Hi. I couldn’t pass without saying thank you as an ARMY. 😆 You really understand the situation we, Korean, face when studying English. As someone has mentioned above, BTS members have put a lot of effort to studying English. I was shocked when I saw them speaking English in L. A. concert this month. Anyways, I should learn English more and hard so I hit the like and subscription on your channel. You are my new English 쌤. Also, please keep eyes on BTS till they all get 5 points from you. 😆
It's an enjoyable english lesson because non native speakers are struggling every day to reach such a good top where we can communicate with others without fearing some mistakes, I'm really proud of my journey so far, thanks to your videos and funny ways to teach us all, thank you, Vanessa.

@@mariusa.5863 You're missing a very important point here. When learning English or any other language, most people just want to understand the language and be understood. The only way to achieve that perfect native accent is if they use methods and tips to sound more native and really focus on that. Just cause someone moved to the US, it doesn't mean they're going to change their accent to sound more native American. So it doesn't make sense your statement about non-native English speakers. We know there are people living in the US for more than 20 years and many of them still have thick accents. I watched the whole interview and in my opinion Gisele's English is great . Even though I think 4 is a very good grade, I don't think her accent should be used as the reason she didn't get a 5. Is that just cause she doesn't bother to sound more American ? Please, most people don't bother at all as long as they're being understood. On the other hand, when you move to another country as a child it is most likely that you're going to grow up as native speaker. As a matter of fact, the Russian girl speaks Russian with an English accent, so I guess Russian isn't her native language.
Analyzing the mistakes non-native speakers make while speaking is so useful, helping learners to better notice the mistakes. I hope to see more videos like this one, analyzing the speech of non-native speakers of the English language. Thanks!
What a relief! So many celebrities speak and don't shy the way they do it, I've never been thinking about it seriously before! ❤ Please, may we have part 2 soon?

I'm completely agree. It's much easier for the people, who grew up under the native speakers to learn a language and speak without accent. I think Heidi Klum deserved 5 points. Her english is almost perfect. She moved to the USA in the age of 20. In one interview she sad she could just say "hello, my name is Heidi" at that time. She cannot be compared with Maria Sharapova, who has been living in America since very young age.

I watched and listen to the celebrities and noted that they speak very fast. It will take time to understand them. You are amazing teacher Vanessa
I love your videos, you’re so funny and have a good sense of humor. I try to mimic your pronunciation all the time but I fail miserably . Anyways, I have a comment regarding something that you’ve mentioned earlier in the clip. You said it’s easy for you as a native speaker to understand others even if the words are not pronounced correctly. Then you wondered what about the non native speakers. Well, tbh with you, I, as a non native speaker, see it the other way around. Non native speakers will understand each other pretty easy than the native ones. I’ll give you an example, my son was at a store and a either Hispanic or Chinese lady was asking the store clerk about popcorn. She pronounced it as bobcorn instead of popcorn. The clerk had a real hard time understanding her. My son, who happens to be standing right next to her, got the meaning behind it so easily and told the clerk the word with the right pronunciation. Another example when I speak sometimes my words sound differently and people won’t understand me clearly, but my kids get it immediately. Although my kids were raised here in the us since they were babies and although they’re fluent in English, but they understand distorted English better than the native ones. Hope that answer your question.

Amazing! But Sharapova was not a right person to compare with. She has been living in America from her childhood. Kids below 10 years immediately replace their native language with other one.

Thank you so much Vanessa! My homework for this lesson is: "These famous persons won't teach me English because they are really busy and their English level isn't perfect in common case. Also your tips could help me with this deal. But I need someone for conversation and who knows English better than me (my level = 0 - 1 in scale to 5). Number 5 divided by 1 is 5. So 5 steps isn't a big "stair" and I will be try".

hi Vanessa! 🙋 excellent video, as always... I was born, grew up , and lived in Mexico up until I was 40, so needless to say I spoke mostly Spanish all those yrs. I was born right across the border from the US, and growing up, I guess the closeness to this country, listening to music and watching TV in English, made the language quite familiar, however, I rarely had the opportunity to PRACTICE English since, even when I'd crossed the border into the US, pretty much everybody would speak Spanish, basically there was no need. Now, when I moved permanently to the US a little over 13 yrs ago, I started meeting native English speakers, and that's when I actually started practicing what I'd learned since I was a kid... I've never had any communication problems, but I'm well aware that I probably have an accent (whether subtle or not so subtle, I don't know 🤔) though nothing compared to Salma Hayek's or let's say, Sofía Vergara's 😬 which nobody seems to care because, of course, they're stunning! why would anyone? 😆 ... I'm sure they probably don't care about what people think, but watching this video made me think that maybe I don't sound THAT bad after all 🤣😂... and I apologize for any grammar/writing mistakes 😏... greetings from SoCal! ✌️😜

In many languages B and V are the same letter. At the beginning of a word, the pronunciation would usually be a B, while within or at the end of the word, it would rather be a V. This might explain the problems mentioned in the video.
