Can an Amateur Golfer Break 90 at the 2022 Dell Match Play? FRONT 9
Спорт
Have you ever wondered what a single-digit handicapper would shoot from the tips on a PGA tournament layout? On this installment of Break 90, Erik Anders Lang takes on Austin Country Club days before the WGC-Dell Match Play in Austin, TX. He's playing from the tips and the course is in tournament condition.

I know EAL hates these vids, but the breaking 90 series is the best content RGC puts out.

Honestly they're probably the best content BECAUSE he hates them. Schadenfreude at its best.

It's also pretty much the only content. Not sure why Eric doesn't do more videos, he's really cut down on content from the early days with his friend from Scotland.

"I am so glad i am not dead " I have this swing thought daily :) I beat cancer and rehab using golf. At least once a round I think that and a crisp long iron can be one of the most gratifying feelings! Proud of you for your 21 years sober! Golf is the only drug anyone needs ;)

@@FUZexHITMANx11 Very sorry for your loss :( I just got my 1st clean PET Scan a few weeks ago. But as anyone who has been touched by this monster know that it is a life long fight. From the pain of loss to the physical repercussions of the treatments it never ends. Rediscovering the game of golf after 15+ years has pushed my recovery farther then me or my doctor could of ever hoped for ! Best of luck to you my friend! Next time ya go out and play a round don't forget to have fun and hit a few good shots ;) because ya know mom is watching

Agreed. I am not sober (fire) but golf helped beat cancer on the good days.
22:00 I watch this for a couple reasons. 1. It’s reassuring watching an amateur play a legitimate Tour track. 2. Erik’s drip never disappoints. It’s just so good.
We all need this caddy in our lives... not just for a round of golf either - the guy's positivity is infectious!
16:52 Ace CAM text reverses looking back towards the tee box. This is the quality editing that the internet just doesn't deserve. Bravo.
The reaction to hearing it is a Dye course is priceless.
Dude can roll the freaking rock! Can’t wait for the back 9 vid. Loved helping out and being your golf Sherpa on your quest to break 90 that day

Legend!
Besides EAL & the actual golf, I watch for the pure beauty of the production value of these videos. The stunning drone shots of these gorgeous courses. The top-shelf graphics (original colourways on the hole info; insanely well-done shot tracers; the reverse "Ace Cam"; the eye of Sauron, etc). The excellent and fitting musical choices. All in stunning 4K. This is the main reason I watch. RGC really captures the beauty of the game in these. Bravo to the team behind it all. 👏✌

I watch your attempt(s) to break 90 for the same reason I go out to the course again after a shitty round. I have to believe it’s possible that today will be better than yesterday. I’ll keep watching as long as you keep putting the great content into the universe.
The caddie is matching the RGC vibe to a tee here!

