In November 2022, University of Idaho students, Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Madison Mogen were found stabbed to death in the small American college town of Moscow, Idaho. It is the town's first homicide in seven years.
Finding no forced entry into the house, the investigation fails to bring up any obvious suspects, with the police unable to find a motive for the quadruple murders.
Soon, true crime sleuths and internet detectives started digging for information, posting their own theories online. The case racked up nearly two billion views on TikTok worldwide.
@zaranicolemcdermott , like millions of people all over the world, became obsessed with the case and scoured social media looking for clues and theories as to what happened.
Zara heads to Moscow to find out how much of what she saw online was even real, and how much was pure speculation. Here, she meets Jonathan Lee Richards, a self-proclaimed investigative reporter and true crime sleuth who has built a large following from filming hours of content around this case.

?! That’s not his right to harass people that have been found innocent. I’m pretty sure if the shoe was on the other foot, he’d be bleating that ‘people are innocent until proven guilty’. I’m not aware of this case, I’ll look it up after, but my point still stands that you have to be a very sick & deranged individual to harass and stalk boyfriends, ex boyfriends & family members when they would’ve been questioned AT LENGTH over the horrific murders of their loved ones. Of course they’d lock down their social media accounts? Why on earth would they want to be continuously hounded by nobodies when all they want to do is grieve privately & attempt to move on with their lives?! They don’t owe anyone but the police & the family of the victims an answer as to where they were at the time. I was all for anyone being an amateur sleuth - within reason, but absolutely not when it comes to harassing people that have already been extensively questioned and eliminated from enquiries. The fact he feels entitled enough to believe he should know everyone else’s business is astounding to me. We’ll see how long the police put up with it.

With each case comes balance, not everyone can demonstrate that.

This is VERY odd...this reporter is clearly extremely obsessive and not mentally well. She's living in a sense of imagination. Listening to her and what she say's is not normal. This is the problem, especially with women. Addicted to social media is making them obsessive and unable to separate online and really....scary and easily programmed

Quite ironic that dudes opening statement of be honest given a quick search of his name two years ago revealed an array of past crimes by him, I know cos back when the Idaho 4 first happened & he was making videos on it on KZread so I wondered if he had an ig, searched & was met with mugshots galore, if I remember rightly fraud, maybe harassment too & I’ve never watched him since.

JLR has an amazing ability to find information. I claim that he is identical triplets to be everywhere at once. He can be a bit tone deaf in his searches but he is not an aggressive guy. He is open about his felonias past. He is concerned for the victims. So many of these crimes DO involve family members. I think he is great. Glad to have him.
