Can the Police Search My Cell Phone?

Cody Warner, an experienced NYC criminal defense attorney, discusses the circumstances when the police can search a person's cell phone for evidence of criminal behavior.
➡️ Yes, the police can seize your phone as evidence, and are legally allowed to search the data it if they have search warrant, or if you provide consent.
➡️ No, you are not required to provide consent to search your phone. In fact, it is not advised to consent to any search without a warrant.
📌 Some data from your phone can be supplied by your cellular phone carrier to law enforcement. However, cell site location data and other potentially sensitive information requires a warrant.
