    You open connections like she immediately did, and then you see this: __________ ● Wifi ○ Bluetooth ○ NFC & mobile payment ○ Airplane Mode - Mobile networks - Mobile Hotspot -> More connection settings ______________ What do you do press to connect to a Bluetooth speaker? Bluetooth? No. First, you go to "Mobile Hotspot", then to "More connection settings".

    @@irissupercoolsy "It's literally 3 taps on the screen" You need to have grown up with the concept of a screen and taps for that to mean anything at all. The puzzle is literally easier. If you put both down infront of a human that never heard about either, they are figuring out the puzzle first. IMO It is pretty weird that is not obvious to more people.

    On the flip side however, after having worked at a Verizon store for a few years where we spent a lot of time helping entitled old people, Ethan's mom's attitude comes entirely from learned helplessness and getting away with just saying "But I don't know how!" in a really whiney voice which gets someone else to do it. It is the anxiety that leads to the prolonged struggle where you get stuck on a menu with 5 clear, big font options and you "just can't see it" because what's really happening is their brain is spinning wondering why they can't just get someone to serve it to them like they're used to. 90% of the energy and time is on "WHY DO >I Random useless tidbit but, struggling when you're actually trying is okay -- it's the part where she doesn't actually want to try at all that makes it so bad

    Right? I wonder if there’s an easier way to help them understand it. They don’t seem to understand how to interact with the UI and it’s so abstract. It’s sad that people take advantage of them and scam them.

  • @hirnfaser7245

    @hirnfaser7245

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@cantfiteveryheart Yeah, there's an easier way: better usability. Make the damn "Not now" button more prominent. When googling for "google mail", there should be a clear big box directing to gmail. It could even suggest to write a mail or show a summary of the last 5 arrived mails. When she clicked on that second gmail link, google suggested to "sign in" although she was already signed in. Why? This is confusing. That error thing was just pure bad UX. Errors can happen but they'll certainly disrupt the experience. Tell the user to reload the page, don't leave him alone. Many services with lots of features use tours to guide the user through features they're unfamiliar with. Whether is works well is controversial, but it would've helped in this case. It's easy to blame the user. But creating bad user experiences will lead to people not getting a simple job done; this is especially true for people who are unfamiliar with the topic or computers in general. Solution would be to make better products and to not only design one path. Get your service tested by all sorts of people. Not so hard.

    For those who were curious, the dictionary keeps popping up because she is pressing so hard on the track pad. The MacBook has a feature where it will detect a “hard” click and preform different actions. For the record you have to press significantly harder than normal to make that happen.
