He did do a video with Bryson where he hit all the tee shots and Bryson went like 3 under through 9. They also did 9 where Bryson hit all the tee shots and I believe Rick shot like 1 over.

for someone who struggles with tee play, I can relate to Rick's inconsistency

The hardest part of watching these is when Rick is so hard on himself. It's okay man. Golf is hard and we all have bad days, but think about how blessed are we to even play the game. Not to mention with Sergio on an awesome course and youtube is your job. Enjoy it! We root for you, but what a shame it would be to get to do everything you do and not enjoy yourself.

once he gets in a bad situation he goes for to many hail marys and it just gets worse. When he's been drawing/hooking driver why does he stand in the tee and try a slight fade? just aim up the right and keep drawing.

I remember many years ago playing in a pro-am and played like Rick. Anyway after the round I was in the clubhouse with the pro and he advised me to shorten all my clubs by an inch and a half. "Why" I asked "would that improve my golf?". "No" he replied "but at least you'd be able to close the wheelie bin". Good advice Rick. 😂

But does he? Does he show how bad it REALLY is? He seemed to be annoyed at Sergio for finding his ball at one point. Freudian slip - referring to Sergio as "the bloody ball finder".

Although Rick didn’t bring his A game, I was surprised at how humble, polite and kind Sergio was. What a class act. Would love to see a re-match and hopefully Rick isn’t too hard on himself. Golf is a mental game and I think the pressure of playing with someone like Sergio’s may have got to him a touch. All in all, shake it off Rick!

When Sergio says chipping is the best part of Rick’s game 😂 that had to hurt. Would hate to think how I would go on a course like that. Great video.

I'd be interested to see what happened if Rick stopped trying to hit shaped shots and instead took a more calculated placement using safer straight(er) shots. After watching almost every single video Rick has ever posted, I've noticed that he always tries to shape his shots with a draw or fade. Rick is probably a far better player than almost everyone who is watching including myself (15 handicap), but I've seen he looses a lot of strokes after hitting into tricky locations (as we all do) trying to shape his shots where often times he just needs to send it straight and keep it simple. On a mental level as well, Rick is such a man of the people in that once he has one bad hole, his negative self talk, personal criticism and psyche takes an almost immediate dive into a place that is near impossible for him to recover from. We see it time and time again. (same for me) Rick, we love you. Great video as always. I also can't imagine the self inflicted pressure on performing in videos like this once a channel has grown to this size. He's playing against one of the worlds greatest golfers and is on display in front of millions. The godfather of youtube golf. Keep it up pal. RS!

Completely agree with your comments about shaping shots, often when there is no reason whatsoever. He is 10 times the golfer I will ever be, but he makes life more difficult for himself, from time to time.

One of the best videos so far. Golf is real…I’ve had days where it was just my day and had them days where I just quit and left the course. Like you Rick…I grew up watching Sergio and am a fan and this is a beautiful course. Keep your head up and keep swinging.

Well done Rick, that course looked BRUTAL! Great character to keep going and making it enjoyable for the viewer. Always respect your attitude when your golfs not there. If you can keep your head up when playing a player like Sergio filming on KZread for hundreds of thousands of viewers, then I can keep my head up when my games nowhere to be seen on a Saturday morning stableford with my mates! These are incredibly fast greens. They remind me of some US Open greens over the years. The fact that a guy like Sergio, with a legendary short game, is struggling to get a single birdie, is just insane. Some of the people who think Rick is shooting our score out there, are probably overestimating themselves. Let's not forget that he is playing in the presence of a Masters Champion and the greatest Ryder Cup player of all time. Loved the video, lovely golf course!

This is definitely not the first time that Sergio has played with someone that is totally over-awed by his presence. What a lovely guy. Gutted for you Rick. That course looks really tricky! On to the next...

A very real and relatable video, as always. It’s what makes Rick the godfather of KZread golf content. But when you get so down on yourself, it really saps the fun and spectacle out of these videos, which should be epic. Maybe have Guy playing to help keep it light? Also, I know the podcast will carry a lot of the chat but we’d all love to hear more from the tour pro in this format too.

Great vid! You both played against the course more than each other. This was the hardest course on a -10 and some of the toughest greens I’ve seen on KZread golf!

Constructive criticism here, but I think Rick could do with realising he isn’t as good a golfer as he thinks he is. Very capable and knowledgeable, but trying to shot shape constantly when he probably plays to about a 7 handicap is nuts. Great content, long time follower, keep them coming mate

Agree 100%, get out on the range and practice. Grind at it until you have a stock shot you can rely on. After you have that in your toolkit if you really, really need to shape a shot then go for it...

Shot shape and trying to kill the ball. He just needed to go to stock and do an 80% swing. Whats more embarrassing, driving 60 yards behind Sergio or constantly trying to find the ball...

Tough watch but extremely relatable. Can’t even begin to imagine how hard it was to ‘keep the head’, as the level of frustration at imploding during such an exciting opportunity must have been insane. I’m not going to sit here and criticise someone who we all know is more than capable of excellent golf(not to mention the time, effort and money they’ve put in over the years for our enjoyment). But if I can provide any sort of feedback, it’d be to try and forget the poor golf, enjoy the moment for what it is and be bring some more positive energy. We’re all rooting for you Rick(or most of us are anyway).