I watch because I often wonder how different the game is between my local golf club and a tour setup. Loves these Breaking 90 videos! Keep up the good work Eric!
We watch the video because the struggle is real. Golf is hard but also reflects life you just need one good shot or one bit of luck to meet you think the outcome will be brighter. Much love from Scotland
One of the reasons I love these break 90s (or all of the course vlogs in general) is the escapism factor. Like, I probably won't be able to play high level golf at all of these "exotic" tour level courses all over the country, but I can watch EAL play and have fun and experience it from his unique pov, and for me, that's worth the watch.
EAL, we watch these because you are the coolest guy in golf! Also, for whatever reason, you make me feel like I'm there hanging out on the course with you. And I like hanging out on every one of these Break 90 vids. Its chill, its fun, its relatable, its connection. Keep them coming please!
That eye of mordor was a good touch
I watch because golf is calming to me, doesn’t have to be amazing… those amazing rounds and shots come around randomly and that’s what keeps us comin back.
Love this series ❤️ truly one of the best. Keep it up. You are inspiring a new generation of golfers!
The recurring soundtrack theme during the flyovers reminds me of Bon Jovi’s blaze of glory… the internal battles during a round of golf are just unbelievable. and watching your battles are - don’t get me wrong - very entertaining. and the courses you are able to show us, FANTASTIC!
Erik, the reason why I love to watch the breaking 90 series is for numerous reasons, but mainly it reminds me of how fun and frustrating golf can be all at the same time. Watching you periodically struggle with certain parts of your game, but continue to strive for good scores regardless is inspiring. I can’t relate to pros, but I can relate to a good golfer who likes to have a good time on the course, but who also takes the game serious enough to always want to play his best. When you chunder it’s hilarious, and when you’re crushing it it’s awesome. Thank you!
Love the perspective these videos give on how difficult of conditions these TOUR players compete in, very humbling as a bogey golfer
Love these!! Happy to see the series back!
I keep watching because it’s so relatable, there are highs and lows and that’s what keeps me coming back.
What an insane contrast between fairway/green and rough. Makes for stunning images that's for sure. Never experienced anything like it in my life so far.
Erik looks like he’s about to drop the hottest country and western album of the year at any moment, loving it
Love the Breaking 90 videos! And at a course just around the street from me is extra cool. Hopefully Eric can finally beat the Pete Dye curse.
I watch this because it’s really amazing to watch someone live their dream, also because you are a much better golfer than me and I hope to play better! Love the videos thank you for what you do.
Love this series! Shoutout Simon for making this look so good!
Watching because of your love for the game. It’s contagious and more watchable than most PGA rounds
What a great way to get hyped for the golf season!! Golf is back!
I'm watching this video because i appreciate your personality and the way you look at things in life 😁 keep up the good works 😄
Man somehow I missed this when it came out but just seeing Erik back out there on such an awesome course made me instantly happy. And as always, the RGC crew just nailed it with the cameras and edits. The 5G one 😂
I watch because your humor and for living vicariously through your adventures on these iconic courses.
The Eye of Sauron saw that 7-iron but Erik didn't
Gratz on 21 years man!! Thanks for that moment. Good stuff.
Was just thinking yesterday that it’s been a long minute since Ive seen a EAL video. Arrived on a Monday. Love it
As a fellow addict, I appreciate you and all the content you upload. I just discovered you aswell as my new found love for golf. My first set of clubs arrive on April 11th which is my birthfday and also 1 year sober day! I am so excited to enjoy this wonderful sport, become more active and have a great personality like yourself. Thankyou sir. Love from England
Congrats on 21 years. What an accomplishment. Sick video as always!!!!
Above average golfer playing tour level courses before the events themselves. That’s why we watch, EAL! Keep ‘Em coming!!
because this the game i play everytime i get out to the course, and learn the things to do and not do. I love hearing the caddy feedback as well.
I watch these to see the experiences you get at all these amazing courses. I am travelling one day to northwood gc because of you n the rgc crew. These are amazing videos!
It’s nice to see a golfer I can compare/relate to playing these unbelievable courses that I will never get to play on. Love the show, keep on doing you.
Fantastic golf content aside - absolutely loving the music in this vid, especially the guitar during the flyovers 👍🏻
I watch because the content is very relatable, its fun. And the jokes are good. Keep ‘em coming
Love these. Looking forward to the next Breaking series too!
After a long consideration I came to the conclusion that I watch it solely because it’s relatable. And it makes me wanna get out and enjoy life and play golf! Cheers from Sweden 🇸🇪
I watch because I enjoy it for one, also because you’re an everyday player like us and it’s easy to relate to. Plus I can’t wait see you break 90!! I’ll be celebrating too!
The production quality for youtube is unmatched
We love watching this series because it puts to test the “I bet I could do that” theory/delusion we all have watching the pros play. We appreciate you enduring the pain for our entertainment. It just doesn’t get any better than Breaking 90!
That caddy is the perfect amount of hype man. Some people don’t like it, but he is just encouraging enough, just critical enough, and plenty positive.
Thank God Breaking 90 series are back! Love them
We enjoy this series so much because you embody most of us. We can generally play golf, but we don't have enough time to invest in order break that next barrier. Double bogeys seem to sneak onto our score cards, but we also sprinkle in some birdies to offset them.
The production value of these is always top notch!
So happy this is back! Peeping that fresh bag tag. 😍
I've been waiting for more of this series.
Thought this was an old video for a second. Glad Erik decided to do break 90 video these are a must watch!
i watched it because i love golf and your channel is very well put together and the videos are great!
This is one of my favorite courses outside of the regular "bucket list" courses...
why am i watching this? i;m currently in Ghana, Africa on a 6month internship, surrounded by people i only met on saturday the 19th. golf, and these videos, feel like home. golf is a familiar old friend. looking forward to being rusty when i get home and laughing at the terrible shots again. thanks for your work RGC
Responding to the “why would you watch this video” statement while at that point in the video. I watch because I love seeing someone play well as an amateur. Just played my first tournament and found out that I apparently don’t do as well as my hcp when playing in a tournament. So seeing you out there doing decently well on a difficult course (surrounded by cameras) gives me hope. Doing great EAL. Keep ‘em coming brother.
we love a break 90, been waiting on one for awhile now, never fails to disappoint
Because I LOVE EAL’s vibe and atmosphere and love his attitude towards playing golf! Always inspires me to get out there
I watch because I think some of us fellow self-depricating golf sickos love to get beat up every once in a while by a tough golf course. Sometimes a 90-95 shot round feels more deserved than a 80-85 shot round at an easy ballpark. Add in EAL's charisma and PGA Tour courses that most of us haven't played and you have a great story to watch.
“Here’s a crazy move…” Shot #2 on 9 is the most relatable of the whole first episode, when a planned low baby draw turns into a high flying fade! Love that EAL had that idea and went for it, that’s why we play.
I watch when I can’t afford to play. I live vicariously though you. Your bad and good shots just like I would do. Thanks for the content man.
Loved that you guys played poison. Great game for waiting on the tee box

