The fibres of the microfibre spreads the coating better and is more economical I chop up new microfibre rags into strips and I’m good to go with a applicator block

Personally, I never liked the foam blocks and always wondered why everybody used them which led me to the conclusion of well that's just the way they've been taught and it's what usually comes in kits, plus it's much less absorbent than a microfiber block with a sponge inside... but I skipped right to the little microfiber applicator blocks cuz I could buy them in bulk much cheaper and they were much easier and quicker to use to lay down a coating, so it was a win from all aspects. A lot of people found it weird back then and some thought it was just plain wrong. Glad more people are catching up, accepting that there's more than one way to skin a cat and that they're being marketed a bit more now. I LOVE the Autofiber "saver" applicators with the lining inside em. Nice to know the Gyeon applicators also have that since I bought a kit of Syncro Evo for my car and it came with the kit, though I have a ton of the larger (and much thinner, I prefer the thinner ones as they don't shear at all when you're spreading quickly) ones and I'll likely end up finishing up with the larger ones. Love the grey and pink ones, they look absolutely amazing and at 26 bucks for a 12 pack off Amazon, I have zero complaints.

It's also a matter of personal preference. I prefer the traditional block most of the time, but if I have a car with a lot of tight contours, I use the newer styles as they conform to contours better.

Hi Todd. Love your videos but missed one thing for me here . ...I'm about to coat my car in pure evo. I bought the autofiber suede applicators (large and small) Should I use them (to save product) or should I use the gyeon one that came in the kit. Should I use the microfiber side or the suede side?

You can't go wrong either way, really. I'd flip a coin!! As for the Gyeon applicator, I like using the suede side.

After using the sponge applicator you have to throw it away correct.? On anything you use to apply/remove ceramic coatings.right?

  • @Esotericdetail

Those have 2 sides, with a moisture barrier between them. So given that, throw it away after you've used both sides. Thanks.

I have a dumb question i have been detailing for awhile but never applied a proper ceramic coating i have a few ready to go. Could you just use a clean microfibre towel to apply it and wipe it off?. Sorry if its a stupid question

  • @Esotericdetail

You wouldn't get an even application, and you'd waste a lot of product that soaks up into the towel.

As always a very informative video...I see you obviously wear gloves to protect your hands from the coating. But I see you don't wear a mask to protect your lungs..??? Surely a mask is essential...????

Only if you're using bad coatings! There are a lot of coatings out there that you should be using a full hazmat suit since they're so toxic.
