I haven't played my Charvel DK24 in months because I picked up a Gretsch Junior P90 and I like the bridge humbucker so much that I haven't felt the need to break out the Charvel in a while. So cool to see you review one. The low end Gretsch guitars I think are the best quality, best sounding sub $700 guitars on the planet.

The David Gilmour riff at 4:53 was great! I have this same guitar and its play ability and clarity and lack of feedback truly make it a modern Gretsch with the same classic charm. It can do all of the classic scratch things but can also handle any style of music. I play it in a 7 piece funk band and it's extreme sonic clarity combined with its obvious visual presence absolutely command attention.

In early 1969, Joe Walsh was hanging out with Keith Moon. He was taking lessons on how to destroy hotel rooms and to see just how many party favors they could run down their neck without ending up in the Morgue. Walsh gave Pete Townshend a 1958 Gretsch 6120 as a gift. Pete used that guitar to complete "Tommy" and used that same guitar on every studio album from "Who's Next" to "Endless Wire" Including "Quadrophenia" and "Who Are You". Pete never lets that guitar leave the studio. It got smashed one time as it was stepped on and knocked off the back of the stage once. He had the guy that repaired all his smashed guitars restore it, and it has not left the studio since. He said that Gretsch guitars are the most versatile guitars ever made and he can get all the sounds and tones he needs out of that one guitar. And he said, (his exact words) it's the loudest fu@king guitar he has ever played ! His Gretsch can be seen on a guitar stand in this promotional video for the "Who Are You" single and album from May 1978. Pete is not playing the Les Paul seen in the video. He said in an interview that the Les Paul was easier to do his silly dance with rather than the much larger 6120. I myself have been using Gretsch guitars and Magnatone amp's since I was a kid and started playing guitar in 1958. I started with an old Synchromatic Jazz Box and bought my first 6120, a 1958 model as well in 1963 for $250.00 . Here is the video that has Pete's Gretsch on the stand. kzread.info/dash/bejne/goKWpKark8ipqZs.html

The truth is that ANY guitar can rock out! If its got six strings and you can plug it in, then it you can rock out on it! The only real issue between guitars is how they compare in sound and playability. Is a Gretsch going to sound like a Strat? No, it will not, but it will still rock nicely. Will it handle as nicely as a Strat? No, it won't satisfy in that department either! I know because I have both a Gretsch and a Fender Strat and I can tell you that the Gretsch feels nothing like my Fender in the hand. My fender feels like it was custom made for my hands, as where the Gretsch just feels like a a decent guitar in hand! I can still play my Gretsch nicely, but it doesn't sound or feel like my Fender.
