At the request of many, we decided to do a new test with the INDYCAR OVAL against the Ferrari F1 2023. This time, the Indycar had its gear ratio shortened, gaining much faster acceleration. Will this time Indycar Oval be able to take advantage of the long straights of Le Mans and beat a current F1?

Great simulation. The only thing that makes it unreal is the fact that in real life, LeClerc and Ferrari would have found a way to mess it up.

Thing is, the F1 is a car made for annihilating tracks. Here, it won at Le Mans against an Indy Oval... If you haven't already, might I suggest: "What car an Indy Road can beat around Nürburgring? F4, F3, F2, Superformula and F1"I reckon it might be a good video :)

My bet is that F2 & SF would spank it. It would probably be too much for F3. And I love to get LMP1 and LMH1 in the mix too.

Closer than I thought, but you did take out the chicanes. The IndyCar is clearly faster in a straight line. But without the downforce, and with the racing hard compound, it's got no chance once it needs to turn. What about a CART car? VRC Formula NA 1999 mod? Those things were capable of much higher top speeds.

to be honest, I can blame the small difference on the AI.. Lost A TON of time during the best part for the F1 because it didn't want to make aggressive moves.. so it stayed a whole sector being the slow Indy . Just my opinion, can be wrong..

the f1 with the drs open which only does 311 kmh is somewhat unreal, with a set-up at minimum aerodynamic load and with the drs the f1 would easily reach top speeds very very close to those of the indicar, therefore the gap would be much greater.

@@alexanderkaatz3184The AI in this game really leaves a bit to be desired. In the mulsanne, for example, the AI takes too long to decide whether to exceed the F1 or not, it is braking behind the vacuum of the F1.

Ferrari F1 has a top of 311 in the video. Lol. In reality they would change the gearbox for such a circuit of course.

ok the simulation, but the maximum speed of the f1 is too low considering the drs, 311 kmh 2:02 seems too unreal even considering that it is a simulation.

Yeah the f1 could hit at least 360 km/h on such a long straight tbf with a bit less downforce setup, and indycar can touch 400

Yeah, on Spa yesterday they were doing like 339 on the straights. On a track with such long straights, they’d clearly run a setup that also gets them into this ballpark, likely even faster.

I agree. If i recall correctly, Raikkonen forced someone into making a mistake when he was barreling down towards him at 360+kph with drs open. I forgot which track it was. It might be monza.

Fun to watch. But, you can't compare these in any way. They are each built to different specifications so will always perform different. LeMans is a really different animal too in that fast is good but finishing is required. I think the F1 cars would self destruct after far fewer laps than the Indycar without a doubt. Current F1 spec tires would also explode after just a few laps as would Indycar road tires. But maybe I;dycar oval tires would stand a chance. And my biggest issue when F1 fans (that don't follow Indycar) make these comparisons is they always say "the F1 car / team would bring this or that so it would have to win everything." (Of course "this or that" doesn't usually actually exist and would have to be Dr signed, manufactured and tested.) The problem is if any other series were allowed (or could lay hands on) the same budget they could too. The same is true for any sport. If an American football (soccer) team is up against virtually any European team they loose. Or if any baseball team from anywhere in the world is up against an America professional team they loose. The resources available are totally different and arguably ruin everything. Cycling on an amateur level is even worse. You can ride and even race virtually anything. But the difference between competitive kit and what is affordable is staggering. A rideable, even quick, bike will cost north of $2k. A fast bike will have wheels that cost close to that much. A kid with great talent will usually win anyway but it will be just that much harder than it should.

Thats just how motorsport its made, faster cars will have better results, slower car will have worse results, a quick driver will be put in a fast car, a slow one in a slower car
F1 car literally toyed with the Indy car. Left it in its dust in the beginning and then let it catch up and pass it and then went and took the win. This shows how much faster F1 cars are than Indy cars. Actually a good video.

There was no "toying with" or "letting the Indycar catch up" . The F! car accelerates faster, brakes later and more abruptly, and is quicker through turns. The Indycar is faster at top speed. These difference explain why the F1 car led at the start and finish, but the Indycar led after straight sections. As for faster over the length of a road course, the F! car will beat the Indycar every time. On an oval, the order would be reversed.
Not really a good comparison, the f1 would have up geared for the track and give it less wing to make it go faster, and then switch to using top power mode .

What about rolling start? Standing start benefits clearly F1 car, but Le Mans is currently rolling.

Just sayin'': Did you notice that the F-1 Chopped the corners (thereby lower times) than the IndyCar. Did you also notice that the Ferrari flowed out wider in EVERY corner? Regardless of the results the test was flawed on THAT ALONE.

