Campervan Calorifier Water Heater Install - Van Build Series - Episode 28 - Part 2

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

UPDATE: Houston we have a problem… it may be worth waiting for the part 3 video before attempting the install as I have encountered a small issue.
Let's look at how to install the Corny Keg Calorifier and see if it actually works! This is a budget friendly option for hot water in your campervan and because it uses the wasted heat energy from the engine, it's basically free hot water!
Part 1 is a full tutorial about how it works and how to build your own: • Campervan Hot Water Sy...

    If you use a 20mm holesaw you can paint bare metal then fit 20mm electrical open grommets. Pipe fits through and doesn't rattle or chafe on the van body... Great stuff dude.

    Brilliant (BTW DONT swallow Etyhlene Glycol anti freeze - can be fatal!) If you EVER need to syphon or bleed anything attach a length of CLEAR PIPE. This was you can see the diesel, anti freeze whatever BEFORE you drink it! GREAT BUILD im making mine now! Think I'll sub up IM building a Transporter but basically its still A VAN!

    Cheers mate, yeah exactly it’s toxic. Easy way to tell if you have a coolant leak though. If it tastes sweet 😅 But definitely wouldn’t recommend this method… nice suggestion with the clear hose 👍🏼

    Those pipe inserts (superseal) are meant only for pex to plastic as the compression connection (olive and pex pipe) is biting down on a rubber seal. Reason i say this is many years ago i had one blow off on a job ! On compression just use the regular speedfit inserts ! Good job. I subscribed and liked all your clips ... always something new to see ! Be careful of temperature climbing too high without some form of primary flow control ? A vertical discharge pipe run, via a tundish would be preferable and safer due to the "fail-safe" open vent principle, plus you can see the P.R.V discharge and rectify it ? I might have bedded the whole unit onto a simple drip tray with a screened, floor drop out vent ( like a mini shower tray) in case anything ever leaks ? Also you only want the matrix coolant to flow once the van has reached a specific temperature . So a bypass would also be needed for the van coolant circuit to continue flowing ! Try a high temp (orange coloured) 12v, 2-way motorised valve controlled by one of those (relayed) temp sensors you have ! The middle plate of the keg could be cut - out to take a 600watt, 12v heating element with associated controls etc. Good dump load for excess summer solar once the batteries are full ? Interesting stuff from such a young guy. (I,m clearly a LOT older than yourself ... LOL)

    Top video as ever. Maybe put a solenoid valve ( either thermostatically control or manual switch) so you can let the engine get up to temperature before you heat the water? Particularly if you use it cold weather.

    Again very well explained, looks pretty straightforward when you see it done and for £150 to £200 and a couple of days work looks ideal, especially if you have a bigger van and the need for hot water. Be interested to see how long the water stays warm enough for say a shower if your parked up for a couple of days. Well Done young fella

    Great work as usual my friend, looks awesome. A guy who I know has done the same system but he used white push fit Polly pipe from the engine as it's more robust for under the van. Time to get out in the smiley & give everything a good testing 👍

    I have done mine! It’s an exact copy just a 23L tank. Messaged you on instagram. I thought it wasn’t work working….. you have to have the heating on in the cab to get the coolant to circulate. How strange is that. Took me ages to work out why some times I have hot water and sometimes don’t.

    Thank you, you definitely should, I have come across a problem today though so I will need to cover in the next video… I’m an electrical engineer but do lots of mechanical work also. I was lucky enough to get an apprenticeship that put me through my training. I’m currently working as a HVAC technician. Have spent a lot of time stripping apart and rebuilding commercial calorifiers.

    I have an idea I want to run by you, I’m going to install an engine heater so you have a cylinder with a single coil now my idea is I want to use bobils air heating system if I T off the supply from the engine then before the T put in a one way valve so it won’t circulate round the engine hope you can understand my madness lol

    Thanks for the video! Really well explained. I have a question: Do you think the system could have a negative effect on engine cooling?Or is it just positive that the heat is being shifted that way?

  • @TurnersWorkshop97

    @TurnersWorkshop97

    Жыл бұрын

    No problem, thanks for watching 😁 It will take longer for the engine to warm up as it has to heat the tank at the same time but I can’t see this being an issue. Slightly increased load on the water pump won’t be a problem for an old mechanical type pump but maybe for the modern electric types. Can’t say for sure but that’s my thoughts on it 😊
