Camping Black Gap WMA Part 1 - EP 50

Camping Black Gap WMA Part 1 - EP 50
I gathered up both my pup’s Katie & Moose and headed to West, TX for a camping trip. Destination: Black Gap Wildlife Management Area. This property is 103,000 acre’s and shares 25 miles of the Rio Grande with the Mexican State of Coahuila. Free camping is allowed at the designated campsites on a first come basis but you must have a Limited Public Use Permit (LPU) that can be purchased at any Academy for $12 before arriving.
There are 25 “Fish Shelter” campsites along the Rio Grande, each with a covered 10’ x 20’ cement slab, park style BBQ pit and fire ring/grate. Each of these sites starting with #5 that I visited presented a different challenge to accessing the Rio Grande River. For some campsites the river was kinda far off, others it was near, for some the river had 5’ to 8’ vertical bank, for some the river was deep, others very shallow, etc.
I experienced clear skies and mid 60^’s during the day and mid 40^’s overnnite. After entering the park I passed (1) driving vehicle which we stopped and spoke and (1) Fishing Shelter occupied by another camper, other than that, nobody. Wildlife was spotty but I saw a few Cows, some Burros, Peccaries (Javelina) , Roadrunners, Ducks on the river and Whitetail deer. The river was awesome and I spent more time there than video shows. The dogs really got to explore new things to them and they thrived on it. I will certainly go back.

Chesapeake Bay, I see you really like the remotest parts of West Texas. Check out these guys.(Tim Augustine) They completely circumnavigated Texas - as close to the borders as possible - and mostly on back roads. This is an eight episode series, but the first 3 or 4 episodes are all about West Texas - I especially like the part from Ruidosa to El Paso - when FM 170 pavement ends at Candelaria, they hit the dirt. Thanks. they both show a small level of protective instincts imo. Outdoors they will bark at any people they see at a distance but no growling, snarling or showing aggressiveness. At least I know this. The person they are barking at may disagree.
