Years ago we got lost in Caen driving from the ferry to our hotel. I went into a bar to ask for directions (in my poor French) and two guys said ‘follow us, we will take you’. They sped off and it was a struggle to keep up on the 3 mile drive but they delivered us to the door and refused to take any petrol money. They said it was a thank-you for what the British did on D-Day. Always makes me emotional. Great video. Looking forward to the next episode. 💕

@@VantasticAdventures I went with an old friend of mine who used to be a Marine, we walked across the beach and both had the weirdest feeling come over us, very very strange. Strange thing is the French locals really didn't like us very much. Something I'm so glad I did. I took my youngest daughter to Auschwitz and she came back with a totally different outlook on life and also what one crazy man can do to a world. Unfortunately there seem to be a few of them left!!!

On a lighter note, with Iain talking at about 14:30, I thought for a moment he had painted his finger nails ... very fetching! Completely agree, it must have been terrifying for both sides, no choice but to attack or defend - beyond comprehension today for the majority of people and the beaches now all lovely holiday destinations with a very different outlook. The French and the other nations do an excellent job preserving the graves and museums so hopefully we never see it again 🇫🇷❤️

Thank you 🥰 It's definitely one area we would recommend, we have been visiting for a long time and explored all 5 beaches but keep coming back to the same area now as still so much to learn. Caen was almost completely destroyed and it was a very difficult part of the battle so it's quite a new looking city from the architecture but the Caen memorial museum is superb. Bayeux is stunning and again another big British cemetery there too, if you visit around D-Day there is a lot going on but it's also nice to visit when it's quieter as still so much to see - there is a fascinating museum at Pegasus bridge too which explains that part of the battle really well and how pivotal it was. Could have stayed here for weeks 😂👍

Q- How did you find out what was going on and where, or did you just head out and find things going on? Did you find it difficult locking the bikes up to go in Museums etc?

  • @VantasticAdventures

Ah that’s perfect to take him then, fantastic will be brilliant such a great way to learn the history 😁👍 We tend to download a guide to the events before we go, the Normandy tourist board or d-day events website has a really comprehensive pdf guide with all the dates in it for the events, sometimes you need more detail so we also ask the local tourist info but definitely download that guide the best way to play as so much is happening over that period - the French do a great job (also maybe able to pick up a paper copy from the tourist info)👏 no issues locking bikes most of the museums have dedicated bike parking 😊👍

Sorry to bother you Iain. We have just returned home from Normandy and have been publishing a few videos. Our latest one shows us finding Elaine's great uncle's commemoration at Loos Memorial. We had a copyright claim because we added the "last post" music at the end. It says that the Channel is not affected as the owner gives permission for it to be used. Have you ever had this problem when you filmed the music on your video? I would like to leave it as it is. Thanks

    Жыл бұрын

Hello, sounds like you had a fantastic time, looking forward to watching your video 😁 Yes sadly we had this issue too with one of our early videos when filming in Normandy, the music was copyrighted and said we could not use it so I had to remove the whole video as all the content had live music 😥 sounds like yours might be okay though which is good, I think you can check before publishing if any issues. For our latest video we showed a maximum of 10 seconds of the music which was very hard to edit and meant we couldn't show the full section which was a shame but didn't want to fall foul of the copyright again 👍
