Love me slx. I use it on a 7'2 med slx rod w/10 lb flouro. Great for lighter baits like small swimbaits and squarebills

You should try this with other reels also just to see if they can do it too, like the Black Max.

It’s because your casting with one arm a cheap rod that’s not fit for that reel and every time you cast you stop it and move it to the left

That's interesting it could BFS. If You got the time and interest id try to BFS with a Curado K. when I first got mine I used it for trout fishing with 12lbs line on Piscifun 2 piece rod (old torrent) which was a noodle so that helped a lot but I did get down to 2-4 gram lures casting a fishable distance without thumbing/backlashing. and further, if I wanted to risk a backlash. 1 internal and setting 6 externals and it did surprisingly well! So well once I buy another one I'm going to try it out again but a lighter line on a BFS rod.

The Reel Test 04/08/2019 Surprise, surprise, surprise how things work given time and experimentation while using your thinking cap. The problem with using light line and small amounts of line on deep spool reels is the increased in drag caused from such a small diameter of line on the spool. You have to adjust the drag to near zero or risk having a large fish breaking your line. I bought two Tusrinoya XF-50 reels and four rods ranging in length from 5’ to 6’-eleven-inches. By adjusting line weight and the amount of line on the spool and rod length, I can cast 80 to 85 feet. The lure casting weighs is 1.89-grams. I did nothing to either reel they came as is from the box. That little rod you call cheap is a far better casting rod than ones you spent hundreds for and do not perform any better. I think cheap is not a good description for the rod. If you watch closely Saito cast on the Enjoy Fishing Channel, you will see he loads the rod on the backstroke, which increases the speed of the lure making long casts effortless. He starts at 9:00 o’clock stops at 12:00 o’clock and ends at nine in a blink. This movement never changes. He uses it casting parallel, underhand, and overhand. If I buy a Stradivarius violin and cannot play a violin worth hoot, what good is having one? Casting a fishing rod is not rocket science but it takes practice and understanding how the process works. If I guess how much line I spool on I am wasting my time. If I accurately measure the amount, I learn what amount of line improves casting. Something to consider.

I never fill my short range baitcasters line past the top of the line guide insert - finding that they cast better than full...

I actually just busted the slx out on the water for the first time today. I spent all winter tossing it around the lawn on nice days but man....this was the first time I got to REALLY put it up against my curado 70’s, 50’s, etc. It did not disappoint, man...my current use for it is on a dedicated spinnerbait/chatterbait rod and it was spectacular. Stayed nice and predictable the entire time I threw it...dare I say, even more user friendly than the curado 70 (which has the infinity system...how is that even fucking possible...). Didn’t touch the brakes once, didn’t even think about them. We’ll see how it holds up by the end of the season, though. The true verdict comes in then...at that point I’ll know whether or not I’m gonna start buying the mgl version for curado 70 applications.

To me the Curado 70 is probably the least controlled of the SVS infinity reels. Shimano released the SXL XT in australia and it has the Svs infinity. maybe it will be released here at ICAST? if it is I know it wont be $99

THE REEL TEST Honestly, it’d be a dumb business move on shimano’s part to release an slx with svs infinity for $99. $130-150 I could see...any less and they’d be biting into their own curado market.

Great review I fish alot of 1/8 spinners and am new to using a baitcaster. Started just this month using a Lews Xfinity and have enjoyed it. Cast 1/8 spinners about 30 to 35 yards with no problems. Using 30 pd braid ld diameter with a fluro leader have caught alot of fish. Will the SLX blow it away is my question. Thanks for doing the review.

Id still favor that Curado 70, but i have a feeling its going to get an update this year

Sounds good, I wonder if anyone will ever make an aftermarket BFS spool for it. The other day I ordered a scorpion BFS xg, and tomorrow it's going to arrive. It was from an American seller too, so no waiting 2 weeks. Today I put the kayak in the water for the first time this year, and nailed a buncha crappies, few bass, sunfish, and other panfish, with my 2 xf50s. I was throwing a homemade popper, without the hook , and a trout magnet + 1/64 oz sickle hook jig, on a leader . The popper was being used as a float basically. It casts better than an actual float, so I use it instead. Funny thing today, I was fishing that popper + dropper rig, and a bass came up and totally smashed that popper, and since it didn't have any hook, I didn't hook that bass lol. If it had the hook on it, that popper would get hung in branches so much more.

@@THEREELTEST noice, the ones I got today were mostly smaller. The keeping size here is only 8" for crappie. Nearly everything was biting those trout magnets. I even pulled up a fat golden shiner lol.

Will I run into issues with a full spool of say 6-8lb on a BFS setup. I noticed you mentioned the non full spool a couple times so I was just curious

I cast an 1/8 oz all the time with lews and bomb the 2.8 on a 6’6” falcon rod... I use 6lb at lightest on line though....need to fill your reel more for better distance

Best brakes on the market for 100$ insane how good. My only down fall with mine was on the side of the worm gear broke and became sloppy then didn’t line up at all and became garbage but I think I got a faulty worm gear

BFS probably win in Accuracy 🐡

Your spool was very controlled because thatś the nature of centrifugal brakes, the faster the spool goes the harder they brake, and since the spool was very underfilled, hence, low diameter, the spool was spinning very fast. That's why even one brake block was too strong. With some thicker line as backing and a fuller spool you'd get slower spinning and a more customizable braking behavior

well, its just a fact. A spool completely filled spins at less rpms when delivering the same amount of line, hence centrifugal brakes apply less pressure

I really want a shallow spool for the slx. Anybody found on aliexpress etc. If there are those already being sold

THE REEL TEST the reason im buying not because the bfs reason but to comply with the situation of my fish hunt, i fish hampala and they tend to play in rocky waters filled with twigs but they like small lures more than heavy ones. I need an easy to control braking while using lighter lures on medium poundage

Good job man I love the vids. Do you think you can do some line reviews? There’s a lot of budget lines like Kastking and godline and I’ve always wondered how they preform and I’m pretty sure many others as well. The only reviews online are obviously bought so it would be nice to have an unbiased review

Here's a review: kastking line sucks. The fluorokote 20lb test broke on multiple hooksets, tested at home and broke at around 8lbs. Tested Berkley 100% fluoro, broke at it's rated strength.

Damn that's a power fishing reel...

a true 1/32? the 16 Aldebaran with the 16ALD15R avail spool. And theres only 1 rod I know of that can handle a lure like that, the Kuying Teton TTC 510s

the SLX and Curado 70 have similiar spool weight. but I think the Curado is much better for finesse. Yes someone told me of the SXL XT. looks to be australian market with SVS Infinity

I recommend getting the SLX MGL if your getting this SLX.

I sincerely like my SLX more than my Curado DC and Daiwa 100. All brand new for 2018, and I purchased them at the same time a few months ago. The SLX is the cheapest of the bunch, better you’d never know it. The thing is absolutely stellar, in my opinion.

Both shimano staff : curado DC!! me : Why? shimano staff : Because DC system. No more annoying thing just go fishing, U will have fun for sure. me : Then why u make SLX MGL? shimano staff : The SLX body is strong and Tiny. When hold in your hand and swing it out, is feel really great. Combine which MGL spool and adjustable sideplate This reel will have very very wider lure weight range. me : How about BFS wich SLX MGL? shimano staff : BFS reel still better. me : Any plan for Curado BFS or something cheaper than Scorpion BFS? shimano staff : No plan for now. We know people who love BFS style is increasing, But our BFS system making cost is really expensive.

The rod is not really a BFS

That rod could be a bulk of your problem, because it's so short.
