I absolutely love wearing modest clothes. Before I came to Christ I was definitely not a modest woman but once He started to renew my mind, I got VERY uncomfortable showing my skin! Now I keep from wearing shorts that are too short (they must sit half way down my thigh at least), and I do not like showing my shoulders at all. I like long flowing dresses and skirts and I will wear slacks and leggings too, but my rule is I have to wear something that covers my bum and nether region lol. So long shirts, sweaters, long shawls etc. I feel more secure and actually think my new style is more beautiful than my last. There is nothing wrong with covering up and being modest😊

The word "modesty" is derived from the Latin word "modestus", which means "within measure". The root of "modestus" is "modus", which means "measure" or "manner". What I think this means is you're allowed to dress in the customary manner for a particular situation in your society. Some people think "modest" means "conservative", but if you study the root origins of the word, it doesn't actually mean that. So you can wear normal clothes for your surroundings, you don't need to dress prudishly.

@@tomcollins5112 I agree with your statement, to an extent. I can say for me, one of the main reasons I dress modestly is because I do not like being the reason a man sins in his heart (Matthew 5:28). I don’t believe my style is prudish, but I would rather be seen as such then to be something to lust over. Just my personal opinion.

Reasons for head covering So the very first reason for head coverings is because of the created order. This is the foundation that Paul said “But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God” (1 Cor 11:3). This is not a cultural argument, but a transcendent argument as the Fathers headship is eternal and unchanging. Because the ordinance of head covering is for certain times (verse 4-6), demonstrating a removable covering. (verse 6) It was to be worn during certain times (prayer and prophecy, or worship). This is not possible with hair. A man (men were instructed not to cover their heads) cannot remove his hair then put it back on when praying is done! “If a woman will not” demonstrates the covering was removable. Because a woman’s hair (length according to the individual) is for her glory. (verse 15) Part of the purpose of the head covering is to veil this glory, not showcase it. Individual glory is the LAST thing any should want in the Presence of God! Because this creates quite a quandary for women who cannot grow “long hair.” Think of Alopecia or some African women. Can they still pray and prophesy in certain settings? Regardless of hair length though, a covering can still be worn. Because of the way verse 6 would read if we substituted “hair” or “long hair:” “If a woman will not [have long hair], let her cut her hair short…” Huh? She would already have done that! The whole point of that verse is to show the shame of her not covering. Because it would be very odd if her symbol of authority in the presence of angels (v10) was one that gave her glory (v15), since the biblical testimony of angelic worship is not glory for angels, but angels showing humility and covering themselves. (Isa 6:1-3) Because the Church agreed with the simplicity and power of this teaching for 1950 years, from the time of Apostles (v16) through the mid-Twentieth Century (1950-60s). We only began to disobey these precepts on a large scale when feminism hit the West like a tidal wave.

I’ve been divorced for one year now large in part to infidelity in the relationship. Even now walking into the gym solo I have to overlook a lot. There is nothing left to the imagination anymore, at all! A few months ago when it was still warm, young ladies enter at 9am Sunday service wearing crop tops and skin tight skinny’s. They look amazing and I understand God created our beautiful form but as we know the enemy perverts all of Gods creation. I leaned over to my mom and I was like, “really, in church ??” And she corrected me, and she’s like heyyy anyone is welcome here. I stand corrected and I get it. But I just wish some of these young ladies had a little respect for the fact that marriages are being battled a lot in this day and age with everything that’s on the internet …. They don’t really need to add to it by getting inside of the mind of men at church, in my opinion. Nothing left to the imagination ANYWhere anymore, no place is safe, I feel.

Verses 5 through 7, as well as verse 13, of 1 Corinthians 11 use a form of the Greek word for "veiled", κατακαλύπτω katakalupto; this is contrasted with the Greek word περιβόλαιον peribolaion, which is mentioned in verse 15 of the same chapter, in reference to "something cast around" as with the "hair of a woman … like a mantle cast around". These separate Greek words indicate that there are thus two headcoverings that Paul states are compulsory for Christian women to wear, a cloth veil and her natural hair.

