Spoilers for the Adventure Zone: I think it's the banality of how he says it? Just very matter of factly. At this point in the Adventure Zone, Merle's been having these conversations with John for decades and every single time it ends with John killing him. But like the weight of those deaths is lessened by the fact that at the end of the year, as long as at least one of the crewmates of the ship Merle serves on survives and at least one of them uses the ship to jump to a new dimension, Merle will come back to life as if nothing ever happened. But then this conversation happens. And it points out that the cycle they're going through, that Merle is actively suffering for and dying for again and again, could truly well be endless. And what's the point, if that's true? Because this has happened for decades. Merle died over 70 times before the final cycle, if I remember correctly, and most of those deaths were from his talks with John. But this time just feels different. Because this is the first time John ever does something that the rest of the Hunger doesn't do. This is the first time we got the feeling that John is still somewhere inside the Hunger rather than just a manifestation of it. But in the end, he still kills Merle, because he's still a part of the Hunger.

I have no idea what Camp Camp is, I have never watched a single episode of The Adventure Zone before, but for some reason - maybe it's your terrific art, or narrator's soothing voice - I fell in love with this animatic. Since I don't know the story behind it, for me it's incredibly abstract and poetic. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making it. (Sorry for any mistakes, English isn't my native language)

Can I just say that your use of Griffin's Out Of Character Laughter after "I don't always do things right and I don't always do things smart[...]" was INSPIRED??? You already did a great job cutting out the things that wouldn't make sense in the context of the animatic, but leaving that little laugh in was such a great character moment!!!!

I watched this before I knew what TAZ was and I thought it was an actual scripted show and that goes to show how remarkable Griffin and Clint are at storytelling both in general and in this scene. what a great animatic! I never thought about John and Daniel being so similar.

The merle dialogue totally fits David's outlook wow

This is fuckin dope for such a niche audience. I love both works and it works surprisingly well. I also find it weird that you basically gave "dark david" a great backstory with him being a kid and all. Art is fucking fantastic. Keep doin what you doin, dude.

The balance ark is to this day one of my favorite works of any kind, never have I laughed or cried so much because of a piece of media as I have because of my boy Griffins storytelling. I beg anyone reading this to listen to the adventure zone from episode one, it is so worth every minute. It is filled with great humor, speeches like this one and the BEST god damned characters in existence. And do avoid spoilers please, you will be shook by the story.

The bonds we make with others have a life all their own in such a way that, no matter how we might feel otherwise at any given time, will never truly get old. So yes, eternity is terrifying, and it's a thing we need to accept. But eternity is not empty: the bonds we share with one another are timeless as well. So yes, it's a scary thing. But that's okay. Because we've got each other.

It's been a long time coming, but 5 months ago I saw this animation and singlehandedly it is was inspired me to watch not only Camp Camp, but listen to the entirety of The Adventure Zone, which I just finished a few hours ago and which subsequently caused me try D&D for the first time a while back. I've been playing D&D for three months now and have made friends an connected to people that I would have never even spoken to if it weren't for you. Thank you. Thank you so much for this animation. I am here to re visit one of my favorite Camp Camp animations that I would watch over and over again during being stuck inside in 2020, really it still hits the same. I still adore how deep Daniel goes, and truly this line seems to fit his character. Yeah I think about death often, I know I'll live in heaven for eternity in complete happiness but... it's eternal. You don't get to feel the pain or get live the life you had before. And it's goes on and on and you'll see everyone move along because your just one person out of a trillions. For as long as I'm on this Earth, I will see people kill themselves, each other, even the f**king planet that they live on. I will see the horrors and there's nothing I can do. I want it to stop, why must people kill, why do they think that's the answer? Can't people just stop for one second and look at the stars? Feel the ground beneath their feet and gravity keeping them from floating into the endless abyss? And just... breathe?

