MTX. Is a very underrated car audio company. They’ve always made great equipment. I’ve had a lot of it over the years. I still have my first gen Blue Thunder 12’s. That was obviously after I was gone from there. Just about anything was $75, so I don't see how they made any money doing that. IIRC, a radio, amp, and four speakers was $149.95 and there is not enough margin there to justify it, especially on some products - there were some CD players (Pioneer was really bad like that when on sale) we sold below cost. Only real benefit would have been not taking as many returns and maybe the additional opportunity to upsell and sell accessories, like harnesses and cables. But, if the sales counselor was doing his or her job, that should have already been done. I guess that's why they are no more.

The one thing about buying a quality amplifier all through the 90’s… Is that they ALL were underrated on the specifications. MTX, Rockford Fosgate, PPI, JL Audio. It was almost like a gentleman’s game of sandbagging the power output.

Went to my audio place which also did automotive stuff and my guy slid a pair of MTX co-ax at me... someone had exchanged 'em because no highs on one side. They fixed the tweeter wire and they'd been hanging around, try these he said. I tried, I liked... good stuff. Thanks as always, I love your detailed and insightful reviews. Regards,

The manager upgraded me to the upper end 1600 watt prefab enclosure/subs and a Terminator TN250 amp (tested by a buddy of mine at his shop at 568 watts) and i paid around $369 when all was said and done. I gave the amp to my nephew but the subs are still hitting hard in 2023. MTX was badass back in the day...Can't attest to their quality now, but I'd say they still have decent stuff (if I had to guess).

My first foray into real quality car audio was back in 83. Just purchased my Loaded 1983 Toyota SR5 4x4 long bed pickup. There was a new stereo shop in town (San Diego) called Dow Sound Stereo. I saved up a bundle that summer and purchased a Concord PL-515 (very best unit of the day) made in the U.S. Dolby B&C noise reduction Cassette deck with a great tuner and RCA outputs. I also purchased a Linear Power 100x100 watt amplifier which was basically an 8”x12”x2.5" (10x12x2.5 to the fins) inch 15 pound brushed aluminum amp with 2” heat sinks on either side. I purchased (Top of the line in the day) Phillips (Phillips Europe) 8inch woofers, paired with a 3” dome mid and the classic Phillips soft dome tweeters and home-made x-over’s from a design recommendation from the tech’s over at the local ADS speaker shop where we bought all the Phillips drivers). PC’s were not around yet and there was no internet to peruse for the latest design software, products or devices. All in all, after hooking that system up, was the talk of the town. OMG, it flat out stomped on everything, loud, SQ, nothing like it in my neighborhood - anywhere, for a little while anyway. I was hooked on Hi-fi from that moment on!

I had one of these amps. Little thing would get so hot. Lol but then again. This was late 90’s early 2000’s. And 3/4 turned gain was LIFE!

You know you actually should want a 60% plus of viewers who are not subscribed. The reason is simple, it means YT is promoting your video to people who are not subscribed. That's how your audience grows.

Still have one of these Blue Thunder amps, used to be one of my favorite. I used this amp with a MTX Tri Thunder triple 10” sub box. It was sweet for back in the day, and I regretted swapping it out for a pair of 12” Hyphonics Zeus subs. Always been a huge triple 10” fan ever since.

I had a sponsorship with circuit city. I built their custom boxes. I used to go to show. Ended up with 8 MTX btl 12s in a escort with JBL mids and highs. As a bass junkie the sponsorship helped feed the addiction lmao...

Nice work! Old school amplifier testing is a niche viewership IMHO. I like seeing these types of videos. I bet that amp sounds buttery vs Class D or digital amps. Heat is fine on these as long as it gets dissipated properly (and is mounted where it gets some airflow).

Had too watch this because I just picked up a blue thunder pro504 and only paid $60 for it and actually it's pretty nice condition. Everytime I pick up an old 90s or early 2000s amp I always go through your channel to see if you've covered it at some point and 95% of the time you don't let me down. 😊

I remember being jealous of my older cousin he was 1 year older than me and got a set of mtx blue thunder 12s and a Rockford punch 75 amp for his Christmas present when he was 16 ...drove a little single cab Mazda mini truck and man did it pound the ground ....I mean loud ....he knew how much I liked them and bought me a set of 8in blue thunder truck boxes and a punch 45 for my graduation present when I was 18 ...I drove a 71 c10 and had a gas tank behind the seat so the truck boxes fit perfectly under each side of the bench seat....I really appreciated him doing that ....wish I had kept them ...but let them go with the truck....which I never should have sold either

The Boss is back !! I sold Blue Thunder speakers back in 1988-1992 We had some of there amplifiers The Red Terminator Amplifiers and the Red Terminator 2 ohm woofers The Blue Thunder was MTX attempt to go after the high end market The Blue Thunder Woofers had a rubber surround . The Blue Thunder had tighter bass .They didn’t have the boom the Terminators had Road Thunder was MTX entry level line. They weren’t bad .They were cost effective

Videos on the old school stuff are awesome. It’s what got me interested in your channel, and your videos are really what got me back into car audio after about a 15 year break. I personally now prefer watching tests on the new stuff, that’s what’s available to buy, but I’m curious why you don’t test any big amps. Power supply won’t keep up maybe?
