Stuff rags in the crankcase opening when you are fitting pistons , saves anything disappearing down there .

Hey great video! I learned so much from it. My dad was working on a 1983 yamaha DT100 Enduro and I kind of took it on myself after he passed. Could you maybe do a video on the wiring for the bike?

It's great to see you working on my bike's wee brother! I was lucky that the exhaust on my DT3 was clear and in reasonable order. When I first got it running, it was jerky, it was traced to a faulty source coil, I couldn't source one! I eventually got a kit to convert it to electronic ignition and 12v electrics. Before I converted it I nearly got a broken ankle and I was afraid to kickstart it! Now it starts easily and runs well. The clutch sticks if it's not ridden regularly, what I do is put it into gear and rock it back and forward, it soon frees off.

@@SpecialisedMotorcycleTransport also the TY100’s share the same parts part from the lighting side. A good guy for spares on old trials bikes is a place called Allen spares in Rushden northants area. If he doesn’t have what you need he will probably know where to point you to get them.

Stick a hole saw down the exhaust and then fish the remains out and fit a new baffle.

I think to change the timing the whole back plate turns. Normally 3 screws on slotted holes.

  • @Muscleupsanddangles

Incorrect. The timing on these bikes is adjusted via adjusting the point gap.

  • @chrisktm2010

@@Muscleupsanddangles I think you will find that the timing is done on the back plate, from memory the specs are points gap is 0.012- 0.015. [ 0.3-0.4mm] and timing mark, to be 1.8mm before TDC

So that you could run two different grades of plug, a cold one for when you were thrashing the bike on road and a hotter plug if you were bimbling around dirt tracks. (a bit over the top for a small cc engine is it was more likely to be getting thrashed no matter what you were doing).

@@SpecialisedMotorcycleTransport no? unless its something with US models only having one but whats the point? it doesn't seem to even do anything other then plug a hole that oil would leak from. Looking into it I found a 1977 head that looks like yours but I just wonder why they did it. I have two of these bikes (ones a 76' others a 79') and mine are setup with one plug. im just curious how it works lol
