    Over a year in remission now of Ulcerative Colitis, thanks to a fiber rich plant based diet. Once in remission, I added cold showers, eating only twice a day, and running and then I could stay in remission. I am now healthier than I have ever been in my whole life. I am training to run a marathon in the fall!

    I have IBS and I just wanna say that although believe plant based is the best diet for healthy people, for folks with IBS it might need some tweaking. I've struggled with IBS for pretty much my whole life. Used to eat meat and less fiber, switched to high fiber plant based diet and after 2 months, so not early on, and my digestive system has had plenty of time to adjust, but I've just had a really bad flare up of my IBS. Lost a lot of weight over just a few days, was feeling terrible in every way. And you know what helped ? Changing my diet a little to avoid high fodmap foods. I eliminated things like beans which were supposed to be super good for me, and wheat products. Switched to sour dough bread. No more yellow bananas, watermelon, apples. No garlic which I used in powder and would add to every meal because I wanted the variety and it was supposed to be healthy and great for me. You get the idea. I also reintroduced small amounts of chicken for more protein and nutrients and I'm slowly recovering and regaining weight, and energy to function really. Predominantly plant based, moderate fiber, moderate protein, low-ish fat diet without any high fodmap foods is what seems to be working for me.

    My daughter has EDS with low motility too! We’re now off miralax & thanks to recent podcast w Dr B on Rich Roll I learned about magnesium oxide for constipation. It has been working wonderfully. I found capsules on Amazon, inexpensive. We are finding two capsules at 420 mg each per night to be gently effective. But let’s ask questions in their next Q&A because we need info on gut health with connective tissue disorders where the constipation is basically mechanical due to low motility.

    I have sibo and leaky gut. Should i eat the FODMAPs to heal my gut? Or do I still avoid them? I can’t find any information on that. I’m confused because I’d be feeding the microbiome in my small intestine.

  • @Magnulus76

    @Magnulus76

    2 жыл бұрын

    Don't avoid them altogether. Reintroduce them slowly over a period of weeks, as much as you can tolerate. The easiest fiber to start out with is soluble fiber in oats, and oats are also anti-inflammatory. Fruit is also good, like green bananas. I had pretty bad IBS-C and that's what I did after watching Dr. Angie Sadeghi talk about IBS. I also watched alot of Gojiman's videos on IBS and SIBO. I took acacia gum dissolved in water as a prebiotic supplement along with eating oatmeal at first. After about a month of eating a restricted diet of low FODMAP foods with supplemental acacia gum and probiotics (a little kombucha every day), I started reintroducing FODMAPs in small amounts and found they really didn't bother me anymore unless I ate them in quite large amounts. I did the FODMAPS diet off and on for almost eight years and it never improved my symptoms to the point I wasn't eating a restrictive diet, and I was dealing with gut hypersensitivity alot. Herbal antibiotics also didn't work very well.

    @@karenduey9675 Unfortunately the FODMAP's diet restricts alot of foods that are helpful for restoring the gut microbiome. I think you'll get better results if you take motility regulating drugs or herbs, too, because good regularity is important for restoring gut health. I recommend checking out Gojiman's channel as he is a vegan nutritionist that has dealt with SIBO. He has alot of good advice. I am doing a stool test through Ombrelabs. I'm still awaiting the results.