Chopped the corners or not, Ferrari would win anyway. This test is just to satisfy my curiosity and that of many people about how close the Indycar OVAL can get to F1 on a track full of long straights.
Indy Oval spec car is only designed to turn left. There is no real chance to handle well enough to win on a road course.

The idea was not to make Indycar win, but to see how close it could get to an F1 on a circuit with the longest straights in the world.
in real life, both wouldn't make it because the long straights would kill both engines
if you took a 20 year old Indycar, it would beat modern F1...and look and sound better too..

The F1 car went terribly slow. My WR with the latest version of Formula Hybrid 2023 is 2:52. And that was my third lap. In any case, the F1 car can do quite a few seconds better than this (even with a standing start).

It lost a lot of time throught the Porsche curves as the Indycar was holding him up. Also, the tyres would have been cold throughout the first sector, so it would have probably lost around 10 seconds.

@@potatogirlcultist19 The tyres are warmed up by tyre blankets in Assetto Corsa. I was talking especially about straight line speed. The car can do over 350.

@@jakubkrcma It probably is setup related then. One of the cars has to be controlled by AI, and can't have the setup changed. If the wings were setup for a mid downforce track like Silverstone or Interlagos, then it would make sense that the speed would not go over 350.

@@jakubkrcma I think he ran out of KERS. F1 cars from F1 2014 onwards only make around the same power as an Indycar without it. And with De La Sarthe being incredibly demanding on the KERS system, it is most likely he ran out of it at around the Mulsanne hairpin (the turn after the 5km straight). However, the car should be able to reach a maximum of about 330 without the KERS with a low downforce setup.
top speed on that ferrari is wrong, it was cutting off at 310-11... in reality f1 cars can reach 350 easily. ham's mercedes did 349 at mexico gp. bottas topped at 362. in 2006, salt lake flats special test done on honda f1, at 390 officially (both way record) but in one run, one way, they reached 413KMH! Even today's draggy cars, easily reach 350kmh easily. if they did low drag setup, i m sure they can easily do 370-380s officially easily on lemans... that indy pesky car would be like 15-20 sec behind by the end of each lap consistently! thats very generous estimate! realiability is also top notch on f1 cars. so without any accident or tyre blow up, there is no good or easy or fair match between these two. f1 will annihilate indy any day! while indy cars can sustain 5g during cornering, they do so in ovals. F1 cars do that kind of g force on flat corners! indy has 1.5g acceleration, while f1 does 2g. f1 cars do brake hard and also receive 5g forces. also f1s typically get 4-6g cornering on flat surfaces, while indy has to rely on inclination of oval corners to not fly off! as i said earlier. there is no fair comparison between the two. at cota gp track, f1 cars go around 15-18 sec faster than indy cars! and that is a short circuit.

If I'm not mistaken, the Ferrari surpassed the speed you mentioned in Mulsanne at times. However, the AI settings were actually a little strange for the car, but that has since been fixed.

The truth is the F1 will beat the Indycar on any track.... it just has to be set up for that track. It is a superior racing machine. With that said I do enjoy watching a race were the default cars can compete. Thanks for posting.

When there are no established DRS zones like at Le Mans, the AI opens DRS on all straights by default.
One more time. Never Indy will win F1.
The physics are all wrong. With that little downforce they’d have been crawling around Dunlop and Porsche. Then handily removing the chicanes just panders to Indy strengths and is not the current layout.

The 2023 F1 car can take Dunlop and Porsche at well over 300 km/h (186 mph). Not exactly crawling. A massive portion of downforce is generated by the floor. The wings just add to that.

@@hellolol5388 And do you think that indys are not limited? with 600 CV they achieve speeds of 400 km/h in qualy for indy500. If they use maximum power they would reach 450 easily.
Top speed of F1 car at Mexico is over 350kph. This is not a true reflection of a f1 car. Still liked it though

This time it seems more realistic for the Indy car compared to last video. But if the f1 car can use drs than shouldn’t the Indy car be able to use unlimited push to pass since that’s indy cars version of what drs achieves in f1. Also the indy car shouldn’t be limited in speed based off of the gearing unless u have more gears u weren’t using to keep the indy cars speeds more realistic. Either way a huge improvement but your still way off from actually setting up the cars.

removed the chicanes, track is pretty much a big straight line, still not enough to beat the F1. F1 gained 3.7 secs in just a couple of corners lmao. Tells you all you need to know.
If you leave all the chicanes, then INDY has no chance at all!

That Indy is terribly slow in the corners because it only generates 1.2 tons of downforce. Now, in this simulation it barely reached 242 mph on a very long straight. On the Indianapolis oval, in qualifying, they slightly exceed 243 mph in top speed. In a straight line with 650 HP it would reach 250 mph and if we use all the available power, 700 HP, they would exceed those 250 mph with ease. The F1, being so loaded, would be much slower, it would barely reach 218 mph.
