In this video, I race the Utah Valley Half Marathon, and update my progress on making $10,000 in prize money as a non-professional athlete. This race was a ton of fun, and things are getting interesting with this challenge.
First video in the series (Bloomsday 12k):

So you could say Elite? lol
This is genuinely one of the most creative series on KZread
That thumbnail made me laugh - In Benjamins, $10,000 is about 1 inch tall in a single stack.
I subscribed so I can follow your journey in this series. Let's go!
Great video keep going strong 💪
1:03 🤯 nice job man
You earned yourself a sub. Well done on the 1.03.
This is a brilliant idea for a series.
I'm invested! You got this!
Great video. keep pushing!
Great work brother, I don’t think I can even run 1 mile in 4:50, but I’m working on it 😂
Can't wait to see how you do in Duluth.
Nice videos series!! 18% completed!
Such a fun series!
The half at Grandma's is pretty competitive. Best of luck!
He is so much like the guy from ICarly!! I love this series ❤️🦾
Your channel has been coming out with such great content! With consistency too! Have you thought about racing trail/ultra races in the future? Im sure you could win some money within that sphere of running, with possible front running success.

Glad you like it! I have thought about it, and right now I don’t have any plans to race trail/ultra. I like the roads better right now, and the time commitment is too much right now to run longer than what I’m already doing. But maybe some day!

@@mottesen_runs There is sub ultra trail races! Stuff like the recent Go pro games have v decent prize money. they range from VK up to like 21k
Let’s go! Minnesota doesn’t know what’s coming
beast! Very cool
Would take a season or so in South Korea if you’re faster than 31 min 10km. $1,000 $500 for all the big races. Winner’s around 31 usually.
I hope you were wearing reflective pants while running at 5:15am Michael. I don’t want you to get hit by a car!

I appreciate the concern! The road was closed for the race ;)
YESSIRRRR!
I've never won prize money at like a running event. when you get a prize like that, do they give you cash at the race or do they give you a check or I imagine a few races like mail you a check like six weeks later 🙂. What about taxes? do they withhold taxes on prize money of a certain level? The only prize money I've won is in bicycle races, and that was real low stuff like a couple $10, one time I won $25 😎... And that was all handed out in cash
@mottesen_runs

Yeah it depends on the event, but it’s generally a check either day of, or weeks later. and you have to provide the race with a w-2 form for taxes.
as someone running garry bjorklund in 3 days hearing you mention it was like a jump scare
You need to push that $10k number up, almost $2k in three weeks!

It’s not a sustainable pace - race opportunities with good prize money are not consistent. I think 10k will be very difficult!
How do you like to cool down from a race or hard work out? Do you do any static stretching?
@mottesen_runs
23 күн бұрын
I'm not much of a stretcher - except I do dynamic stretches pre workout/race. I usually just do at least 10 minutes easy jog after.
You’re a beast
Amazing video man! Also I don't mean to be rude, but how old are you? You look super youthful!

Michael, if you’re looking to make some more money, I bet their sponsors who would love to sponsor you on KZread
I watched bro change the title like a minute ago
Keep going dude! Calmer or less obnoxious music in your monologues would be great. Also make sure the music is much softer than your voice.
Nice project. If you could add some conversions some to metric units for paces and distances it would make it a bit easier for non-us viewers to follow. I just have absolutely no feeling what a certain "minutes per mile" pace is without going to some pace converter website.
No way you’re coming to Duluth ima have to say hi 😅

I think it would be cool if you did another running challenge, kind of like the one where you tried to run past as many church buildings in 5 miles. Just an idea 😁

It was the muscle cramping :/ I still think I was in better shape when I ran 2:18 whilst my calves were seizing up lol
nice ! but the music is too loud relative to your voice, especially at the beginning
Make the title shorter and thumbnail better like running into a pile of money. You will get more views.

@@mottesen_runs I cooked up an idea💡 Thumbnail - **Image**: A split-screen with two images: - On the left, a close-up of you looking exhausted and sweaty, maybe taken right after finishing a race. - On the right, a clear shot of you holding a big check or a sign showing "$200" in bold text. - **Text on Thumbnail**: “$10,000 to Go Pro?” Title - “Can I Earn $10,000 and Go Pro in Running?” You can even photoshop eluid kipchoge or other Pro runners in the background to gather more attention. Lmk how that sounds

LOL I don't see any Kenyan "amateurs" in the top finishings. Do they outright ban them or what?

I think this one was a little too small to attract them honestly
Must pay better than they use too. I must have won 50 races at your age and I dont remember any of them paying cash. I got a 50 dollar gift certificate once. Most of the time you pay 30 bucks to win a 10 dollar medal
@mottesen_runs
22 күн бұрын
Yeah, Surely they do pay a lot better now. I also don’t run many small events, and target the bigger more competitive ones intentionally which helps
If you cut your hair high and tight probably lose 5% per mile. But you make it work.

Drafting optimization would help a few percent too, running beside another runner takes more effort than behind. But, we are still talking a few percent not much.
Enjoy this! Always wondered how much non-pros could earn.
😅so casual and laidback running a 63min HM love it!
