Can coilovers be softer than stock suspension? Let's find out! Driving two M2s back to back | 4K

The results were surprising! I was expecting for the B16 to get close to the stock, but I didn't think it will be that comparable. Considering that the car sat about 25mm lower than the stock car and the suspension had far less travel in it, I take my had off to Bilstein for achieving the adjustability. Got a set of these fitted to my F82 M4. Previously it had the mperformance HAS kit. There was basically no difference in lap time, all sectors were within a few hundredths and the overall lap was within a few tenths on a 2.40 lap. This was running the same tyres and brakes, similar dry track, although the brakes weren’t great so I think the car would go a touch quicker, but probably only about a second. The car doesn’t really feel any worse on the road but does feel so much better on track, it’s like I’ve taken a few hundred kg’s out of it. This probably sounds negative but I’m very happy with them so far, seem perfect for a car you don’t want to ruin for road use but still have a beautiful handling car on track. Very pleased I didn’t spend much more on a more expensive kit.

If you want a more softer / comfortable ride I’d recommend KW V3

@@MDrives you have driven the red M140 with KW V3 already and got the experience: The V3 is almost same on M140 and M2, at least the springs have exact the same spring rates The KW V3 is more compliant and more responsiveness on small bumps ( lil potholes in tower) compared to B14/B16 due to the twintube design of the KW. The monotube Bilstein damper always feel a bit harsh in town as the monotube damper is not very responsiveness. But on track etc the Monotube Bilstein damper work great, maybe even slightly better than the twin tube KW

This is a useful vid, thank you 🙏 I’m about to get a set of these, whether they make the car quicker on track remains to be seen but happy they won’t ruin it for the road 👍 Will find out soon what lap times it puts in and report back.

It surprised me when you said it felt similar to stock suspension on soft setting with a bit more compliance to the surface. I was expecting the b16 to be much more comfortable than the stock on soft setting. Anyway... I am wondering how it feels when drifting the car on b16, hard or soft setting, and how the suspension reacts to weight transfer, drift initiation, transition and exit. I throw my M2c sideways quite a bit, the stock suspension seems good at it, not perfect though.

Hi. I’m not a drifter but I slide is often. It says flat in medium setting so it worked perfectly when the weight transfers.

Thank you! B16 definitely will be my number one options if I decide to modify my suspension. I am not going to replace the stock suspension any time soon though. My plan is to replace it with aftermarket package when the stock suspension shows its age, having an oil leak or breakdown...I will keep my F87 for a long long time...20 years, 30 years or more, maybe...lol, as long as law and regulation still alow internal combustion engine to run @@MDrives

Stop it! I’m trying to convince myself, I don’t need to spend £2000+ on coil overs 😄😄 Did you have your geometry done at the same time? I’ve just had mine done and it made a huge difference 👌🏼
