I love the idea of seeing flowers floating on water and the fact that it's beneficial, not just beautiful, makes me love this concept even more. Way to think outside of the box! We live in a small community lake area and I've been wondering about our fish and the water quality here. I may bring this up in our next meeting to see if there are any green thumb peeps that might like to try this on a really small scale here.

we are doing a similar project using native grasses and wetland plants. this helps with the "too wet" issue of the thin mats.

I would think you would have more success at pumping the water to an immediately nearby plant farm (with the similar but fixed hydroponic setup) & have the run-off go back to the river. have a tray for holding the water, gate that allows cleaned water to run back to source, then pump in new with frequency based on water quality target. Solar pumps for water transport, but unfortunately much higher capital costs and permitting required.

Roots need oxygen as well as leaves. How do these plant roots get oxygen if they are submerged?
