Can Am Renegade 1000 vs Yamaha Raptor 700

Ойын-сауық

I'm finally back on the Raptor! It's been almost 3 weeks since I fell off at Appleton and it was a blast to ride again! Thankfully my injury has healed as fast as it has.
This video features the long awaited drag races with the Renegade. I've been wanting to line these quads up on pavement for awhile and it was cool to see how they compared. This video also features my first ride on a Kawasaki V-Force 700!
Check out my Website! www.petehager.com/
The Raptor and Renegade both have Power Commanders and an exhaust upgrade for power mods.

One of the few atv videos that I actually enjoy watching. Almost every renegade video I have seen so far there always trying to sink it in muddy water, talking about how they blew a bunch of money on it or comparing it to a scrambler, it's nice to see a video of some people going out and having fun and talking about these machines and not deliberately destroying them. That's how I like to ride👍 plus not sticking in a bunch of background music in the video.

Lol chain jumped off the rear sprocket and binded around the case saver and the sudden impact of it stopping so bluntly caused the output shaft to break in the transmission as well as some of the casings on the inside around the bearing to chip off smh. I got married last Sept so I didn't have the money to even think about taking it to figure out what was wrong becuz of the wedding cost and having to take care of bills wherein my wife moved down from Connecticut and had to find a job, so about 3 weeks ago I just found out what all was going on with it. Oh and yeah I have a 2005 ltz 400, with a 434 cylinder works big bore kit, stage 2 hot cams, kibblewhite valves and springs, head ported and polished, tm 40 pumper carb with a 450 trx fuel customs air intake, full system exhaust with hmf pipe, dynatek ignition coil, dynatek rev box, and 15/39 gearing! I grew up on sports. Specifically the beloved 400EX. Every time I venture away from them I always come back. I almost bought a Renegade until I ran across a old scrambler 400 2 stroke. I saved a ton of money and man that old 2 stroke is wicked fun!! It strikes a good balance between sport and 4 wheel drive. If you ever get a chance definitely try one. Just a few upgrades make the old 2 stroke absolutely RIP. Just a pipe upgrade puts it at the same HP as a 700 raptor...around 48hp. But the old 2 smoker is easily capable of 60+hp.

Awesome man! It's definitely important to consider your terrain and who you ride with! If a lot of your buddy's are on 4x4's it may make more sense to go that route. The main reason I have the raptor is because it's lighter and slides around pretty easy compared to an IRS machine. I hope to have both someday though! that would be crazy fun!

@@jerridandmanda As much as I agree with you, especially comparing Yamaha to a Can am, utilitarian quads are better in my opinion. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Sport quads are great for racing and trail riding. (Going fast I’m general) They can’t go through mud, or be utilized though. As for utility quads, they too can race, but of course not as good as a sport quad. They can go through mud, and pull heavy loads. I would always go for a utility quad in my opinion. Just more practical. Considering I have a Yamaha Grizzly 700 SE, the thing will last me forever. Them Can Am’s, not so much. Bad reliability. Conclusion: Sport quads are for most who love racing, trail rides etc. but not so practical. Utility quads are for most who want to do a little bit of everything. Pulling, racing (kinda), going through mud, etc.

@@Anonymouso283 I do a lot of mud riding on my little LTZ 400 sport quad. You have to pick your lines and hit the mid hard. Ground clearance is the only problem so you just can't go in any deep holes. I'm debating on getting a can am 850 but I really like riding the sport quad especially with the front end coming up in 1st 2nd and 3rd.

You've to remember the weight difference between the two. Had the renegade rider been the same weight as you... you'd be in the dust man tbh. You can tell the renegade is the faster quad from the roll. DIG runs are of who can get off the line faster. Roll races help eliminate rider issue with just pure power. Great video man. I enjoyed it.

Thanks for watching it 😊 I knew people would be critical because Mike and I are quite a bit different in weight. I had thought about switching machines but I thought it was obvious that the Renegade was faster, especially with him on it. Some people take this too seriously and in all reality you rarely run machines like this on the trail. Both machines are very similar in speed and acceleration yet so drastically different in design. I hope to own a renegade someday!

I had a 05 Yamaha YFZ450 SE when it was new and these big displacement 4x4 quads started to get popular. I pulled up to the dirt drag strip at Busco Beach and there was this huge, automatic can-am sitting there. They dropped the flag, I pulled the wheel through the first two gears and all I could see was him on his back two wheels straight walking away from me. I knew what they were after that day lol. Shit straight embarrassed me and that 450 was walking raptors on the regular. I thought this was gonna be an easy win and he shut me down lol.

Both are limited by front end lift. I have an outlander 800, even on dirt I cant just pin the throttle if traction is merely decent. It will lift the front tires immediately. On asphalt it's even more pronounced. This 1000 Renegade makes more power than mine, and weighs a bit less, so it is absolutely going to be a fight to keep the front tires down when accelerating hard. The Rotax v-twins are really potent and snappy powerplants. The way they move around a 700lb machine is pretty incredible.

If you rewatch the vids you can hear how he's on the power absolute with that cvt transmission. That's a tough race when you have to bang gears. That's where an auto shift interrupt or air shifter comes into play to get every bit as close to efficient as the automatic.
