Honestly that gear part is what keeps me from riding more than anything. I can't tell you how many times ive though to myself "man I wanna ride the bike there" but then thought "ugh but that means i'd have to put pants on" xD

If money's the reason for only having a motorcycle, then you don't have to spend a lot of money on a car if you're not gonna use it a lot. Of course, repairs are expensive on a $1500 civic for example, but not as expensive as depreciation of a $5000 or more car if you're only gonna use the car 1-4 times a month. In my opinion, having a motorcycle and a super cheap car would likely be cheaper than having only a reliable car and also people wouldn't think you're crazy for taking your motorcycle instead of your car everywhere. Currently I don't have a car at the moment because it feels cool to only have a bike, but everyone has their own desires.

I do. Rain, cold, or both is no match for good gear. Rain gear is essential. Frogtogs top and nylon pants cover with boot zipper. Good gloves for cold (I use Ironclad brand), extra large size leather jacket made for winter with snap on hood and zipper wind flap with a few sweaters for underneath.

I’ve thought about it. Hate to admit it, but when it comes to cars, I can’t drive for shit. I think maybe I just never got used to how big they are? 🤷🏻‍♂️ At least I’ve never been in a “real” accident.

Do you think getting a motorcycle as my first vehicle would be an absolutely horrible idea? I know that it would be super dangerous, since I’ll still be super new to driving, and motorcycles are way more dangerous. Do you think I could compensate for my lack of road experience by putting more time into practicing or something? This is something that I really want to do, but it seems like it’s probably not a wise decision. If there’s any way to make it work, I’ll do it.

It's definitely possible (many places in the world use scooters/motorcycles as primary vehicles), but it's going to be *a lot* to learn at once - road vigilance, traffic patterns, motorcycle muscle memory, laws, etc If you can take a MSF course and then spend a few hundred miles in local neighborhoods building the muscle memory until it's second nature, you could probably do it, but I wouldn't want to be learning the muscle memory while also learning how driving really works (adapting to real world behaviors that don't necessarily match the law/textbooks)

Do you have to split? I wanna get a motorcycle but of course I wanna live. I wanna have a motorcycle but it’s not like if I die I wanna die on a cycle, I don’t wanna die or not go fast. I wanna ride it while I’m still in school because I want to become a pilot, and once I’m flying won’t really need a car that much.

Full gear everytime is completely overrated. Learning to manage risk better instead of maximizing safety can be a healthy balance.
