Can exercise help offset the risk of Alzheimer's?

Psychologist Dr. Kirk Erickson shares highlights from research showing the potential impact of moderate exercise on cognitive aging. Research has shown that the older adult brain retains the potential for plasticity, including hippocampal growth. Dr. Erickson shares why he is optimistic about recent studies, including one that showed older individuals who engaged in 12 months of moderate exercise were able to modify size and structure of brain mechanisms that typically deteriorate in late adulthood, offsetting changes that can be predictive of the onset of memory problems and brain disease.