Well done Rick and very brave of you to stick this video on you tube. Great entertainment value and will definitely watch this again. 👍

When swings fall apart like that, need to have ability to analyse and reset. The reset is created on the practise ground but appreciate trying to find it on the course whilst having a proverbial car crash is not easy. Great video, the drama of each shot was fascinating!

I think you hit the nail on the head. I could feel the nerves you had, out there playing with one of your golf idols. The pressure a guy would put on himself to feel the NEED to play well. Most people will never understand what a mental battle that is. Well played non the less, and another very entertaining video Rick!

I really enjoy listening to the podcast and then watching these. Sergio seems like a great dude. Well done Rick, your game is noticably getting better, the difference between good and great is just so huge compared to the difference of okay and good. Keep it up!!

Pros filling divots is becoming a trend. It’s fun to see how uncomfortable Rick is when they do it. It’s like a combo of humbled and “I don’t know what to do with my hands” and I’m here for it. Rick is a humble genius.

PLEASE READ RICK… smoother transition. Smoother transition. When your swinging bad it’s because your transition is snappy. Iv been watching you for so long I am 100% sure. You need someone with you to give you a nudge and remind you. Look back at your bad shots anytime and you will see. Your on plane so good when the transition is smooth. I’m a huge fan and I want you to do well dude. I’m from Trafford golf too mate.

Yeah I’ve seen sergio play this course and after I saw 7000+ yards, tight, and knowing the greens were fast I knew this was going to be brutal for Rick. It’s a different beast than UK golf. I’ve seen some decently paced greens in the UK, but even some of the nice courses Rick plays seems to be like putting on carpet. The southeast region of the US has a ton of these courses. I played my high school state golf tournament at a course in Alpharetta and it ate me alive. It was a huge wake up call of what kind of difficult courses are out there vs. what I had been playing on.

@@dontpa_nic for sure. And those type of green that are rock hard and like glass are super difficult to get used to if you don’t play them all the time. Then you add grain to chipping which doesn’t seem to exist much in the UK and it just makes a tough time out on the course. You have to hit fairways and greens otherwise you’re going to shoot an astronomical score

@@dontpa_nic I don’t take it as hate. I get it. It’s rough watching someone make zero changes to their game who has a warped perception of their skill level. I heard Rick say once that he was like a +1.5 handicap… I was like surely this is a joke… how can you expect to improve your game when you think you’re scratch or better all while playing some of the easiest courses I’ve seen. Any time he comes to the US and plays a professional level course he’s shooting anywhere from like 82-90. Like I said I get it. I used to have a warped perception from playing easier courses. Then I played a pro level course in tournament and it was a real wake up call to my actual skill level

​@@jakehmckernan1Rick has said numerous times that he feels his handicap is around 4. Playing the toughest courses from the tips with added pressure of cameras and v PGA Tour Pros you have to give him a break. The guy has a rough day here but still a pretty good golfer generally.

My heart goes out to Rick! But we all know these days, when things don't go to plan. And so recognisable on the tee: when focussing too hard, all kinds of weird and unwanted shapes appear, and when just letting it go, the ball flies off in random directions 😅 But in Rick's defence: when a guy like Sergio Garcia, who on any course typically shoots 5 or more under par, ends up par, you know that it's a really hard course. The greens seemed to have been very unforgiving with a tiny margin between hitting it too short or overly long. So: well done Rick! Next time will be better 👍 ❤. Looking forward to the re-match.

So relatable for us golfers on a bad day, it's so good to see other golfers struggling on youtube and not always see the perfect scores, it's not realistic

After watching countless Shiels Golf match ups, I can’t help thinking he would be better off with game improvement clubs, not the Players Clubs that land in the rough or the next fairway. .. just sayin.

No game improvement clubs are going to fix that over rotation at impact. He is generally finding the middle of the club it is just wide open or way shut at impact

I'll say this for the 10th time, and I'm surprised no one that plays with Rick has never said it. Rick needs to stop breaking his wrists so soon on the back swing. It's why his drives are so erratic.

You're probably right. You should start a golf channel and get 2M followers, then you can tell him. He's not a pro golfer. He's a golf entertainer. These guys aren't there to correct his swing. I'm sure Sergio saw 100 imperfections with his swing. That's not what the day is about. Just having fun.

