Suggestion for a new series: grab together people from the same language family (ex. Latin, Germanic, Slavic, Turkic, …), then they try to form an intelligibility continuum (the second can understand the first, the third understands the second and so on), then the first says a sentence in their language, the second has to reproduce the sentence in their own language and it goes like that. In the end we see if the sentence stays the same 😵‍💫

I teach Spanish in Canada and don’t feel so bad now that a native speaker also has trouble placing different speakers. I can almost always identify a speaker from Spain, Cuba, Dominican, PR, Argentina as those countries have distinct sounds but a lot of Latin America is hard to nail down. ❤.

Not everybody has the ability to place accents of their own native language. It has to do with a person being naturally drawn to pay atttention to those things. By the way, since you mention you are in Canada, as a non-native English speaker I have always thought that Canadian and American accents sounded the same unti; one day I notice the way Canadians (I guess it's only in some areas) pronounce the "ou" in words like "out", "about", etc. Since then I'm kind of obsessed to spot it and avery time I'm watching a video of a youtuber I didn't know before and I spot that specific "ou" sound I start checking if they're Canadian haha Love guessing accents, although I still have a lot to learn about accents in the English language (I still get confuse with some Australian accents and assume they're British, even though I've been living in the UK for almost a decade).

I’m from Mexico and familiar with Colombian, Panamanian and, of course, Mexican accent. In my opinion, non of the three girls has the typical accent you’d expect from their countries of origin. The Colombian girl probably is from Bogotá, where the accent is neutral and elegant, but not as charming as that from Medellín or the coastal areas, for example. The Mexican girl’s accent belongs to an educated person from Central Mexico. I simply couldn’t place the Panamanian girl’s accent, none of the Panamanians I’ve met in my life sound like her.

Happy to see my flag here!! altough the girl doesn't sound Panamanian at all :( We don´t even know what a salteña is, she sounds Mexican! maybe her parents are the ones that are Panamanian, but nice to see she knows about Panamá

Latinas come in all sizes, colors, shapes, if you want a girl blonder than a Scandinavian girl you can find her in Argentina, if you want a beautiful girl with perfect curves then Dominican Republic, if you want fun Mexico or Colombia, Latinas are perfect but!!! Visit Florida and you will find all Spanish speaking nationalities, it's heaven bro, some of them are players, some are faithful, just watch out, take care of your feelings and your wallet :)
