    Great video with very swish video editing and style. What struck me was Bryson came across as such a genuine guy - wanted Ricks shots to go well, encouraging an opponent, picking up Rick's clubs and filing divots for a playing partner without a second thought is what demonstrates what a sound guy he is and shows the true character of the man.

    In the the most respectful way, Bryson has somehow managed to keep an almost childlike innocence about him in spite of all the media attention and the cauldron of competitive golf. He really did want Rick to sink that birdie put on 18.

    Bryson is a stand up guy. My son and I saw him in a practice round at Wells Fargo a few years ago. A fellow golfer on my sons golf team was a huge Bryson fan but didn’t get to go to the practice round. Asked Bryson to give him a shout out so I could send it to him…And Bryson did. It made my sons fellow teammates day. Keep up the great work Bryson.

    Not really, he shot 80. We've seen Rick Break 75 now and again Rick has the potential to play some lovely golf but tends to fall to pieces psychologically when he hits a bad shots especially in the presence of tour pros(which is understandable) I don't know how good, a pre youtube Rick was? what I see is someone who once upon a time could play some good golf getting negative because he isn't. Rick seemed more relaxed around Bryson after, being with him all week making content Bryson helping Rick with his swing and strike earlier on likely took some of the pressure off playing him. Rick held the front 9 together pretty well A couple of wet balls on the back 9 and a couple in the trees didn't help him and he got lucky twice with friendly ricochets out of the trees. It could have been a lot worse. Rick did get unlucky a couple of times. Had those things gone his way then it might have been a different story. However Bryson was going easy on him and didn't really get out of 1st gear. I think Bryson played for the draw which content wise was the best result. Ironically Rick said (about the bouce outs) it never happens but he did the same thing playing Ian Poulter.

  • @lettuceb2336

    @lettuceb2336

    I think Rick is a great example of a golfer who generally scores worse than his abilities would dictate. He calls it bad luck, but I think there's a more realistic reason. Filming these rounds adds significant time to playing 18, and Rick looks to loose the laser focus required to play consistently. At times he looks like a scratch golfer and others he looks like a 12... and I completely relate. I can play near scratch over 9 holes when focused, but I tend to blow up due to distractions and slow rounds. I often look like a 2 to 4 hdcp on the range and pull off shots that no 15 hdcp should. Losing focus over roughly 1 out of 4 shots costs me a shot almsot every time. It doesn't matter that I know this, and trying hard to maintain focus can make it worse... so I accept it. Bottom line... I think Rick is playing some of his best golf in recent memory, and if he sticks with a good practice regimen and car reduce the perceived distractions breaking 75 should become commonplace.

    What a great match, well played Rick and it was nice to see Bryson being himself. He has previously been one of my least favourite players on tour but he was just great fun and genuinely encouraging of Rick - even though his incedible competitive nature shone through with some of his comments. Even then he knew they were obvious mind-games and he was aware that Rick knew, it was just banter. What I can't understand is that he seems to hit all of his short irons fat but they are absolutely superb., and I love how positive he is after ever shot.

    great match, this is the kind of stuff i like to see --- get a top-notch pro on a fine course that he knows nothing about. You'll see what their real skill level is like, and Bryson didn't disappoint. He's an absolutely incredible golf pro. Rick, even though he was getting 10 strokes, managed to get Bryson to start "trash talking" halfway through the front nine ! A couple of things i noted, from being a long-time Rick Shiels subscriber: 1) Rick's putting has improved dramatically. I don't think even Rick realizes how much it's improved (he didn't make a ton of putts, but he managed to mostly dodge the dreaded 3-putts - something he has struggled with mightily on his Break 75 Series efforts) 2) Rick, even being a long-time teaching pro, can still learn a few things while playing on the course. He flipped that little bit of grass up in the air early on trying to figure out what the wind was doing, and Bryson couldn't help himself but to tell him that was basically useless because it only told him what the wind was doing right where they were at, not at distance where it really mattered Great vid, and Bryson is awesome to take part in these things. Love to see how he manages himself around the course, and what he's thinking as he decides what to hit and how to hit it. Keep up the good work Rick!

    Love the videos, only part way through the episode but gotta make a call out - you need to replace the trusty blue 3 wood, I don't think I've seen you hit a good shot with it in the last 12 months. Would love to see an episode in the new year replacing old blue when all the new tech is out with a on course and in Sim trial. Anyway, keep up the awesome work Rick

    Great round Rick for a really hard course and going up against one of the best at the game. I love to see pro golfers play courses they’ve never played or help from their caddies, it’s like they’re on more a a level playing field when playing amateurs. I also love the GRUNT shots from Bryson when he really goes for it. The only thing I didn’t like, a TIE???? Should’ve at least been a regular play off or a closest to the pin. Loved the video though!

    Hi Rick, Merry Christmas. I've never commented on your videos before, but I have watched them for years now. You've helped me with grip, how to hit the driver, chipping- it's been great. Thank you. After years of watching, most of the Pro's tell you that the difference between low handicappers and Pro's are consistency. I believe that is partially true in your case. You are a very good golfer. I see you shoot consistently in the mid to lower 70's. I mean, that isn't bad at all. I believe the difference between you and the "next" level is your mental game and attitude after a bad shot. I watched you and all the Pro's- when they hit a poor shot they immediately are thinking what do I have to do to recover. But with you I see and hear you. You get so down because the shot wasn't perfect. It's golf man- :) You see the Pro's just go with the flow. I would venture that if you remained 100% positive - even on a poorly hit shot- you'd shave at least 5 shots off your round. That, if my math is correct, is about a 69-70 range. I know you have it in you. You are Rick Shiels!!! Keep up the great work. It's fantastic. Thanks.