I'm a 4th generation pentecostal. I was always taught to be separate from the world. There are scriptures in the bible that gives us guidelines on what we should do and wear. Wearing clothes that distinguish what your sex is separates u as a woman or a man. Woman's hair is our glory. It is our power. Alot of people say its not important but it is to God.Through searching and praying God revealed to me it is important to him. God says that we should be holy for he is holy. What does that mean to someone. How do we show our separation to the world. To show that we are different from everyone else.. The baptism in Jesus name makes us new creatures in christ. Then the holyghost is the evidence of his love that will live inside of us. The reason for all the standards that people state aren't really important, they are to God. It may not be mandatory to make it into heaven. But it pleases him. Why wouldn't someone want to please the one they love?

I completely agree. I was raised Lutheran and “believed ,” my whole life but didn’t live it. Once I ACTUALLY got saved I put aside denominations as best as I could and have let Holh Spirit lead me.. I often head cover and I LOVE wearing skirts and dresses as a woman so much so that for a time being I actually threw away ALL of my pants. I have some again now etc but they’re not skin tight and I make sure most of my shirts cover my lady bits or are very clearly feminine. Sometimes I still wear t shirts and stuff but clearly I look like a woman. I try not to dress so Grungy everyday anymore as I’m taking more “pride,” if that makes sense (not trying to be prideful,) in dressing like the daughter of a king. I want to spread positive feminine energy in a society that needs examples of it desperately and an example for my daughters and younger women to look to etc

But do you drive a car? Also, God doesn't care about 4th or 5th generation denominations just like He didn't care for the Pharisees or Sadduces who were from the priesthood of Aaron. We don't become a new creation when we are baptized, we become a new creation when we make a covenant with God to obey His word. Baptism is a symbolism of that. Many people are baptized and aren't obeying the word of God.

@neonicpixles That’s literally my story. When I really began to study scripture, not just listen to sermons or catch a verse of the day here and there, everything came into context, and I no longer connected with any denomination. It’s completely changed who I am. As my understanding grew, my life changed, and I look different as a result. I too wear dresses almost all the time now, rather than shredded jeans and tight tops, and I wear beautiful but modest head coverings for gatherings with other believers. People say I’m not required to do these things, and I agree. But I take joy in doing what I feel the Lord has led me to do. Now, when well meaning Christians try to correct me (usually in a frustrated tone), saying things like, “We’re not required to observe the Sabbath,” I say, “Well then you’re free not to, but you’re not stealing my blessing!” Lol! I love following Yeshua in whatever ways He leads me. It’s not a burden. It’s peace.

I think his overarching point was not to put all of your time, attention, money on something that only draws focus to you. Nothing wrong with you having your hair in a style healthy for you, that is beautiful and is something you like. It’s when you waste extra money, have flashy colors/gems or metals, when you focus on making yourself the center of your world. And I don’t think that’s what your doing! I dress in dresses and skirts only , leggings under dress or skirts. But I find it difficult to quote to someone not to cross dress because of that verse. I believe we have the Holy Spirit in us and thus the laws of the Lord are written in our hearts. You don’t have to teach modesty to someone whose heart is filled with the love of God, it comes naturally. Not as a law but as a new nature

We cannot trust our flesh, as we often confuse it with the voice of God. We have scripture to guide and teach us. Modesty doesn't come naturally either, it is taught, if we trust our flesh for modesty then we'll end up adopting whatever attire the culture promotes. We have to call out and denounce immodesty, while also commending modesty. Remember, as people of faith, we are not called to dress like the world, but to dress apart from it, professing how us Christians should dress.

