Camping on an Island in Lake Ouchita, Arkansas for the Total Eclipse With Gina Nice and Gina Spice

Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #787
Date of adventure: 4/7-4/9/24
After skipping the total eclipse in 2017, I vowed never to miss another -- so I drove all the way to Arkansas to visit my friends Gina Nice and Gina Spice, and went camping on an island in beautiful Lake Ouchita to check out the 2024 eclipse...which almost turned out to be a BEEclipse!

Cool video Sarah. I'm 83 and have been a follower of yours for 5-6 years now, I've never seen a complete solar eclipse. I have seen numerous partials. So yours was special. If you take a large piece of stiff paper and pole a little hole in the center of it, you can focus the spot of light onto another sheet of paper or onto the sidewalk, you create what's called a 'pin hole camera'. The image will show the suns profile perfectly... So no need to look at the sun directly. Those bees were weird!!!!............drive safe coming home.......

I’ve seen 2 total eclipses and 1 annular in the past 7 years. Pictures and video don’t do them justice as to the actual experience! The animal’s reaction, temperature drop, the mystical twilight that one is enveloped in. Bucket list activity. Next ones in the U.S. are in 2044 and a coast to coast in 2045. Thanks for the documentation on this one…. 🌚 🌞

We were in Mountain View, Arkansas--gorgeous area! We came in from California and joined up with folks from Kansas City. The eclipse was totally amazing, and I'm glad you got to experience it! I'm a former beekeeper, and having a swarm land on a boat in a lake is astonishing to me. Hope someone took them home and gave them a hive!

On August 21, 2017, I was in beautiful central Oregon with a bunch of solar eclipse fanatics! There were several school teachers, many families, and even some astronomers from Hawaii! No insects, but that is normal here. Our biggest potential challenge was forest fire smoke, but it all blew away for the eclipse. The other challenge was that the media was warning of exceptionally heavy traffic (all presumably out of state tourists) crowding into the path of totality. That didn't happen most places except in Lincoln City, Oregon and at an official eclipse viewing and party in Madras, Oregon, where the traffic jams were legendary.

Eclipse of March 1970..was out at a friend's farm..had forgot about Eclipse..was sitting on hood of car when I noticed it getting dark..animals layed down as tho to retire..a flock of dove flew over going into evening roost..I would glance occasionally at the Eclipse being mindful not to look too long..2 years later had some trouble with the right eye..optometrist asked me if I was a welder..stated I had burn scars on right retina..I find it odd that the optic problem occurred 2 years later..and over the years I've had that optic problem crop up on rare occasions

5:21 Dog's name ought to be "Suitcase". Legend has it that an old timer of the area lost his home when the Ouachita River flooded back in the Spring of '41. "Damn that Ouachita River!" he was heard to mutter into his beer at the local watering hole. A fellow thirsty traveler at the pub happened to overhear him and decided to kick the complaint up the chain to his congressman. The war was over and hundreds of young men had returned to the area without the promise of jobs, so the congressman did what congressmen do - he figured out a way to bring home the bacon. After 2 more terms in Congress, he managed to push his "Dam The Ouachita! Full Speed Ahead on Jobs for Arkansans" bill through both houses of Congress and onto the President's desk. Truman was happy to sign it, since Missouri boys, fresh from the war, would likely stream into Arkansas to lend a hired hand to building the dam, and presto! Lake Ouachita was born. Or, maybe it happened some other way. Re: Sasquatch: They know how to swim.

I beelong to a bee keepers group in Arkansas just to keep track of bee swarming as it moves north. I keep bees in Indiana and it helps me be ready instead of SURPRISE!. My bees were flying around during the eclipse, didn't seem to bother them much. They navigate by the sun position. Those bees down there were just doing normal swarming which is how they reproduce. Not surprised they got on the boat as if they were going across the lake the queen bee is a heavy bee full of eggs and she can't fly long distances. The rest of the bees follow her.
