Can This $100 HDMI Cable Really Upscale HD to 4K? | mCable Cinema Review
Фильм және анимация
This $100 HDMI cable from Marseille, the mCable Cinema Edition, claims to upscale 1080p to a “stunning 4K Hollywood movie experience” with just the processors in the cable. Let’s see how it holds up to my tests.

Love that you keep it honest and real. It can be tough to let down someone who's leaning on you with their product but you gain my respect for being real with your audience.
Dude, I just bought this cable based on your video. I actually saw significant improvement of the Halloween clip......
They're watching FORBIDDEN PLANET in that scene. In another scene, they do watch THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD. But in that scene it's FORBIDDEN PLANET.
I would love to see a comparison with the 4k disk. With and without the cable
UHD Blu-ray players and UHD TVs both have all the proper image processing to upscale and process lower resolution content. No fancy cable with outrageous claims are needed. LG TVs can capture a single frame and save them on a usb stick. It's good for comparing content if you need to do this type of thing in the future.

Rolled the dice on this mcable cinema edition and it didn't do anything for the regular (not Full 1080) DVD, but when I put in a Blu-ray DVD into my 4K LG player with the right FPS, it cranked it up to like 8K OLED! My Samsung QLED can enhance way beyond 4K (at least that's what I'm seeing). Sitting here trying to convince you, I read every word on the box (got the mcable last night), and there is a point I glossed over doing my research that stood out like the Empire State building reading again last night. The mcable is endorsed by Technicolor. If what people are saying about it not working were true, then a case, a law suit, could be made _against_ *Technicolor.* I agree with you about this part, the upscaling capabilities of the TV and or Blu-ray players, I had 4 of the to do 3D (on 2D sets) before I gave one away, but the final product from Blu-ray on both 4K tvs is 4k instead of 1080. It's so exciting to live in this time.
Man great content started watching your channel as a video game collector. There are a ton of parallels between both hobbies!
If this hdmi is anything like the gaming edition, then you should see a bigger difference on 480p content being taken upto 1080p and your TV taking the 1080p input the rest of the way to a 2160 upscale picture. So the results will depend on the content and combined with the scaler in your set. But am keen on this cable as I still have a dedicated dvd player which runs my region 1 collection in the UK so am very interested to see your upcoming dvd results. That could be a deal breaker for me. Many thanks
Thanks for review!👍 I will get this and used it on my JVC 4k projector with female extensions.
I've got a licensed re-branded version of the same cable, and in my opinion its best when up-scaling SD content to 1080p, works very well with animation. The processing in the cable is apparently able to target only the edges of an image during each frame instead of applying processing to every pixel in the entire image.

Looking at your video review, I don't think the cable was actually on. Or maybe you weren't using it properly... I have the gaming edition and it works pretty well for me, but only if you give it as close to a proper, unmodified signal as you can. In order for these scalers to work there can't be any scaling done by your bluray player, Motion interpolation can also cause issues, but only in certain situations (NTSC-PAL content conversion, etc). Did you make sure to set your BluRay player to output to 1080p? Also did you ever try it with a standard DVD? (make sure it's set to 480p) I couldn't find any other videos on your channel talking about the mCable cinema. I am thinking about getting a cinema cable for myself, but I can't find any decent reviews (other than LTT). Sometimes the mCable will turn it's self off and go to a passthrough mode if it doesn't get a signal it likes. I like to check with the info button on my tv to see what resolution it's at to see if the mCable is active. If it's not outputting at 4k, than it's not on.
To be fair I'd be more interested in how an upscaled dvd would look in 4k. I don't think blu Ray would look much different. Any chance you could test that please? Also, did you disable any built in upscaler and image processing on your player and TV when testing?

Thanks for the video
I have found for my projector I need a Fiber Optic hdmi because I have a 33 foot run the regular HDMI I was using wasn’t transferring HDR at that length. Try the mCable on the projector..
I would love to have a true side by side comparison rather than standard first mCable later.
I believe they work only for retro consoles to HDTVs. As soon as I saw the title I knew it won't work. Players and TVs have good upscalers.
Snake Oil in 3, 2, 1....A proper upconvert will be done in the TV. Wanna make a difference upgrade your power cables! Final note get a decent HDMI cable but don't go overboard. Scale up accordingly. Love my Audioquest cables but within reason and budget.
you have to set ur tv resolution to match the source resolution. so if ur playing a 1080p blu ray the tv must be set to 1080p in order for mcable to upscale

