Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We don't make these videos often.
We have been using Meguiar's DMC microfiber pads during our compounding stage for nearly a decade now. With their updated microfiber pad design, the new Rupes microfiber pads can equal (and even surpassed) the DMC pads to become our new favorite in the shop!

    I like the idea, but honestly don't know what it would really show, particularly since there are so many variables of paint types, paint conditions, etc, etc. Both the compounding pads (blue and yellow) are going to show "full correction", with different haze levels that will be hard to show on camera. As soon as I do that, I'd have a bunch of people chiming in: "yeah, but you didn't do it on "x" type of paint, or "y" type of defects.

    Hi Todd, Great videos and really enjoying the channel. I have a couple GM vehicles to do paint correction on both with very light defects (2018 black paint, 2022 grey paint). I understand this clearcoat and paint is relatively soft. You're recommending Rupes yellow foam and maybe white foam ultra fine for finishing on these applications? Could a yellow or white Rupes wool pad work well also if necessary? Thanks

  • @Esotericdetail

    @Esotericdetail

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you! As always, you won't know the exact process until you can do some test sections on the vehicles. The black paint in particular will definitely take a lesser aggressive approach, particularly on finishing. Chances are, foam will be the only way to properly finish that black paint in particular.

  • @Esotericdetail

    @Esotericdetail

    Жыл бұрын

    They stay a bit cooler, but if you're using the MF pads correctly, you're not worried about getting up to the levels of temperatures that it's an issue. So for us, running "cool" doesn't make any difference in what we do, or how we evaluate them. It's all about how well they work new, how well they work after several months, what kind of finish they can achieve, and how consistent they are across all paint types.

Part of my issue with these is while I have all Rupea pada currently, that's because they offer them in all sizes. I run 5", 3", and 2" pads. It sort of sucks thet don't offer their microfiber in the 2" size...while other brands do.

    I'd switch them out after every panel. And I recommend air blowing them out with air even during each section not just after, no more haze. I just hope that the fibres in the centre don't fray and same for the outside edge of the pads which when they do they expose that sharp edge of white material under the microfibre which some competitors wool and microfibre pads do and can scour paint. I'd like microfibre to be fully wrapped around the sides of the pad like a foam pad is so the sharp edges are covered. The centre hole is good but for better cooling some 6-8mm holes around the centre hole like the Americana foam pads, I found that there's heat still building up one to two inches away from the centre hole.

    The only one in question would be the white finishing mf pad. If you need anything more aggressive than a yellow polishing pad, then you're reaching for either the yellow or blue microfiber pads...not anything from the foam lineup. But if you're doing a one-step or a finish polishing job, you'd need to do test sections with a yellow rupes foam and compare to the white microfiber to see what's going to give you the better results you're looking for.

    Foam pads for us will be limited to polishing (one-step for instance), or for finishing. If we need something more aggressive than a polishing pad, then we are using a compounding pad like the yellow one in this lineup, then following that up with a polishing / finishing foam pad. As for the new white MF pads, we need to play with them some more to see if it would be a preferred pad for one-steps, or if we stay with their yellow polishing pad.

    Depends on a lot of factors, really. When doing a true multi-step correction though, it typically starts at about 8 hours and goes up from there. For more detailed information, please check out our new ONLINE training program at: www.esotericdetail.com/education

    6:17 these pads have holes for bolt. back-plate has velcro which will scratch clear, when pad gets pressed that much. especially when run over contour.

    A foam pad with a hole in it is less dense, which means it would have a far greater chance of this happening. Having used open-holed Rupes pads and polishers for a decade now, I have never once had it happen, or heard of it happening. Therefore...it's a non-issue.

    You have us confused with others who use what they sell, whereas we sell what we use...huge difference. Also, we are first and foremost a very busy and successful detailing business which gives us a lot of opportunity to test and evaluate a lot of products and techniques, and to determine what gives us the best and most consistent results. People ship their cars in from all over the country specifically for these results. So then, once we establish what works best for us with the most consistent results, we then see if we can offer them to the detailing community.