Shift your focus, change your perspective and REALize, that it is a choice. You can give in to the darkne4ss or bring the darkness to light. Choices. You can lead by example or follow the blind. Well, you can listen to The Adventure Zone as there are more John and Merle conversations there, but I think this one is the heaviest, and they happen very late in the story. The podcast's actually really different from this most of the time, as it's absolutely hilarious, but as evident here, it can also get pretty emotional. I know you said you only want to hear more of these specific conversations but I still recommend listening to TAZ cause it's really really great.

I know I'm late. But I could actually see this happening in Camp Camp. Well not as dark... But maybe yeah. The characters suit their roles. And when Daniel said: ' Huh, I feel sad.' I wasn't even shock when he killed David, I almost saw it coming. But it hurt no less, David is an optimistic person, maybe not at the beginning, but he tries so hard to show people the good. Gives hope to others, but save none for himself. And it just baffles me how despite all the crud he had been handed with, he still tries! But Daniel? He sees things as it is, meaningless to the point where he manipulate others to follow. And he knows its truth, to him its facts, and to others as well. The exact opposite of David. But seeing David try you can't help but feel like trying too. If it was anybody else I would have burn that camp to the ground but for David( if he were ever real), I would actually try. And that's scary because all your life you think you have it figured out. Then all of a sudden this little sunshine comes in, and the longer your with them you start to change. And change is terrifying, you start to question everything you ever thought, start to believe and...hope. Then one day you start to realise it won't matter anymore, you look at the sunshine that comes into your life and struck with the thought of them leaving one day. Never coming back. You reset, start to distance yourself, in hopes of it hurting less when you realise you have to let them go. And that's how I think Daniel thoughts went, he felt sad because, David, probably one of the only people who he thought could understand him would. But they didn't, and its sad, yes, but once their gone the pain will be gone too. I'll fade away like the rest of them. They always have. That will never change. ' And he kills you.' I'm sorry if I drag this long. But I hope no one attacks me on this. I'm just putting in what I thought could have been, and why it happened. Although the audio is from another show and is way different from the Camp Camp, I can't help but fell like for this part they would fit together nicely. Anyway. Ciao! P.S Everything about this is beautiful and amazing. Thank you for making this master piece!

I remembered listening to this years before I started watching TAZ and then I come up this conversation, I remembered this animatic and it still a punch in the gut of Merle’s and John’s ideals, I thank you for this lovely and beautiful work of art

God, you have no idea how much this touched me. it's just, amazing animation, my favourite character and all combines just so good. I found this amazing, just, wow. the expressions, the way you draw both of them, a little bit different from each other it's just so great. it's my third time watching it in a row, you deserve more acknowledge for this.

shoutout to this video for being the first bit of TAZ audio I heard. when I later got into it I had just been like "where do I know these voices from??" i think i realized maybe around the later bits of the Here There be Gerblins arc. once this bit happened i had an "OOHHHHH THIS EXPLAINS SO MUCH" moment,

holy cow?? this is super good?? like I LOVE their facial expressions and this is a combination I never would've expected, but it really works- there's also something to be said about the animatic itself like the composition that really helps the viewer picture the scene in their head (anD YOU MADE THIS IN 24 HOURS?? LIKE HOW???)

I saw this and never knew where it came from. A few months later I stumble upon TAZ. And I watched it happily and eventually I remembered this video and was like "Oh shit wtf"

I AM SCREAMING. I WAS JUST.. SO... IMMERSED IN THIS ANIMATIC. IT IS BEAUTIFUL AND HONESTLY IT TOOK MY BREATH AWAY. THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS. HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY

I just wanna let you know that this is why I started listening to the adventure zone last year and since then I've loved it and finished it twice. So thanks!!

To anyone who's never listened to TAZ: first of all, you should really do it. It's really funny until the end of the third arc, where the real feels start. Second of all, don't worry, Merle died, but he got better. I was so used to hearing it in the TAZ context, I've kind of become numb to him dying during the Stolen Century, but out of that context, it really drives home how horrific it must've been every time. Third of all, I don't even know about Camp Camp, but I might get into it now. And now I'm really sad about John Hungry Man.

A long time ago I watched this video in a hyper-depressed state and it hurts me that I wasn’t able to appreciate how beautiful it is and I’m now going to binge the adventure zone
