Camper Van Travel with a Baby - Family Van Life
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Andrew, Stacey, and Rowan are a family of 3 who bought a 1999 Volkswagen Vanagon camper van for family adventures. We met up with them at the start of their first month-long adventure around BC and AB Canada when Rowan was just 3 months old.
Andrew and Stacey say they chose a camper van because it was an affordable way for them to travel as a family, and because they couldn't put Rowan on the back of a motorcycle just yet.
With a van, they're able to have water, cooking facilities, a bed, space to stand up, and plenty of storage for the baby's stuff like diapers, blankets, a car seat, etc.

We filmed this video at the El Campo van gathering in BC, Canada. El Campo van life meet ups are organized by Go-Van and there's one coming up in Quebec, Canada next month. Check them out here:

I'm glad this young couple didn't let society talk them out of traveling the road with their baby. Fear is a downer and there is no such thing as "the right time". Good for Andrew, Stacey and little Rowan for living in the moment! 👍🏽😃
I love this! Such great inspiration. I live in a 13ft Scamp and I aim to do this with my child (who won't exist for a couple more years), but most people try to discourage me from the idea of living off grid with a newborn/small child. Our species has raised children with so little for hundreds and thousands of years that seem ancient to us now. I've followed them on instagram to continue encouraging them to explore and pave paths for future nomadic parents! Thank you, too, Mat and Danielle for spreading incredible awareness. We need more of ALL of this!

❤❤❤❤adore this
Baby looks at dad talking and cuts a huge grin. Awww. Van life with family DOES work. I spent many of my summers in my childhood living with parents and later up to four siblings in either a topper on a pickup, or in a Suburban. After there got to be six kids in the family my parents bought a Bonair tent trailer with three beds and, an icebox, and a stove.
I travelled all the time with my son when he was a baby. It was awesome😊😊. I would have loved to have this kind of experience. Enjoy it, sweet family!

Can I ask what did you do when it came to health insurance and the baby’s shots and having to see the doctor?
Such a sweet family; loving, conscientious new parents are a good model of being! Lucky child to be of VW stock!
Enjoyed it Matt,..that sure was an alert baby, for 3 months old, and very well behaved, very sweet. I would be very proud if I was him. And what a nice van,..i love it's natural look and feel, instead of the hard plastic that a lot of those have. I so enjoyed this Matt, and vote for more van life episodes. Much happiness and peace to you and your wife. :-) ✌

Thanks so much for all the positive vibes! Yeah, that baby does seems super chill and the van is great. It looks like it wasn't a camper to begin with. I think it was maybe just a bus or something....it doesn't have all the cheap parts of newer RV's. Thanks for checking out the video :)
I love the care and concern for the baby but in reality the only thing the baby needs is momma and dadda! Babies don't even need to socialize until 3 or 4 years old. ❤ love this little family!

Rum Ham of course they would. But by Canadian government standards babies are fine with just their parents love until the age of 3/4 (depending on the province). The parents look very kind and loving. They also look involved with the community around them which is sufficient. Please don't be that person who just argues for the sake of arguing. I just wanted to reinforce that raising a baby in a van is totally ok!

Compared to living at home I'd imagine the baby would meet more people, experience more surroundings, and absorb/learn more than it would staying in the same place. Good luck to this family!

Adrian Veale Lucky kid to see so many places even before he can walk. It wasn't very long ago that all humans lived this way, moving from place to place, always curious about what lay over the next ridgeline.
Oohhhh, she's adorable! What a sweet family!

Happy you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching!
as long as the baby has a routine, he or she can do well. Mommy and Daddy are there, shelter, food, comfort, it's clean.....the baby will be exposed to more which will strengthen her immune system....this is a good thing.
I love it, simple, clean, spacious and complete ... what a nice little cozy mobile home or campervan ...
Hi guys, we are just back from 75 days in our 91 vanagon westfalia with our almost 9 months old baby. We did the east coast of Canada, spent most of our trip in Newfoundland. We had the best time ever! Would be nice to meet you guys some time.

Been following this fam on Instagram. Thanks for showing us that having a family doesn't mean giving up your lifestyle.
Nice job living on your terms and not everybody else's.

Hi from Greece. I think that it's a great idea. You will have so many great memories. The baby is adorable. They grow fast. Hugsfrom Greece, Rhodes.
Lovely family....I admire what you are doing..
That baby are so cute! Hope you'll make your parent proud! 😍😘
Great desition, be always concern of your child. God guides you all the time. You are going make memories of a lifetime. Go for it.
We had a fabulous time at the El Campo van gathering especially meeting Matt and Danielle. Rowan's family inspired all of us including my teenage daughter and I!
I've had two old air cooled (series 2 - not split screen) VW campers and loved them! Hope you enjoy loads more freedom in yours. Note of caution before using the bed up in the pop top: make sure that the hydraulic lifters are sound. I resorted to rigging props when they started failing to avoid the risk of them flattening my then young daughter. BTW now she has a baby boy who's got the same giraffe teething toy :)
Travelling with a 3 month old in a small van?! 😳You guys are nuts.....and I love it! All the best! Make lots of fun memories together. 👍

New subscribe from Brazil, nice videos!
Brilliant video. Hope they continue traveling as their baby gets older, what experiences she will have. 🙂 love your videos Matt and Danielle, not been to Canada yet, working our way there eventually! On another note to the negativity posters, why do these things have to end up as a 'us against them' debate? Regarding health care, I'm a Brit and quite happy to pay my taxes to fund it. The service is far from perfect due to the usual funding issues but at least I know if I end up in hospital I'm not going to get a massive bill for it.