Really felt for Rick on this one. Clearly really wants to give us all a great video to watch & must be so disappointing when it doesn’t go as he hoped The pressure to perform on these one time top pro videos must be so high Still enjoyed it. I know there’s pressure to play with Sergio and not feel like you are wasting his time but the reality is Rick just isn’t that good

9th hole, you're in the long rough, downhill lie, ball severely below your feet and you're talking about trying to hook a 6 iron towards the green?... Then you knob it 10 yards and get frustrated with yourself.. What exactly was you expecting to happen???.. You really need to work on your course management and golfing IQ.. Also, clearly not hitting driver well, get the 3 wood out or a driving iron.. Why are you continuing with driver when you clearly struggling... Awful golf from tee to green and your poor decisions made it 10 times harder than it needed it be

This was a tough day and not an easy watch Rick. We have all had terrible rounds where we feel disillusioned and it’s a lonely place. The difference is that you experienced yours in the company of an icon of our sport and have shared it for the world to see. We feel bad enough if we have this type of round in the company of one of the best players in our clubs never-mind the world! On a positive note you have been trending in the right direction so just keep your chin up and keep pushing yourself both in your own golf and in the content and collaborations! 👊🏼

Rick didn't quite catch that, pulled it left, pushed it right, thinned it, double bogey, cant putt for toffee Shiels. Im embarrassed for him. Had so many lessons from top coaches and players proves he either doesnt listen or needs to take up darts. Sergio must have thought this was a wind up.

This is the first time ever I have stopped watching one of your golf matches, your 3 under to 1 over and I just feel the worst not for you and your wish I could play golf game but for poor Sergio who spent more time finding your balls and you could feel your game/shame was effecting Sergio's game. Can't blame fast greens when your all ready in the crapper before the greens. As a KZread golf follower all I can say is SORRY Mr Garcia for what Rick brought to the course.

first ep of yours off of golf life and i want birdy dance - SG is a pure gentleman im glad these pros do shows like yours, just being humans being good at what they do, with humility love it go on the golf life!

Rick, we don’t watch these videos for you to go and shoot level par and leave the tour pro needing 11 under, and we didn’t start watching you for amazing golf in the first place, you are a personality in golf that nobody has come close to and everyone will continue to watch no matter the standard, keep your head up and either way we’ll be here!

Its massively impressive how no matter how long rick hits his putts past the hole he doesnt learn in the slightest to hit it softer. Love this real content - it’s why golf is so addictive…a terrible day at a beautiful office, playing against a golfing legend - but you were in bits..I hope you look back now and realise how fantastic it was? you hit the one straight drive on 18th and Sergio said, that’ll bring you back…he knows we all have bad days by that comment - a gentleman

These series against the pros are brilliant to watch, try your best is all you can do and remember they are pros and dont beat yourself up, enjoy it and keep them coming ! Met Sergio a while back, nice guy and was prepared to chat to us which was a nice touch !

focus on your golf instead off calling every shot like a pro

I enjoyed that dude, content is top notch regardless of the quality of golf, it’s just really good to watch.

Man what a match, it was great seeing you stick with it and anyone watching could see the frustration you felt which made it all the more natural. You could even tell that Sergio as feeling for you too. Really though, what a better way to end it on 18, great drive and then shot into the green, golf is giving everything back to and then your birdie putt.... just to show that sometimes it can be cruel and in a few days humorous lol

Ive played a few golf courses right next to Spanish Oaks (The Hills CC), and they were fantastic. This is on my list to play as well! Great video again, cheers Rick

Great to see Rick hanging in there and staying positive even though it was hurting. Fantastic to have Sergio on the channel. Hope to see him play Rick again.

I've played Spanish Oaks without wind (thankfully) and found those greens are the firmest ones I've played. Very difficult and hard to get use to. Rick is so fun to watch and really relatable to due to his great personality and sense of humor. I root for him as he aims to improve an already outstanding game.

This video is why almost every amatuer disagrees with the golf adage "drive for show and putt for dough"!! It doesn't mean a thing if your dispersion with the driver is 100+ yards left to right, the hole is dead from the tee. Well done for staying chipper, Rick, tough course and windy too

It’s always hard for the playing partner when you actively struggle. What a class act Sergio was with his positivity and encouragement. He kept the vibe of that video watchable.

Hard to see you struggling that day. However I think this could deserved a debrief video on what went wrong into your game, what you should have done differently and what technics (including mental )you should have used to recover your golf during the round. As an average golfer, what was a bad day for you is unfortunatelly a regular day for most of us. So any debrief and experience sharing will be a fantastic gift to all of us.

Rick, we're all rooting for you, bro'. I teach golf here on the West Coast of CA. This is a constructive post hoping you will read and then watch what is going on with your swing. Please go to 1:06:45 and pause the video. Using the period key while on pause (spacebar) and the comma key, you can SLO-MO forward and backwards a fraction of a second. You will immediately see what is going on with your SETUP and swing. You're definitely a qualified golfer to diagnose why that drive went left. The hardest part about golf is "what you feel, isn't real". Go back and forth watching your takeaway and downswing. There are several ways to fix the problem. Hang in there, Rick. It's a really hard game, even for the pros.

Rick, you worse day is miles better than my best, never apologise, your work is still brilliant and I am insanely jealous of where and who you play golf with. Rick I just want to say I feel you brother. I was down to a 3 hdcp last year shooting mid to low 70s regularly.. now, my last 6 rounds have been mid 80's. Golf is cruel and maddening. Love you Rick, stay positive. We know the good golf is in there

sergio is a bloodhound on finding errant shots. rick really felt pressure to perform, as he said on the first tee box. excellent watch, nice to see how sergio is so chill, like Fleetwood
