In BVR tests in Customs Battles (Rocky Cannon/Op Vietnam), I've been able to make longer range shots with the Aim 7 using the F-14 B, 73km, compared to the R-77s. The target is the surveillance plane, and the R-77s will self-detonate on identical shots (anything over 70km). Granted, the surveillance planes fly low.

Respectfully, worst F-14 pilot I've ever seen. Dude was just spamming phoenixes off and holding S in the dogfight. Hell no. If he actually used the tomcat and it's weaponry correctly, this would've ended different.

The f14 is pretty bad even in BVR against these fighters as it's not as fast nor pull enough at high speeds. The only way to win against them is if they are room temp i q. F-15A makes a quick work out of the 14B with phoenixes

@@mamo4731 Not of you play it correctly. 1st, it’s really fast and since it’s a swing wing it can easily pull hard at those speeds and hold it extremely well. 2nd, the F-15A gets outclassed in BVR and the the dogfight if you fight your own way. By getting down low and getting those rate speeds or by taking the vertical fight at altitude you’ll win most engagements by simply maintaining what what works. People forget the F-14 is somewhat of a heavier F-16, but the trade off is that you can do both 1 and 2 circle fights really well. I Like to think of it like this: F-16 (any): 2 circle fights-10/10 1 circle fights- 3/10 F-14B: 2 circle fights-8.5/10 1 circle fights 8/10 (no but actually not many people know but I’ve had the tomcat can do some flanker stuff with full real controls, it’s absurd.)

Can you confirm he was maintaining TWS lock when firing the Phoenixes? They didn’t seem to track as well as they usually do at all. I don’t really agree with the way he was flying that F-14, could have done a better job other than just firing all the Phoenixes at once.

I think the Sinai map would have been a better demo for these Phoenix missiles. The excel at 40+ mile ranges as you can launch 1 or 2 early at around 50 miles and instantly go into a crank almost assuring that a recommit at 35-40 miles will lead to a high PK shot.

I hate when people call the flanker a "bad dogfighter" most of the time those people are going into a 2 circle rate fight which is not how to dogfight in a flanker. The 1 circle makes the flanker a crazy dogfighter especially with full real controls.

a good f14 pilot can effectively dogfight damn near any plane in game and come out on top with the know how. no disrespect to the guy demoing the f14 but he doesnt seem very experienced with the airframe or its weapon/ radar set

I did a BVR fight against an F16 with Derby's in the F14B. The phoenixes smoked him. I was able to launch 40-45 mile shots and he wasn't even able acquire me on radar. Even when he was cold the first few phoenixes hit him when he was about 20miles away and cold. All I had to do was crack in a certain direction and was completely fine. If they made the maps bigger, reduce the player count and gave the F14B aim9ms. The tomcat can be put at top tier or maybe a step below it.

Yes and no. The U.S is fine, and doesn't suffer. But I do think Russian mains complain a little too much. The Su-27SM is a great jet. Just because it cannot beat a gripen in a 1v1 which never happens doesn't mean it's bad.

@@AeroTurtleit is bad , worse in bvr and wvr , it loses to f16/15/20 , m2k/m4a/gripen in a 1v1 , looses to anything with AMRAAMs at both bvr and wvr unless it’s a tornado/harrier. Look at sim win rates for Su27sm , 30+ matches and not a single win.

I would have agreed with you if gaijin nerfed multipath with the addition of r27er but nah , u we’re able to counter r27 by flying at 80m , can’t dodge fox3s anymore , back then Russia was better at bvr n nato was better at wvr now nato is better at bvr and wvr

ppl be calling the r77 bad bc it doesnt have as good bvr capabiltys as other jets, but when do ppl actualy do bvr in war thunder, ive been playing the new update and havent encountered a whole lot of bvr, everyone js uses them as close range missles, and the r77 is better than aim120 in close range, imo both are good in their own ways

I have an experiment I’d love to see you try out. In several of Growling Sidewinder’s F14 videos he’s had Jester eject unexpectedly during a dogfight and it’s always made me wonder if the rocket from the ejection seat gives off a proper IR signature. Care to see if the forbidden countermeasure works against IR missiles? Probably wouldn’t help something as hot as the F14 but something cooler perhaps?)

@Lulzwhat the r73 is pretty easy to flare. Tvc is great but if you pop flares and tighten the separation the missile can't track. Also it's pretty easy to outmaneuver in the situations where tvc is actually helpful

TKF-90 would be nice and then a few updates later the actual Eurofighter

The SU-27SM is the worst bc it has same power as Su-27 but is heavier. it's better than the MiG-29SMT but not f16, grippen. both engery retention and pull/aoa on slow speeds

Also I’m with the people that rather take the ICE over the flanker 😂 At least in sim battles that F18 radar mops the floor with the Su27’s. On a map like this though I’d just fly home with my F4 :|

Aim 54 was terrible in real life. Tornado crews said they knew when the Aim 54 was been launched and it was never going to be a threat unlike the Aim 7. Aim 54 would be lucky if it could kill a transport jet about its only chance.