Q: Why do you watch this video? A: Something relaxing and enjoyable about watching EAL play a round of golf. 🤷🏻♂️ A(ii) The sheer quality of the production is very satisfying to watch. Keep up the good work.
This video is epic! The course looks sooo mint too.
Absolutely enjoying the Texas blues music backing this video
Watching because these are great!! And we want to play the course!
I am watching this because I have the exact same thought process through a round, it’s beautiful. “Golf is the closest game to the game we call life. You get bad breaks from good shots; you get good breaks from bad shots - but you have to play the ball where it lies” - Bobby Jones
here for EAL in that musical golf masterpiece 🤟🏼❤️
I watch these videos because I identify with you and your game... It's realistic and I feel accompanied in this golf adventure, so thanks for that
I'm currently on my journey to breaking 90. Hearing you talking about 17b and seeing you get frustrated but still laugh and tease yourself about your shots has helped me curve my attitude on the course. Keeping W.W.E.A.L.D. in my mind on the course haha you should make bracelets. I'd buy one. 😂
We watch t for the honesty!! Big love to the RGC team!
Glad you are back!
EAL, we watch because you’re playing at a professional venue in tournament conditions from the pro tees. I have zero business doing that but it would still be a dream come true. Love the breaking series, my new favorite KZread content
Love these videos because as another “OK golfer” it’s interesting to see a tour setup and one of us try to score. Don’t think folks realize how difficult these courses are setup for a test of golf at the highest level. But when things go bad, just blame Pete.
Watching because I tee off in 2 hours and the real-ness of these course vlogs reminds me to just have fun.
Congrats on 21 years sober!!! Love watching you do these Break 90 episodes!
I frickin love these breaking 90's series on championship courses
It's so nice to see someone on KZread who plays the back tees and play like me. Of course I'm old and play the forward tees.
Love the content, think it's a fascinating idea, plus EAL's like stream of consciousness always cracks me up! Keep em coming they're the best!
its 11:19pm im on youtube looking for something to help me fall asleep. watching you play golf is calming and relatable
I only watch the playing videos that Erik plays himself for this channel, watchable is the perfect adjective. Can't believe I missed him when he came to my local track
I enjoy this series not because of EAL’s golf game (even though I cheer his triumphs and feel his lows), but because he is BY FAR person in the golf media space that I could see myself playing a few enjoyable rounds with. Watching someone I could hang/golf with go out sand attack these monster courses makes for awesome content.
I watch because PGA venues are beautiful and it's fun to see how a player I relate to struggles on these humbling challenges.
Why.... 1) to see unbelievable golf courses at their best 2) to see your interaction with the group 3) high and lows & 4) waiting for those great shots that show up in every round !! - Keep it up Guys
the Breaking 90 series is superb content. In my mind it is a mixture of all of the scenes of The Big Lebowski with Sam Elliot and ESPN rolled up into one intimately delivered performance by EAL. From casual tempo swings to humanistic dives into EAL's sobriety--this is just so real. Keep hating the series, Eric. and I'll keep on loving it.
I watch the videos because I love seeing what an average golfer can do on a tour course. It just fascinates me. Last but not least you’re a good dude and I respect that
I watch you because you are one of the most interesting subscriptions I have on KZread, and you play some beautiful courses.
I appreciate that question. I actually just subscribed partially because you asked that question. The reason I’m currently watching this video is I appreciate the slightly longer format golf of every shot with the distances up on screen. I appreciate the small talk to me as well. It’s almost like ASMR but it’s not. I guess it can be. Only other KZreadr I enjoy watching in this slightly longer format is Kyle Berkshire; you’re definitely playing a lot more like the average golfer. Thanks for the content.
IMO the break 90 is still the best golf series on the internet. Especially playing the courses that that pros play a week before they play it :)
"Why are you watching this?" My answer would be I just finished all the Breaking Series and the Scotland Diaries and loved it all! Plus, I am slowly getting back into golf every since my high school days and enjoy seeing a AUTHENTIC average golfer play and talk about his game from a humbling state of mind. Thank you for all you do!
Another epic video. EAL back swinging the sticks is what the people want to see. Where those Nike AirMax golf shoes or just some regulars? Either way whole outfit from EAL and the caddy were certified fire!!! 🔥🔥🔥
