‘Can’t bury myself 10 ft under’: Prashant Kishor on his political ‘advice’ to an NDA ally
Many see Prashant Kishor as not an ordinary political analyst. As cofounder of IPAC - a political consultancy he claims to not be involved with anymore - he has earlier worked on campaigns and parties across the spectrum, from Narendra Modi’s BJP to Mamata Banerjee’s TMC.
In a conversation with Sreenivasan Jain, Kishor takes on his critics, answers questions over a potential conflict of interest, and whether India’s electoral democracy can survive a third Modi win.
Kishor says he has been trying to create a new political space in his home state Bihar after working on “political aid” for “10 years”. “For the last two-and-a-half years, I have been roaming around, walking in the villages of Bihar in the search of…my quest to do something in Bihar that would fundamentally change the politics there…I am one of the founders of Jan Suraaj in Bihar.”
But while he claims to work on this alternate space, he has advised certain NDA allies like TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu. Asked if this could lead to a conflict of interest, he says, “There are people who are born sceptical. My father, when I was child, taught me something very important. There will always be critics…I don’t owe it to anybody, including your viewers, because no amount of argument, no amount of logic or commonsensical supportive evidence is going to suffice.”
About his meetings with Chandrababu Naidu, he said, “Since my erstwhile firm IPAC…has been working with Jaganmohan Reddy. There was always this doubt in the minds of Chandrababu Naidu that…you are saying that you are not helping my opponent but you are helping. So I went to meet and clarify that I don’t have any personal angst.”
In an attempt to clarify clues that hinted at his involvement in Andhra Pradesh, Kishor says he only advised TDP leader Magunta Reddy as a “friend” “Just to satisfy some of you, should I go and bury myself 10 feet down?”
“Let me summarise it one more time. You may have heard people say that we take advice from Prashant Kishor. Whether they are working with Jagan, Mamata Banerjee or many other political parties, including TDP. It’s because as you know, a bulk of them, more than two thirds of them, including those who are advising Congress, have all worked with me. So sometimes, if they so choose, they can talk to me. And I wouldn’t shut the phone on them.”
Kishor predicts a clean sweep for the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls but remains elusive about his methodology:. “I don’t have the crystal ball to tell what will be the number of seats. I am saying their loss in the west and north will not be material. I have quantified material meaning 50 or more and in east and south.”
On Modi’s communal speeches, Kishor says, “His campaigning but for two exceptions, which was in 2012 Gujarat election and 2014 general election, have always had these elements that you are talking about and referring to as communal.”
On the shift in Modi’s tone, he says it is “for the limited purpose of probably galvanising their own supporters who under their own propaganda that they are winning 400 might have been found little lethargic.”
Asked about his concerns if the BJP returns to power, Kishor says, “There will be an increasing pace of the centralisation of power and resources. And the second concern, this is from the citizens point of view, the second concern would be, I would say there will be more possibility of more public dissent, agitation.”
Asked about the future of political alternatives if Modi gets a third consecutive term as PM, he says, “In the last 30 years, we have seen very powerful regimes with popular mandate winning landslide victories…put on their knees by the people if they didn't like what was being legislated or what was being pushed down their throat. So in a country where 600 million people live on less than Rs 100 a day, I think no government or no ruler should take it for granted that the support is there forever.”

If for a moment you tell them, this is something he is good at, you will be called a "Bhakt".... And it does nothing in a bid to defend himself against the hurling abuses, the person slowly is pushed into BJP's half because opposition couldn't stand even a single word of praise. Every one is entitled to opinion and the fact it must be on your ideology 100% of the time makes you hard lined opinionated not the other one.
I remember PK being the Blue eyed boy after his prediction abt bengal 2021, the same PK became the Villain after Predicting BJP led NDA win.😅😅 The one who knows the ground report will agree that BJP will get 272+ in all probability.

The farmer's protest was not all over India. It was only from Punjab, Haryana and east of UP and it should be construed as a dissent from the whole India. Famers from rest of India had no issues at all with the introduction of farm laws. Do is the case with CAA. PK is proud about his "common-sense prediction" of elections which he thinks has an accuracy rate of 98+ percent. Since 2021 he is not helping political parties. Sreenivasan is a great journalist, and Prashant Kishore has a great political mind, but this interview was painful to watch. For some reason, PK appears to be pissed at SJ

The guy is contradicting. He is saying that he is no more a political strategist, but in the last interview "WATER WITH KARAN" he was badly exposed, where he lost his cool and challenged Mr. Thaper to show the video where he said that Congress will be routed in H. P. .... And he also said either to show the video, and he will quit his job, or else Mr. Thaper will have to tender an apology, which is hilarious. I find PK getting irritated at the drop of the hat on virtually every point,even on an uncompleted sentence of the anchor! This trend of PK is not new, few days back saw his interview with Karan Thapar in “The Wire”, same story! PK picks up a fight with Karan Thapar even before he has completed his question or sentence! Perhaps PK is too drained out touring the interiors of Bihar ! 🤔
Prashant should just say....yes I will work if I want it when I want to work...

Without going into the rationale for his arriving at the forecast that he likes to make he likes to admonish the interviewer. It doesn’t make any sense for TV Channels to take Prashant Kishore’s interview to know his opinion or prediction on which alliance is going to win how many seats, when he is not a qualified psephologist. He is neither a strategist now nor he has done any surveys, as he is saying. So how does his opinion matters?
As a PR kid, PK knows that he has been caught with his pants down. And to salvage his 'neutral' image, he is going hammer and tongs after the journalists who are exposing him. In Prashants defence, the sheer smugness of the interviewer, his snide smile from the very first minute, and his open sarcasm, was calculated to trigger him. I have met people like the host in debates and moots during my college years...and I realised that such people don't stand for anything. They are intelligent enough to argue both sides of the coin and are experts in the art of triggering. Notice how Prashant did not openly counter attack - he just got rattled and irritated. Will be super interesting to see who gets it right- Yogendra or Prashant. This election is very hard to call.

People are commenting why channels are interviewing him if his answers remain same. The question is he does not see any material changes (quoting from his statement that BJP is not losing more than 50 + seats in West+North plus Karnataka). So, the answers to these people is why are these journalists/TV reporters asking same question repeatedly? If you ask same question repeatedly then he will definitely answer the same (unless those politicians who change their statements every now and then). Secondly, why few people think Karan Thapar (KT) exposed PK? If you see his entire interview, most of the time KT keep on changing or trying to change PK's view/statement to satisfy KT's own agenda. PK has kept on saying that is your narrative / statements (not mine). So, its KT who has kept in mind to try agitate or make angry your own guest whom you called for interview. If this is the mind set of a so called journalist then we know where he is now (became a Congress pawn and living in agile life), he will be further decimated in coming years because BJP is coming more ruthlessly on this CON party and its supporters after 04 June. I had not expected such bogus interview from srinivasan. He could have easily pinned PK on UP Bihar calculation. In Bihar BJP fight only 30 seats in 2014, then how could it won 32 seats? Very cleverly pk attached karnatak with northern and western India and minimise the damage to the BJP less than 50, which is actually 70-80 seats. Then he claimed that whatever losses will be covered from Bihar Bengal Orissa Tamil Nadu Andhra and telengana state. Fact of the matter is that in Bihar and Bengal BJP is loosing and whatever it's achieve from Andhra in alliance will spent to fill this loss. This was the moot point where Karan Thapar makes him nervous and then bring his himachal pradesh and telengana statement that had totally exposed pk to look fool😂😂
