Can I use E10 FUEL in my Dirt Bike?

This is a little bonus video today as we want to make sure you avoid potential problems with your bike. E10 fuel is here to stay but is it safe to use in your Dirt Bike? We have heard a lot of horror stories about E10 so we brought in our channel friend and tuning expert to find out more about what fuel you should be putting in your bike.

    Well done , Great advice on over winter storing dirt bikes ,drain the carb and tank . When we changed over to unleaded fuel back in the late eighties there were two bikes which could not run on unleaded Honda CB1100R and Yamaha XT500 , not sure what they were meant to use back then instead but probably unleaded super now . As far as I was aware vegetable based oils do not combat moisture on engine components and fully synthetic two stroke oils are much better in my opinion anyway . The tip on using avgas mixed in your fuel has been used successfully by classic racers for a long time , but with unleaded super as opposed to normal unleaded . Using unleaded super increases the octane rating of your fuel .

    Most carburetted bikes have a fuel bowl drain screw on the side you just crack open with a screwdriver to drain the fuel in the bowl with the petcock in the off position..the 17mm hex plug at the bottom is there to mainly facilitate quick main jet replacements.

    I would say E10 for your engine, Is like ciggarets for your children. One wont kill it, but very soon you will nothest that it wont run as far as the others anymore, and there is a long range of bad side effects like cancer and engine knocking

    Simple......get your E10 fuel, add water to it, shake it up and leave it for a few hours, alcohol(ethanol) is attracted to water.....water and gas don't mix......drain water from bottom of container and you are left with straight gas, or gas that has a tiny amount of ethanol.

    Hot tip- mineral oils do not mix with alcohol/methanol. Bean oil (castor) does. I would still drain the tank and carb dry before any kind of storage after using E-10, or even run a little heavy mixed meth-free fuel through it. Another alternative is doing a full methanol conversion. Its illegal for motorcross, but other forms of racing allow it. It is just as maintenence intensive, but offers up to a 30% increase in power (with proper set-up), at the cost of increased consumption. Kits are available from various aftermarket manufacturers.

    @JohnDoe-du6yi2 жыл бұрын

    It’s definitely worse on 2strokes than on 4strokes. It’s harder on crank seals and will turn to vapor in the bottom end before it makes it to the top end. It will also pull atmospheric moisture out of the air and it will separate leaving the bottom off your tank where the petcock is with water during storage in your bike. Then when you turn your gas on it fills the carb with water and alcohol.

    I’ve been using power plus 105 octane and maxima 927 in my yz144 for a fair while now, the fuel is e10 and oxygenated 3%, I’ve probably gone through about 80 to 90 litres, I did have to up jet my pilot and main jet significantly but it is an oxygenate fuel so it did need it. I’ve done countless plug checks being parinoid that I’ll melt a piston. I haven’t even changed a ring yet since the fuel change, I did notice that my bike ran colder roughly around 5 degrees because I run a temperature gauge radiator cap. I pulled my top end off last weekend, so that I could get an insert made for my vhm race head . This bike has sat in my shed for upto a month without being Started and It showed no signs of corrosion, I do block the tank breather pipe tho, overall I’m impressed with the fuel and with the right steps it can be safe for your two stroke.

I did try 102 power plus for a while aswell, the throttle response was abit snappier than the 105 but I like the 105 better, I’d definitely try it but you will have to re jet it. "high performance" is not the right term...it is the COMPRESSION that determines what octane....high performance is a realtive subjective term....a motorcycle could produce 100hp and achieve some very "high" perfromance numbers and yet still only need and in fact best run on 87 octane gasoline. I have had to talk certain people OUT of running premium fuel in their lower compression engines....they ASSUME they are doing good and pampering their beloved vehicle when in fact all they are doing is adding extra carbon to the combustion chanbers and wasting a lot of money....never assume such! READ your owners manual and trust it for octane requirement...not some cars like late model Mazdas with Sky Active can actually run from low to high octane and the system will adjust things to work safely....you will benefit with higher horspower with the high octane while saving money without damage running regular gas....fun days canyon runs or track days? PREMIUM....Then same vehicle for commuting or a road trip? Use regular! Best of both worlds for my little mx5 roadster!

    I would say besides the storage issues, there is absolutely zero issue with E10. Gas stations in the USA have had it as the main fuel source for a number of years. Stock motorcycles (Off road race bikes and motocross) bikes run fine on it using premium unleaded. I usually buy non-ethanol but the vast majority of folks use gas station gas. It's kind of ridiculous what these guys with no experience with it are saying IMO. @999lazer If you're running a high compression with aggressive timing use freaking race gas anyway. You have to go through your gas every couple months. Ethanol is very bad to store in a bike... Very bad. Even using stabilizer can work but I absolutely don't.

I have many motorcycles in my dirt bikes I always run race gas (VP PRO6) in my KX450F and VP MRXO2 in my KX125 two stroke but that stuff cost $205. For a 5 gallon tub . and I have no problem with my bikes BUT in my street bikes my Goldwing 4 carbs my Silverwing 2 carbs my CBR600F3 4 carbs all of them ran fine when I parked them but after sitting for months all the carbs are clogged and have that green film all through them from putting that E10 fuel in them😵😵😵😵😵😭 now Ill have to rebuild 12 carbs before I can ride them 😣If I took them to a shop they want $120 per carb. To clean and rebuild! An average person that doesn't turn a wrench will either give up on their bike or get raked over the coals to have them rebuilt. The it will happen again if they let their bikes sit for a few months without draining the carbs and tank since that E10 crap has a very short shelf life. Its a conspiracy to ruin our old bikes lawn mowers anything with a small engine or a carb .

    Okay assuming the effort and expense went into proper engineering lets think about this....with fuel injection we ALREADY need a full time fuel pump so why not use gasoline as coolant? Engineer the fuel pump to handle both functions and use materials on fuel tank resevoirs that allow them to work as radiators...now I know what the first problem people are going to point to which is running low on fuel could mean motor will overheat ....which any years ago would be a concern but these days with onboard computer adusting fuel delivery ignition and maximum rpm per temperature points etc? When fuel gets dangerously low and or temps begin to threaten longevity? Everything gets dialed back accordingly...what the bike at that point lacks in power it is making up for perhaps in RANGE....It just seems to me that early on in a ride with full complement of fuel that motor is going to have a fantasic abilty to stay cool....no?....also for safety concerns the fuel tank could be monitored for ruptures and actually cut the ignition if that is sensed
