So happy for Gawad, such an amazing player. His gets in this game were unbelievable However gutted for Shorbagy, he has been so consistent this season and really deserves one more period at number 1. Played some phenomenal squash recently - this game was amazing, that frustration when you throw everything you have but come up against someone on Gawads form, must be so disheartening. Hope Gawad goes on to win

Squash spectators like to joke about Gawad's pizza eating antics and imply that he's just a shot-maker > but his physicality at the moment rivals anyone else in the sport; Coll, Makin etc. Superb movement!

Shorbagy was not unhappy about a double bounce at the end of the match. He was unhappy because the referee granted a Let that Gawad didn't appeal for at 7-6. Gawad played through the interference but immediately complained about Shorbagy's movement after losing the point on the following shot. The referee/video ref agreed. The referee has the power to allow a Let without an appeal, especially for reasons of safety (Shorbagy's movement into Gawad's line created a dangerous situation, so the referee did not want to encourage that movement). But people always say that you can't get a Let if you accept the interference, and Shorbagy was apparently unaware that the ref could decide to give one anyway.

These rallies made me yell out loud. Easily the best match I´ve seen in a while, a battle of creativity and shotmaking vs physicality and machine-like consistency. Beautiful squash by both guys, but Gawad is just playing unreal squash, and his movement is very solid too, some of his gets are unbelievable, watching him play is just a joy right now

It wasn't the venue, it was the schedule. This match didn't get started until after 10 PM on a Wednesday evening, leaving the crowd with limited options for getting home afterwards and up for work in the morning. The evening started with one of the longest women's matches on record which threw everything off.

Compared to some in the rankings, Gawad has an “unfair” advantage since he knows he never has to rely upon blocking, crowding, or gamesmanship to win. When you play pure-you never have to second guess your own instincts, no matter the opponent, etc.

Gawad is truly the best ambassador for squash at this moment with Farag a close second. Not once have I seen him use any questionable tactics to win, always a gentleman and to top it off, the supreme shot maker. I think even his opponents secretly are rooting for him to win everything. He is the polar opposite of Asal who solely depends on his physicality and cheating tactics. Very interesting era of squash we’re in.

absolutely genius stuff from Gawad! one adverse comment I would like to make, and I hope Joey and P will read this, is as follows: I have always followed the squash on SquashTV and what I hear in commentary from Joey/PJ is the same 'ole vocabulary - its poor to say the least. Come on guys, you have been doing this a very long time, and you have not improved in any way whatsoever... your most recent invention is the word "joke" to describe a great stroke or rally ... how is that good commentary... perhaps no on else out there will agree with me BT Joey/PJ... please give it a bit of thought.. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE... at its best, this is an elegant and graceful sport, do it justice in your use of vocabulary in commentary or let others into the process who may excel at it

Elshorbagy blaming the ref for his own movement being exposed even after picking up a double bounce. Anyone who has played squash to a decent level knows when they have picked up a double. Cheating is becoming rife in a sport which I used to respect.

5-4 Gawad 5th set. Easy YL decision. Commentators disagreeing saying Gawad did nothing wrong and was holding his ground. This would reasonable if ball stayed tight to wall but it bounced out to towards the players. Then commentator says ball travels even further away. Moronic statement, either that or trying to force a narrative he's already committed to. Either way, poor commentating from someone who should know better.