I've heard of people having good results with this cable, especially when using it on old, hdmi modded consoles like the N64 or Super Nintendo. Having said that, I'm not sure it's worth 100 bucks.
What is the best HDMI cable for 4K UHD movies?
To help me achieve the best overall picture, I would use it along with my 4k t.v. & 4k player.
Yeah, upscaling can certainly help certain videos in certain situations look better, but at the end of the day it's simply better to have an actual properly mastered high quality image.
Their gaming cable & mClassic is great!
Be interesting to see if it makes dvd picture quality as I've over 5000 dvds that I have no interest in upgrading but I still watch
What’s the best cable for 4K content?
just curious, what your setup looks like? Tv and blu ray player?
What 4k player do you have? Are the fiber optic HDMI cables any good?
Aside from the cable, which I suspect is just a way to separate suckers from their money, just like they do with monster cable HDMI cables in general. As for 4K discs, I think one really needs a very high end system to make it worth upgrading titles you have on Blu Ray.
Don't all 4k tvs have like quad-core processors or something? For upscaling I mean

I think a new nvidia shield pro with its AI upscaling would be a great idea for review. I'm tempted to buy one myself as I have the older model.
1.4??? LOL 2.1 is what you need these days
Did you switch to 24p in your screen settings on your Blu-ray player? It doesn't upscale to 4K unless it's set to 24p. I have this cable and I definitely notice a hell of a difference. I only paid $30 for mine. Would I pay $100? Heck no.
If you look at the wall on the right as they walk out you see a difference....also the stone wall at the end of the scene where they are walking
Great Video.. . powered cables are useful for long distance runs (say 10 meters or more) but the market is a minefield and it's confusing as hell to choose a good quality long cable just for Blu Ray let alone 4K with its higher demands on cabling suppliers are gearing up to repeat the whole sh+tshow again......Good luck everyone.....
I wondered if it would matter if you just had a regular led tv?
Are the "standard" and Marseille cable both HDMI Ultra High Speed certified? What kind of TV and TV settings are you using?
mCable is only good for old console games since they don't have any anti aliesing.
I won't be buying the M Cable! Great video!!
I would suggest Blue Jeans Cable. Good cables for the price without the BS
What happens if you watch a 4k disc on an otherwise 1080p system?
The review I needed to see, I thought the mClassic and mCable were all hype. Thank you.

I'm going with Marseille on this one. I have a Seiki upscaling cable that has the Marseille VTV-1222 chip and that works, I've had it for about a year and now after watching 3 of these reviews I'm considering going back to the drawing board and running an unbelievable amount of tests with my two different 4k tvs and 6 players, at least 3 of them are 4K upscaling; well, when I first got it I remembered it worked. So, Marseille, this cinema edition cable, based on price difference alone ($36 to $140) compared to their standard mCable must be the VTV- *1224* microchip. Either Randy here is right, or Marseille, and if Randy (I dunno his name) is right then Marseille continually upgrading a product that doesn't work deserves all of our money as the world's greastest shucksters. It's all about logic, isn't it? Just noticed a comment below yours (3 months ago) from cmoneytheman "I know it works...Seiki fixes jags and upscales to 4k."
So then what 4k cable do you recommend

There are two types of HDMI cables - you need High Capacity HDMI 2.1 cable for watching 4K content, otherwise it will be outputted in 1080p - but most of the packaging on cables will tell you in bold print that it's suitable for 4K - if you're only rockin' a standard bluray player then virtually any HDMI cable will do
@DannyoRaiden

@@jamied1579 you dont understand the difference. If you choice only for bluray 1080 buy one of the best and change cable to highgrade. I do t know how to disable built in upscslers on a tv to really see a difference kinda sucks this the $100 converter dosent recognize or process HDR correctly . Then I might as well put the $100 bucks towards a 4k disc player for that price so I guess it's really only to help standard Blu Ray players and can used on non HDR gaming consoles

A standard mCable has a vtv-1222 chip and costs $36. This is $140 and therefore must have there vtv-1224. 1.4 edition (?). I paid $36 for a Seiki cable that utilizes the Marseille vtv-1222 chip (technology). My players are all 4k upscaling, and I also have the Samsung QLED, it's suppposed to upscale to 4k. Thing with my tv, it won't tell me what the resolution is unless I use an outside source. I need to do a lot of experimenting. Hope that helps.
I use HDMI-cables from Nordost & Supra, good enough for me.
Thanks man. Appreciate the review. Makes me wonder what is the point of having progressive Upscaling on ur machine? Lol
wish the comparisons were side by side. Other than that, like the video.
The reason why it doesn’t display HDR when upscaling from 1080p to 4K with it is because this cable was made in 2017 and 4K Blu-ray Discs started making its way into the market in 2016. HDR on the mCable didn’t exist back then. It only existed on 4K Blu-ray’s at the time. I think an mCable certainly wasn’t built for that because they didn’t process the fake HDR color palette into the cable.
I think if yer watching a disc that isn’t already ultra high quality in the first place it will do it’s job.
The gaming version works like a charm, can't wait to give this one a try. 😃

