Bob The Builder how did you do it? I have a 2008 with bad Vibrations I want to do the same but don’t know where to start.

@@troutslayerwyoming3236 a friend was supposed to fix mine . He took out the drive shaft going to the rear and couldnt get it back in so we left it out . It drives fine .

@@troutslayerwyoming3236 my carrier bearing was bad . Instead of buying the whole drive shaft allready put together . I just bought the bearing trying to save money . You have to take apart the drive shaft to get the bearing on . When my friend had the yoke pressed off it must have bent the yoke a little and he couldnt get it back together . I had intentions of fixing it but never got around to it . All that is removed is the drive shaft on mine so if the drive shaft is not your problem not sure if it would help you to remove it .

My 2007 Equinox LT AWD rear driveshaft just broke at the midshaft U joint. Removed the driveshaft and would like to drive. Have been finding differing opinions/answers as to being able to drive without the rear driveshaft.

my only suggestion to you would be to dismantle the rear cv joints and reinstall the ends as stub shafts to keep the wheel bearings happy. on some cars the bearings will fall apart without the axle installed. at the dealer we had dummy shafts made from old axles for when we had to move a car while waiting on parts.

roger oconnor I've ran into that on cavaliers in the past. I would pull motor and tranny out then move the car out from under the tripods. Just moving the car a few feet without cv's would trash them. On this model it's OK though, the bearings are the same part number for AWD and FWD. The non AWD have spines in the rear.

am happy i found your video. good video. but you didn't talk about leaving the diff on the truck and only removing the drive shaft. will such a move cause damage to the rear diff? actually my friend has a chevy traverse that's bind up when he is making a slow turn or even turning into his driveway. it feel like if the front wheels are locking up. he has to press the accelerator little bit harder to get the vehicle moving. and when he does so the front wheels will drag or skid. he has brand new front and rear axle. i figure he may be better off just removing the drive shaft.

There must be a viscous coupling somewhere. The front axle and rear axle will not always turn the same speeds, there needs to be some controlled slip somewhere.

I actually had to remove my transfer AWD case on my 2011 equinox, I removed the rear one and it does fine BUT if you do this you better watch when the road has puddles of water when it rains because it will give you a stroke when it hydroplanes

Bill Bell My 2005 Chevy Equinox developed rear end noise so I opted to remove the drive axles and fit new wheel hubs. There was no wiring to the differential unit so I never got any error messages (Traction Control or ABS). Perhaps the diff sensor is only on some models?

the rear also has a fluid level sensor that will disangage ur4wheel drive fyi

Good video since I’m trying to find any and all info I can concerning my Equinox rear end noise situation which I’ve been hearing a rattling ( thought it was shocks so I replaced them so then I assumed I’d check to see if it was the sway bar mounts and bushings... then I finally found that on passenger side the ( new less than a year ) cv axle shaft has a large 4 inch space in between shaft and rear differential.... I’ve just put so many new parts on it in the last year from front struts, back shocks and all new wheel hub assembly’s now this ....I feel hit so hard, I’m feel overwhelmed as I do all my maintenance on my own vehicle.... can you or anyone offer any suggestions to help me figure this out?? And why and how did this happen???

Was the rear differential make noise is that why you’re going with front wheel drive only

I got a 2014 equinox if I pull the rear driveshaft off the transmission to the rear axle can I still drive it until I get the new drive shaft and hanger bearing and not have to worry about oil leak out

Yes you can if it will do well if you weld the rear output shaft to the box so only the front output can turn

John Smith I peeled out that passenger tire on a chip and seal road. It doesn't take power away from front to put to rear. If you welded the shaft somethings going to break

william staten it doesn't have an open center diff?

Hi William I have a 2011 Acadia AWD .....service traction control warning is on (all the time) , underneath (top) side (at your 4:29 mark) there's a rectangular module (rubber)with 4 wires in it , one of the wires has corroded off and hangs there . My question is....can that rectangular boot be pulled out, and placed back in to reconnect the corroded wire? The corroded wire came off right at thhe top of the boot. Thanks

All you got to do is take the rear driveshaft out and I'll make it front wheel drive did many of them with no problem still running today

@@brentshehorn8347 Did you leave the 2 rear CV shafts to each rear wheel on or did you pull them out and the main driveshaft in center? My 2008 rear is thumping and each CV shaft feels loose where in goes into the rear diff so I was going to just remove the CV shafts and center shaft but I think I need to leave the outer shaft joint on each hub because the ABS toothed ring is on the CV joint. I was going to cut the band on the boot and pull off the shaft leaving just the final splined shaft in the rear hubs and wipe off the grease.

Are you familiar with a 07 Chevy equinox? I need to remove the transmission. Its an all wheel drive. I was told i had to drop the whole engine for that. Is that true?

I didn't. Put 4x4 across the engine bay and strap the engine to it. Remove sub frame.

Are u familiar with the chevy equinox Awd? My awd turned off I took it to the shop and they told me the automatic clutches are no longer working. Could I just replace the clutch or do I have to replace the whole rear differential?

Just go to a salvage yard and find a lower milage rear end. There plenty of used ones out there now.

@@mattgehrke I'm just looking at the whole picture. The next thing is it will be leaking out of all the seals like mine was.

I don't think it would go it you took drive shaft out. The way the power transmits to the transfer case from the diff case inside the trans and that right cv shaft couples in to the spider gear in the trans diff. I think that pinion out of the rear of the tranfercase would just spin backwards and it would not go forward.