Yes to many we have to teach , the issue is because they are not filled with the Holy Spirit. You can’t be filled with the Holy Spirit and follow the world, you would hate the world and all it’s customs as God does. That’s my point. Where I come from modesty is like the foundation of everything yet there are always new issues to be addressed about this. Simply because their hearts are not regenerated in Christ. When someone starts dressing like the world it just portrays how the inside is. The world has replaced God in the heart so it manifests outwardly . The remedy is not teaching how to dress , is showing them the road to Christ. Who will transform their hearts❤️

I agree with what you have shared here . So many women don't know that they look like the world in what they wear at church .They are literally causing men to stumble in their walk with the Lord by their dress: specifically, tight , short dresses with super high heels and low necklines are totally inappropriate or modest for church . . I wish more Pastors took the time to break things like this down to their congregations . It might help cut down on lust, fornication , adultery and divorce. I do think that jeans on a Sunday morning are acceptable for praise teams as most of the congregations in churches across America wear jeans. I just think that the women on praise teams need to wear longer tops that are more modest and that both don't wear ripped jeans or too tight jeans or cropped tops or shorts.

Some have taken issue with the fact that the Greek word used for covering in verse 15 (περιβόλαιον - peribolaion) is a different word than the form of the word used for veiling/covering in verses 5-7 and 13 (κατακαλύπτω - katakalupto), the latter of which means "to cover wholly" or "to veil". Moderator of the General Assembly of the Free Church of Scotland, John W. Keddie, contended that if simply any hair were the covering Paul was talking about, then verse 6 would read "For if the women have no hair on her head, let her also be shorn", rendering the passage to be nonsensical.

Perfectly said… thank you so so much. Paul’s Washer and his wife says that if your clothing is a frame for your face then God is pleased with it but if it is a frame for your body then God hates it…. I think it’s so true and sums up what modesty should look like. Revealing less skin and less tightness in certain areas should be the goal. Honouring God alone should be our focus. I’ve been to churches where I had to speak to elders to address this issue and in one church all they said is well they have spoken to the husbands and it’s their job and if they don’t do anything about it then they can’t either… shocking! so what kind of godly husband would allow his wife to look like she is wearing her ‘jewels’ for all to see? It still does my head in…. When a woman gets dressed it’s so important to ask the Holy Spirit’s help - might sound stupid to some but that’s what I do. If I’m unsure about a dress or so I don’t wear it… my husband is also part of the process when needed… It’s vital for me not to be a stumbling block for anyone… It’s about being holy and presentable and acceptable to God - a holy sacrifice to Him. You come to church for Him NOT for yourself. When a wife is out of line the husband needs to say something about it and and help his wife…. And tbh that doesn’t just go for church modesty but outside of church as well including swim wear…. God bless and thanks again for this refresher. 🙏🏻😊

Mrs. Washer's definition is a step in the right direction, because it at least gives us something concrete and universal rather than "it's up to each person." But why stop there? A person can be totally covered with a loose, plain garment, and still draw attention to themselves through their hair, their face, the colors of their clothing, etc. I'm not sure where Vlad gets the idea that we can dress fashionably outside of church. Fashion is a form of self-worship, and Biblically speaking, we shouldn't act any differently out of the church than we do in church. I think Mrs. Washer's standard could be improved by saying, "If your clothing is a frame for your body *or* your face, then God hates it. If your clothing puts the attention away from any part of you and onto God, then He accepts it."

I think most of the churches today are leaning toward the liberal side. Their take on it is it's what's in your heart, not what you're wearing, and I agree with you on God knows your heart But we who are here and amongst each other it matters what we wear. I believe both men and women it's important to frame your face not your body. I personally believe that I need to dress respectively in every area to honor God and do not cause another to stumble. So for me, personally, I feel the Lord is telling me to keep my arms covered and the majority of my legs covered and not to wear something that is showing the curves of my body. So even in the summertime in Florida, I wear a 3/4 sleeve sweater to not emphasize on certain areas of my body. There are many women who do not feel that they need to keep certain areas of their bodies covered. And they may feel that I am legalistic because I do. I believe that if you continually pray and seek God read his word and study it daily, you will learn or be convicted that modesty is very important to a christian lifestyle. Also, I have changed the way pray and it has been very effective for me. I know go to a private area, get on my knees, bow down with my head covered with a thin scarf, and I pray out loud. I do whatever I can to please God and he know he can use bc I ask, what can I do for You? I am willing to be used. God is good.

Think of it this way would you wear cleavage and legging in heaven ? My motto is if you wouldn’t wear it in heaven you shouldn’t wear it on earth!