That's why there is health insurance, which works just like car insurance. That way if you are not happy with your healthcare you can go elsewhere. Competition creates better care and better prices.
Looks like livin the dream.

No, that's an onion! (alongside potatoes) Guess they are saving money by not having tv and the food network channel.
People used to hunt and gather from cave to cave and yet here we are. No worries. As long as the baby is well attended for.
Awesome! :)
Nice thanks for sharing...i wanted to know what they did for getting another engine and how much $. I thought that was cool that when they were ready to get a van they bought a broken one and repaired it!!!

All babies care about is having mommie & daddy at arms length!!!!
SLAYERRRRR
great video! where is the kid sleeping?
One thing I don't understand is... how are they not afraid of someone breaking in and stealing their stuff? I've seen a video producer living like this... he has to store his laptop, cameras, lens, etc., so how do you live this life... and still keep your stuff safe? Someone would probably rob a van on my neighbourhood by the first week someone would park it here.
We haven't seen a video on the two of you in your van life style in a while. Are you still traveling and enjoying it?
@ExploringAlternatives
6 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes we're still travelling in the van and enjoying it. We usually house sit in the winter and move in the van for the summer. It definitely has it's challenges at times but it's pretty good over all. For us it's also a way to go find interesting people to interview. Thanks for watching 😀
Hey! Wondering what’s the setup for car seat in the back? Did you get the shoulder strap seatbelt upgrade for the back seat?
Omg, how times come back around! '67-'71 parents!! Hmmm, how did my generation (1970 baby) do?...ugh, that bad huh?
Thats cool, but I am in Baltimore and it 9 degrees outside right now, what about that?
Love the video. However tell those new parents to take that necklace off that baby. I’m gonna freak out. Woooow come on
Great ! Where’s the child seat ?
Ya both should watch Jinti Fell to see how to make the van look decent and more organized and not so I dunno....messy. They travel in a lovely older van with a baby. They have no home. Just van 24/7. Where’s the baby car seat? Ya talk about it but don’t see it. I hope ya aren’t just holding her. Everyone should live like this once to have the experience. Good for you guys.
Another Great Share! I wondered what happened to Matt - Camera Shy (joking)

Hi guys - how did you sort the baby seat problem? x
Where and how do you install the car seat please lmk I just got a van like this and don't know how to set it up safely
Stacey sounds exactly like Spike from Degrassi
any advice for new parents with first baby on the way and 95 vw winnebago eurovan in the middle of remodeling?
Me and my husband are trying to find a van we can convert currently but I'm not sure what we should get especially on our budget 🤔 our baby is 4 months currently and I'm having trouble finding something that is baby safe
Any issues with CPS with living this lifestyle? That's my fear of living in a camper. Would love to.
What? The guy said when WE got pregnant wauw this guy must be amazing LOL!

living the outdoor life I agree!
Im deciding between a number of vans under 40k new or around 30k lightly used. Im 6'4 and need to stand. Sprinters, westfalias, ford high tops, ram promaster high tops are my main choices. Gas milage is also an issue, i need something that will get over 15mph when built out. If you have any other ideas for vans that would be great:) Thanks:)

The Dodge promaster high roof cargo van can be bought for about $20,000 and then just customize it yourself. www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=459955725&zip=02532&referrer=%2Fcars-for-sale%2Fsearchresults.xhtml%3Fzip%3D02532%26startYear%3D1981%26sortBy%3DderivedpriceDESC%26incremental%3Dall%26firstRecord%3D25%26endYear%3D2018%26modelCodeList%3DRMPROMAST%26makeCodeList%3DRAM%26searchRadius%3D50&startYear=1981&numRecords=25&firstRecord=25&endYear=2018&modelCodeList=RMPROMAST&makeCodeList=RAM&searchRadius=50&makeCode1=RAM&modelCode1=RMPROMAST

The Sprinter seems like a pretty good option. It gets good gas milage but apparently the overall cost of maintenance and ownership can be pretty high. Other options are the Ford transit (they make and extra high top with 6'7 head room) and the Ram Promaster is around 6'4. Best of luck!
@bobjohnson3244

The Dodge promaster can be found with a gasoline or diesel engine. I believe Sprinters are only diesel.

That would be awesome! Unfortunately there aren't any that I know of.....it might still exist thought. This family was just at a meet up for people living and/or travelling in camper vans. Thanks for checking out the video :)
Where do you guys work? I'd love to do this
So what happens when the baby needs to go to school?
Is that a grinder and a apple pipe at 1:13 ?
I love this idea! I do wish you two would've put more work into the van, this van isn't sustainable for the 3 of you, especially that cute baby. Do you have a carbon monoxide/smoke detector? And a car seat?
That would freak me out, having my baby traveling in a van. Just too small and unsanitary for my comfort. I'm glad it works for them. That baby is beautiful. ~Smile!

Unsanitary is when they inject your baby with who know what. The rest all natural.
1999 Vanagon? Vw stopped production in 1991.
warning!!!That giraffe toy is known for getting mold build up on the inside of it.
Yeah you guys checked out Randy Jones of Incredible Tiny Homes on FB, KZread, & Web site? Just wondering. They had an all women's workshop on July 16th, 2017. That was my birthday that's how I remembered it... lol... There going to be doing a big thing in October 2017. Selling tickets $20.00 for a chance for a tiny home built there @ the shin-dig. Must be present to win. Proceeds going to some organizations? I think not 100% forsure! I think it's on the website. Loved the video. Keep doing what ya do. Always nice to see you on my notifications. Best regards, Chris from Missouri
Most van travelers have the biggest dogs.... a tiny baby is easy I think
