Can The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6 Bring Back The Sedan With Long Range and Fast Charging?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
361 miles of range, 18 minute fast charging. If you ever needed a reason to consider a new EV, that's a solid argument. Hyundai got there by making one of the most efficient sedans in America, tying with the considerably more expensive Lucid Air and by employing a native 800V architecture laser focused on rapid charging. Even the 0-100% time is insanely fast at 43 minutes to a full charge.

Battery preconditioning has been available on all Ioniq5 since about June 2022 and available as an update for the early AWD Ioniq5 since December 2022. The interesting thing is that the Ioniq6 launches with route planning including charging, which isn’t “officially” available on the Ioniq5 or EV6 (although it can be turned on). I like the improved efficiency of the Ioniq6 a lot, but I’m not sure its enough for me to overlook the appearance of it compared to my Ioniq5.

Regarding this versus the Model 3, the Model 3 definitely has its advantages. They have been making EVs for over a decade, not a year or two. The Performance model has tax credits, a national Supercharger network, and outstanding resale value. The Ioniq 6 is better looking, with a more upscale appearance, inside and out, and incredible rear legroom, warranty, and a real dealer network, for service issues. If you don't want to be just another guy in a Model 3, the Ioniq 6 is worthy of your consideration.

So what? Their first ev still sucks with build quality, the new 3/y have a chassis that can't be repaired, the 4860 battery pack is sealed and not repairable, and their advantage of their charging network is also not a factor since they are installing adapters for every other vehicle to use. Oh and their resale value tanked in the past few months.
This 2024 Ioniq 6 looks better than model 3! Efficient, roomy rear seat, fast charging, over the air update, and most important, well built!

The problem with this 6 where I live in Canada is the price! After rebates the base Ionic 6 is 50% more money then the Prius Prime SE which offers more trunk space, gas heat and 900 km gas range for winter trips will be more then double the range of the top Ionic.

The side and rear view of the car is interesting. The front view is boring. The Lidar sensor may not work well in snowy climates?? Once again, priced higher than an ICE. Raise you hand if you've fast charged at a CCS location and a Tesla location. I have; and in general I'd say that longer-range non-Teslas don't really make much sense to me. Longer range non-Teslas only have an advantage if you have a very specific trip where you have your own charging right before the limit of your range. My hunch is that for LONG trips with multiple re-charges along the way, a Telsa with 300 mile range will have a shorter trip time than a non-Tesla with 360 miles of range.

Meanwhile the most commonly sold awd trims will weigh up to 4,600# and get just 270 miles of range for 55-57k+ and no tax credit. 👍🏻 And other real world reviews in mild Cali show just 2.9-3.3 miles per kwh driving efficiency. That 360 mile range melts away on a long trip that you need preconditioning. You'd lose 10% or so to speed losses, then you need to precondition above 20% so you need to turn it on at 25 which uses more range, and can only fast charge to 80. If the weather isn't perfect you'd lose another 10%... So you have a real world usable 50% of your rated range and suddenly you're needing to charge every 180miles. Calling 11.2 cu ft of cargo "on the small side" is laughable. It's unacceptable. The Model 3 has more than double the capacity (22.9 cu ft). Sedans are a dying breed so they have to be great to sell. The rear of the Ioniq 6 is a fail. Other than the better visibility, people buy SUVs for the interior and cargo space. They made the roof and trunk too short and the battery pack cuts into the trunk making cargo space too small and rear headroom too low. A neighbor's ID.4 makes almost no noise going by, but the tires on the Ioniq 6 roar like a half-ton truck and it makes a strange artificial woosh sound.
Well Alex, since you asked,...the sloping rear section needs to go. Give me a full-size sedan that has a proper squared-off rear window and trunk that you can have a spare tire, two golf bags and still have space for some more stuff and then they will be on the right path. This is the 21st Century, you can't tell me that we don't have the technology to do what I wrote above AND still get 300+ miles of EV range.
