issue, the question is should its management be left in the hands of profit motivated organizations? Seems like the subsidy pays for the profits of these organizations. Why not do away with the middle men and keep the profits in house with federal and state governments doing the generation and transmission while the local governments take charge of distribution. Do we even know who benefits from the subsidies because businesses definitely should be paying for what they use for their profit generating activities. Too many hands in the pot, they say destroys the flavor of the soup. Seems like unity is a misplaced and misused word in Nigeria. While there is need to decentralize many aspects of our national life like governing, policing etc, there is need for unity of purpose in other areas like the power sector.

As stupid as it may sound, there are some things left in the hands of a governing authority, unless humans want to return to the stone age. I am a Nigerian, I have had the privilege of working in some government departments that actually functioned. If ideas are not being sabotaged by those who want to work a little and profit more, then government will thrive especially in areas like power generation. The keywords are "Unity of Purpose."

Electricity n Policing should be totally decentralized but regulated by the Fed. govt.... Aren’t Nigeria leaders ashamed of themselves that they travel outside Nigeria and they enjoy quiet life with electricity and they come home and be Buga-in with Mekano generator? No sane investors will leave where there’s light to come to darkness unless a Nigerian leader wants to use him to launder funds abroad. With stable electricity, investors will be begging Nigeria to come because of our young population and their skills. Our leaders dey play games.

Good point, states should take responsibility to monitor and regulate transmission and distribution for Nigerians within their domain. Also, as a nation we must have our own customised addressing system to map every legitimate/legally owned and registered property unit/cell for efficient service delivery. (Like a postcode) Every state must ensure to adopt this format and regulate it. The state governments must ensure the right structures and policies are in place for power distribution and transmission. This is necessary so they (state gov) and distributors can easily track and monitor power resources. Engage technology and skill of data experts to help in this regard. State governments must prosecute n discourage people from building indiscriminately and making shanties. Engage urban n regional planners for future city and district developments to ensure well organised distribution lines are in place that can last for many centuries. This will save cost and help maintenance now and in the future. Our haphazard approach to issues as a people will not help take us far. Our level of organisation, detail, law and order has to be upgraded as a people. God bless Nigeria 🇳🇬

The Nigerian way of solving a problem is to use a non conspicuous problem today (which has the potential to grow into a bigger problem tomorrow) to overshadow the current problem. I am against this whole concept of relying solely on a national grid which requires excess logistics-ing and unnecessary travel for the product to feed the whole nation. It is based on this extra logistic-sing that problems abound...people destroying infrastructure and etc because they haven't been allowed to make money. Nigeria needs to solve its power problems regionally first. The East , Middle belt, the West and the North need to get their shit together individually to solve the power problem...and then whatever region has resolved its power problem, they can sell to other regions or have economic co-operations with other regions...It will foster respect. Let the areas that have these resources concentrate on their core resources and drive regional economic cooperation and foreign investments at the regional level (not nationally) and then excess capacity should be sold nationally to give the regions money to develop themselves. East: gas/wind/rivers/solar/coal (East) Middle belt: dams, solar/ wind / rivers North: solar/Wind and West: Water/solar/ocean Let the regions decide their priority list and what areas of life will start out with 247 power and scale according to regional plans. (1) Manufacturing companies (in economic areas/clusters) (2) Private Businesses(in business zones) (3) Markets (4) Govt institutions, (5) Schools) (6) Residential (Urban higher priority) and Rural (rural lower priority) Till their entire states and region is covered...then they can sell excess capacity. Not this patch patch National plan rubbish we currently have. Let states/regions invest as blocs in power and the more power and stability that is created, the national grid can then be redirected, and/or sold as an export.

You are correct. Producing 5 000mw will never solve Nigerias problems. South Africa which has a quarter of the population of Nigeria produce 60 000mw and that is not enough

Like all problems in Nigeria, it is the Country Structure that is the Problem. Nigeria has over 230 milion population and all subsequent governments has always treated Nigeria as a unitary system . Here in the USA , most Counties has they own power Companies, Yes, I said companies that supply these counties power. Most States and Counties in the USA has their own Police and fire department , sanitation department just to mention but a few serviices. Nigeria should allow the States and counties the Power to raise and collect taxes for revenue and also maitain and regulate its own power Surply. Surpose Nigerai does not have Crude Oil how will Nigeria Survive.

I don't agree with the honourable minister that funding is the problem. The problem is not funding but corruption and lack of accountability. Over 30 dilapidated power plants across the country are poorly maintained not because of funds but corruption and unaccountability. Billions of Naira are frittered away year on year without accountability. Any attempt to continuously increase tariff will not go down well with the suffering masses. The poor has to breathe. The money collected by government from the consumers does not get to the Treasury and unaccounted for. Nobody is standing on the way of PHCN workers from collecting money from consumers. Infact consumers complain of PHCN officials giving them bills for power they did not consume. The honorable minister should get in touch with Prof Nnaji on how to go about power supply in Nigeria and the recent success story of Prof Nnaji in Abia. Government should hands off power supply. I also don't agree with the honourable Minister that technical know how is not an issue. Hand over the Nigerian power sector today to indians or Chinese engineers to run our power sector and it will bounce back in less than two years. Power supply is not rhetorics but technical and leadership issue
