About Campagnolo:
"Backed by more than eighty years of outstanding innovation, quality and sporting successes, Campagnolo is a premium brand, established and renowned all over the world. Our long history, that has greatly helped the birth and development of modern cycling, is steeped in the innovative spirit that has become an integral part of our company’s DNA. Continual striving for maximum performance and maximum quality combined with innate Italian taste for style and form, make the world of Campagnolo and its products stand out in every aspect." - campagnolo.com
Campagnolo Levante:
"The new Levante represents the culmination of the Campagnolo technologies that have been adapted specifically for use in Gravel cycling."
In this video, JOM Of the Gravel Cyclist crew conducts a detailed technical breakdown of the Campagnolo Levante wheelset, including real-world mixed-surface riding experiences.
Continued from Above:
"Designed, developed and tested on the most challenging and demanding terrain around Cima Ekar, Levante is the first Campagnolo wheel specifically designed for gravel, incorporating all the features needed to deliver the maximum performance and elegance that are typical of Campagnolo wheels."
"The 30mm profile carbon rim with 25mm internal channel and aluminium hub add up to a wheel that is light and easy to handle, stiff on the climbs and sure on the descents. The Handmade Ultra-Light Carbon (H.U.L.C.) rims are the result of extensive research by Campagnolo engineers to optimise the use of both fibre and binding resin, for the perfect combination of strength, stiffness and lightness."
"This new technology sees the Levante achieve a weight of less than 1500 g and offers all the ruggedness needed to tackle mountain trails."
"Thanks to 2-Way Fit technology, Campagnolo guarantees complete compatibility with both clincher and tubeless tyres. The hole-free upper bridge, achieved through the patented MoMag system, allows a weight saving, increased rigidity and now also an aid to using tubeless tyres: no tape is required for the seal."
"Maintaining and cleaning the wheel on tyre changes has never been easier. The stunning Campagnolo Luxury (C-LUX) mirror finish is so smooth that no paint is needed. The lasered graphic details also ensure maximum durability of the finish even under extreme conditions."

    I’ve never spent that much on a wheelset and I’d be furious if I did and then had to dremel the hub. Thanks for the honest review

    I love this wheelset. I've had Boras and Shamals and now the Levante. They are silky smooth and they roll oh so fast. I just mounted the Bontrager G3 rubber and road away. No tape, no Dremel, no issues.

    Barry, been a loooooooooong time since I played on a kit, but I still have two of my snare drums stored. My teacher way back when insisted I learn traditional grip, which I reckon, is the best way to play.

    Could you, please, explain how are you using the tyre lever to ensure the tyre fitting with the Topeak Booster? What is its use here and meaning? Thanks a lot.

  • @GravelCyclist

    I mounted tyres as usual, no tricks, tyre lever to pop on the tyre. An additional layer of base tape was needed for this tyre / rim pairing. Following that, easy mounting with the Bontrager TLR Flashcharger pump (not the Topeak Booster). Good luck!

    You also reviewed the Roval Terra C and CL - how would you compare these 3? They are 1400g, 1500g and 1600g :) I am thinking about one of these 3 models, but not sure which would be the best for me - looking for something fairly light (so Terra C has a minus point), not super-stiff (CL a minus point?), with a good hubs/freehub (DT upgradable ratchet gets a plus point)...

    I got a set when they originally came out. I've had no problems with three different through axle manufacturers, so no Dremeling has been required. What I did have trouble with was noise from garbage trapped inside the wheels. This garbage was small chunks of carbon and resin, as well as the remains of a rubber plug, presumably used either during construction or testing for 'air-tightness'. It wasn't easy to get it all out of there. Both blackwall Pirelli 'H' and 'M' tires mounted up dry and held air overnight, without sealant. They were expensive, but they've worked very well. Honestly, a LOT of other less expensive wheels work equally as well. Once you get on the trail, the dust tones down the C-LUX BS. 😆

    Thanks for the inciteful comment, hopefully my axle issue was isolated. I've heard this garbage you speak of in a carbon wheelset circa late 2000's. Having spoke holes made it easy to remove once the base tape (not tubeless) was removed.

    What exactly is the trick with the tape to inflate them? Never seen or heard of it before. New to me. Or, is that an extra layer of rim tape? I didn't have to use it. 🤔

  • @GravelCyclist

    @GravelCyclist

    Жыл бұрын

    Sometimes you have to install a second, or even third layer of tape, in order for the tubeless inflation to be successful. This always works, no matter how stubborn the tyre is to inflate.

    Interesting that you had to use tape...I didn't. I only had to use a tire jack for the handmade challenge tires...but then again so have many others. I had zero issues.

    A layer of tape helps with loose fitting tyres, this is pretty normal once in a while. If I had a proper compressor, I may have gotten away without using tape.

    Tire fitting - the problem is not with the wheels, but those TIRES! I am running 3sets of Pana gravel kings, on different rims, and setting tubeless is almost always tricky! Use dense soap as a sealing agent... and pressure :) BTW for that reason, and woody feeling, gave up Panaracers almost completely...

  • @GravelCyclist

    @GravelCyclist

    10 ай бұрын

    Soap makes no difference to mounting in my experience, whereas an extra layer of base tape infinitely helps, as demonstrated in the video. "Woody" feeling, what does that mean? Panaracer GK SK tyres in 700c x 43mm are my go to for 95% of my riding, absolute sublime riding, about 20psi front, 24psi rear, and with Orange Seal Endurance Formula, absolute perfection.

    @GravelCyclist Used to run 3 sets of panaracers, all tubeless ready: gravelking and ss for my fast wheels, and two different sets of SKs, 38s and 43s. They were mounted on RR521, XR361, Zipp 303s and Mavic allroad SLs, in different combinations during two seasons. Out of 6 tires 4or5 gave me installation problems similar to those we did experience back in the days of non tubeless tires installed tubeless... Of course extra layer of tape helps because it increases rim diameter... but this is the solution for tire poor interface quality. I know panaracers are half price of premium tires... but had a thought in 21st century we shall have no issues with tubeless interface. Woody feeling - noticeably worse absorption and rough terrain dampening as compared to contis Terra speeds, schwalbes g-ones. Challenge strade biance and gateway are best so far in comfort department Ive found, but price... well, 3x of panaracers... Strade biance 36s are more comfy as compared to SK measured 43s in my opinion. Thick, dense soap really helps, no any water dilution, has to be really thick; however with one SK tire had to use car tire mounting paste - went to car garage :( - did not want to mess with tape on Mavic no-tape wheel

    Why not file down the major diameter (or “crest”) of the threads on your thru axle instead?

  • @charlesmansplaining

    I think Campy went a bit to far with the width of the rims. For the price I may want to use the wheels on the road bike on those super windy days when I would cancel my ride because aero wheels make the bike hard to control. The low 30mm profile makes them attractive but I think they are just to wide. Even for my cyclocross bike these would be to wide because the max tire width allowed is 33mm. There would be issues for those really in tune with cyclocross.

  • @GravelCyclist
