I tried the first two methods you mention, to no avail, and then downloaded the EMCO UnLockIt software. Unlocked the folder and deleted it! Worked like a charm!! You saved me! Perfect! I'd tried several other supposed fixes but yours actually worked.

Sometimes the file can't be deleted because another program is using it, in which case closing that program will often allow the file to be deleted. Although the simplest thing to do is to restart the computer and then try deleting the file. That will close out anything that might be using the file.

Thank you. This has been an issue with Windows 11 not wanting to delete files/folders that I want removed. These command prompts are great, I had a MS OFFICE folder in the programs directory, which is x64 files, that was refusing to delete from the command prompt. So with the help of unLock it, I was able to successfully remove that folder, making me, one happy camper.

Waheyy! That Emco Unlock-It did the trick. Pity I didn't find this video till now! I'd have saved myself a lot of time if I'd seen this before I'd seen the video about enabling Core Isolation!

video is an absolute help, had an issue with a file, and those cmd and PowerShell options, didn't work but that recommended software was successful in deleting a very stubborn file.

Thank you so much, the only thing that was able to get rid of the file was the Unlock IT app. I spent an hour trying to get rid of this file and was frustrated until I happened upon this video and you showed how to get rid of it. 🙏🙏 Thanks a lot

Hey! I have this ".json file" (settings.json) to be exact on my desktop whenever I tried to delete it it will be deleted but after some time it will come back to the desktop icons. I've looked into its properties and it doesn't have any memory in it or doesn't consume memory. Now I've tried this method and it's deleted but I'm not sure if it will come back. Mine contains a program that I cannot uninstall. I cannot find it in the settings or in Task Manager. When I am deleting it says "The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program".

@@prodigyink yap, I open the app. Once it show itself in the task manager I then end it and delete the program. It's actually the service stopping me from deleting it.

Hi. Didn't you do a video showing that for the inexpensive Win key you could not use the "change product key" button, that you had to do a fresh install and then apply the inexpensive key. (i actually watched the video and did a fresh install and it worked for me.)

Help! I did the steps for deleting a file in the command prompt. In command prompt upon pressing enter a response said that the file can't be deleted because the file is being used in another process. When I try to delete the file normally it says it's being used by system. This file is in the downloads section. I was downloading an xbox 360 ROM. How do I go about deleting the file in this case and/or finding how to stop the "process" that it's doing.

I figured it out in case anyone has the same problem. It was an iso image file. You have to open "This PC" in the file explorer and right click the virtual drive that was created automatically when downloading the iso image file. Open more options and press "eject". That will delete the virtual drive and then you can delete the iso image file normally or through command prompt.

The EMCO software you recommended did it for me quickly - thanks.

Thank you so much for the video. My problem was deleting Bitdefender Antivirus. It just wont get uninstalled, so I had to try removing its folders manually but I would get permission errors. I tried everything in the video, even the software, still the damn antivirus folders wont get deleted (the installer wont install a new version unless current one is removed completely and their uninstaller doesn't work.). Such a weird pain in the ass.

What annoys me is that sometimes I delete a file but it stays there for about five minutes - you can't delete it second time as despite still showing in File Explorer it cannot now be accessed and then it eventually disappears.

I know this video is rather old but I have come to a bit of an issue. CMD tells me that the file has given an access denied prompt for everything within the folder I am trying to delete. I cant seem to get around this. Please help. My system I am running is a windows 11 machine if that helps.

omg! that unluck software just removed a folder that have been bugging me for MONTHS! so freaking annoying, kept getting "access denied" and permissions errors. And I was like "Whaaaaat!!!?! I don't wanna deal with permissions, that why I bought a windows machine" but apparently permission hell can also exist on windows. No cmd or power shell commands were able to remove the folder, they errored out as well. Also tried following all Microsoft guide i could find about changing ownership, editing r/w permissions, changing admin privileges etc. NOTHING worked. but that emco software just removed the folder like it was nothing. Hey Brian, I actually use Iobit Unlocker to unlock and force delete them, but mostly I use "Take ownership" 😉 which is cool. Thanks for the video Brian😄

Great video, helped get rid of two annoying files. Trying to delete two more undeletable files on a 1TB SSD drive I use as back up but even these recs won't delete them - any ideas apart from formatting drive - got a lot of stuff on there, thanks

Create a Live Linux USB and boot to that, navigate to then delete the files from within the Live Linux session then reboot and all should be fine again.

Had the dreaded Java 8.1 update 51 file name in the installed programs list in Control Panel. This file would not uninstall or delete because it couldn't be found. I had to go through the entire registry to find the 8.1 jre. file. Found the files after a looking everywhere and the heading finally disappeared.

What I used to do is rename it, drag to recycle bin, and after reboot it could be deleted from there. I also had a good file delete app I don't remember the name of which could also overwrite with code. Most of those don't work.