It doesn't make a difference unlike the Gaming version.
There is definitely something to be said about 4k players' upscaling ability - a bluray looks noticeably better played on a 4k player than a standard bluray player - to the point i no longer use standard bluray players at all. it' doesn't make a 1080p image the same as a 4k image - it's not meant to, but it's definitely an improvement. I couldn't really say what differnce it makes with SD/DVDs because I never watch them any longer. I'm a total High-Def snob. I couldn't make out any difference with the cable you're trying. The kids in the Halloween scene are watching Forbidden Planet, by the way..... ;)

I notice a bit better color and contrast. Blacks look a bit more inky on the school sign and the kids comic book. Not a huge difference though.
Of course it won't look as good as a 4K blu ray and it doesn't state it does, it is a upscaler and works better then most TV's or blu ray players do. It helps take a load off of your TV or blu ray player or if your device doesn't upscale. The gaming version I have will replace any normal HDMI cable I'd ever use for gaming for the foreseeable future. Best investment (cable wise) I ever made. 😁

I have a seiki too, and didn't know if it was the seiki upscaling to 4K or my tvs and or the players 3D 4K upscalers. I've had it for a year now, and all I remember is how blown away I was when I hooked it up. My 75" QLED has a much better picture than my Vizio 75" 4k, but both show the same resolution. "Fixes jags" and adds brightness/contrast, enhances color, I'm sure Marseille knows what the hell they're doing. Thanks for the breath of common sense air. Thanks for reminding me of how great Seiki is - VTV-1222 chip and thanks for helping me spend $100 in confidence for this mCable cinema edition.
The mcables do look better there is a difference it's a small difference but noticeable difference if you're looking at a still image its overall a little bit sharper and the colors are slightly better not a huge difference but it is a difference and it's kind of worth the money you can get a good deal on one of those cables
So with the mCable, I don't need to buy a 4k UHD player and 4k UHD discs? Really? Hard to believe.

I'm not going to spend $100 for an HDMI cable, when they are other 4k HDMI cables from other brands out there for a cheaper price
An HDMI fabel transfers digital signals, so expensive cables do not make sense. It does make sense for greater distances to prevent signal degradation. I would prefer my equipment to do the upscaling not a cable. More expensive analogue cables can make sense.
Please, cable can not upgrade digital information.
Its a digital cable, you either get an image or not. The only thing to note is what version cable it is, dont waste money on cables people.
I would probably have chosen a better quality movie instead of using one that's already been remastered and upscaled.
Anyone who believes the pictures on the back are a true representation of what to expect are certainly naive.
For me the HDR beats anything!
Yes it's true. The 4k Blu-ray is going to look slightly better but you didn't show the viewers how to properly set this up to get the 4k upscale on standard Blu-ray and dvd. I have this product and it does what it supposed to do if you follow these simple directions. 1: plug in the usb to your TV. 2: Plug in the hdmi marked source to your Blu-ray player. 3: Plug in the hdmi marked TV to your TV. Power on your Blu-ray player. Go to settings under resolution settings select 1080p. Then turn on 24p. Follow these Simple instructions and you'll get it to work properly. Thank you.

In order for the cable to work properly your DVD or Blu-ray player resolution has to set at 1080p and 24p turned on.
To be honest I could not see any difference in any of them. but I guess that is down to the camera you filmed it with and we could not see what you could. But the whole idea of such a cable is totally useless especially when most of the players and the TV's we already have are quite capable of upscaling anyway. I would not even bother doing the test to see if it can upscale a DVD to HD. The Blu Ray player I brought 8 years ago can do that very well already and that Sony Blu Ray player I brought was a cheap one and cost 40 bucks less than this cable LOL. For a hundred bucks you might just as well save up another 50 to 80 bucks and get a 4K Blu Ray player and it will upscale your regular Blu Ray's to 4K. This cable in all honesty is a complete rip off.
This is for 480p/720p/DVD. Not 1080p HD.

Put Horizon Zero Dawn on with a 18gbs cable and then use Belkin's 48gbs cable and it will become immediately noticeable. You will see information drawn to the screen faster, so there is less blur. If you pivot your character around, you see exactly what I speak of. Even the information on the console menu will come up on the screen faster. For 4k movies I noticed less difference with the exception of slightly better color saturation.
