Cammus 15nm DDWB-bad or good choice

Ойындар

Cammus 15nm direct drive wheel base on budget but it is good enough to stand on the market against the more polished DD bases from Moza,Simagic or even the entry level line from Fanatec? I drove it on Assetto Corsa Competizione,Automobilista2,iRacing,Assetto Corsa and Dirt Rally with very mixed experience on each of those sim tittles.
Here is what I think about it.

Glad I'm not the only one who think the Cammus has pretty good ffb. Thanks for the detailed, fair and informative review RBM! One more thing I want to note that I've been owning the 15nm model for more than a year now and it serves me well. Some quirks here and there but no major issue.

Amazing review! I've been using my Cammus for about 2 or 3 months now. I'm loving! The only thing that disappointed me were the pedals, the resolution is extremely low (something around 4% for each step). But the base itself I have nothing to complain about, I am completely satisfied.

How is it holding up after 1 year? Wondering now that the C5 is out, whether getting the 15nm as a starter so I won't have to upgrade in the future is a better choice, as the bundle comes with LC pedals, rather than the hall of effect pedals bundled with the C5. This wheel is so underrated. Ive been having a blast with mine flawlessly. The brute force and ffb are insane. So much realistic than my csl dd 8Nm. It is very strong and the loading force is awesome in f1 cars. It can also be tuned down to 50% power for casual driving and feels like driving a real car. Sold my csl dd 8nm and v3 pedals. Cammus pedals feels more realistic with long travel.

That’s exactly how my friend felt who drives on CSL DD Bobby! He said the Cammus is sharper in iRacing and gives him more confidence in driving! The FFB he said is leading and he just fallow the movements and makes little corrections which makes his driving much easier! I have to take that base from him and spend some time with it to see what can be done trough the settings!

What you were trying to say was you practically were feeling the pole pairs when motor active on "06:20" . And also what I understand was Cammus needs to focus on their software as it looks and feels like early days of SC1 "OSW" nowadays %70 of the drivers and hardware are the same. As a DIY wheelbase owner I can tell that software makes the difference for a good personal experience because if you have high quality wheelbase (which means High Res Encoder, custom high quality ac servo motor and effective passive cooling) the experience most likely the same from hardware side. What makes it different and "adoptable to your personal taste" is software which is what simucube is great doing in my opinion. Great video as usual. Thanks for the content and also I' %5000 agree what you said at "02:20" :) love your vision!

great review Stiliyan! I don't need to change the wheel base but watched the video with lots of interest. I think you have the right mindset - assessing what do you have for the price. As you mentioned the buttons on the wheel base might be not the greatest but all taken into perspective does make sense. You spent good portion of the video discussing FFB and you know what... that actually made me wonder. Perhaps you would be happy to share your FFB settings across different sims in some next video? I - and perhaps some other viewers - would definitely be interested in how do you set your sims. Of course FFB is a very personal thing but taking your settings as a base and adjusting it to the own liking could perhaps help some of the viewers who are less experienced with the FFB setting

Great review and thanks for putting things into perspective. Especially like the comments about certain attributes being subjective, e.g. how buttons are supposed to feel. I'm beginning to believe there seems to be a trend where people just look at equipment in a vacuum and not relative with the intended use, the orignal and the marketing. Examples for me was the outcry over the Asetek pedals but also button feel. If a product is advertised for short travel etc. or if it's priced moderately - why would you complain? Maybe companies should be getting better at advertising and communicating very strongly what the feel will be like so people can be trapped and called out on their false reviews that in the end help nobody nor will it drive the market forward. Sometimes just reading the website description helps more than watching influencer videos that basically don't put things into perspective as well as you are. So good job on this review :)

@@chepilevski After doing some comparison testing, I think I prefer v1.5.4 - I'm not sure if this was the version you were on for this review or if you were on something older. v1.5.6 feels to me like there is some signal compression added to increase the amplitude of fine details, but it feels like the tire loading when turning the wheel comes on more sharply because of the boosting of low signals (think like inverse exponential function instead of linear). While v1.5.4 has less exaggerated bumps and road texture, the feeling of the tire load changing when going over dips and uneven surfaces (like the bottom of fox hole for example) feels more natural. I would love to hear your opinion on this when the time comes, and am also curious to know if the kind of trickery employed in v1.5.6 feels similar to whatever Moza/Simagic are doing.

Hey brother, I don’t know what will be better as I really have big hopes for the Asetek DD bases as they got the software from Simucube and that’s the best on the market! Cammus from other hands is very appealing and will get better with the time but needs some work in the software department! If you want to safe some cash the Cammus is great for the money 💪

Max the power at 100% and set the road sensitivity to 4-normal ! Then you can try to put some friction to around 20% damping off and start playing with the other options till you feel satisfied!

I prefer a more raw experience with FFB and try to have filters off or as low as possible. At the end of the day nothing beats track time, all these fancy products can give you consistency but raw speed comes from alot of track time. I'm almost 50 and have spent tens of thousands of dollars over the past 20+ years on Sim gear and regularly get beaten buy the kid with plenty of time on a G25. Enjoy your Sim racing, don't gatekeep because of someone's budget, platform or choice of "game" because it is a game it's supposed to be fun. If putting someone down because of their choices makes you feel better then keep it to yourself or choose a different hobby, the forums these days are nolonger full of people offering help and praise, they are full of critical people whom make others feel bad and I'm absolutely sick of it........ Rant over... Sorry.

Somehow people those days complain a lot but I guess the easy life we have for many years now creates sadness more then happiness! In our age we start to understand how to appreciate little things in life but it is not easy for young people! I still feel the Simracing community is absolutely great and lots of people try to help as much as they can and they feel bad apples aro not going to destroy that 😁

The VRS needs a base- and wheelside-QR or the (not recommended) hub with a static wheel. Otherwise the VRS is awesome and recently sold it, but I almost sold the SC2 Pro instead. It was a close call and the just released December Truedrive update did the trick, since it smoothed out some jolts I found annoying with the SC2 Pro and the track-surface FFB used to be better with the VRS. I also have a wireless Ascher wheel I want to keep and selling simracing-stuff out of warranty to buy new stuff is not a good deal.

I'd be wary of using iR as a benchmark for FFB. They run it at 60hz IIRC, which is about 5-15 times slower than typical. It'll result in harshness in the kind of car models and track surfaces present in iR.

  • @samdajellybeenie14

I don’t think he’s using it as a benchmark necessarily as much as he’s saying “this is what I understand the most so it’s what I can most readily use to compare different bases.”

@@chepilevski That's fine, and I think most "racers" play iRacing anyway. It will give a bit of a wrong image about the true capabilities of the hardware, though. Only really rFactor 2 can support tickrates up to the limits of consumer wheelbases, but the physics are pretty shoddy so it's not the best benchmark either I suppose. In my opinion AC/ACC are a bit better mediums with a reasonable modeling and reasonable tickrate, but you do you.

  • @ArchOfficial

    @ArchOfficial

@@chepilevski A lot of it is going to come down to the individual car model of course. AC has pretty bad self aligning torque in vanilla which some people will really not like. Very peaky slipcurves in vanilla too. Although it will both result in more "immediate" feedback near the tire limits. I feel like ACC might have corrected this at least. AC supports a better gyro modeling nowadays, via CSP, that you can enable as an FFB effect in the settings of CM and it's a physics effect with Extended Physics cars. Better SAT and slip modeling too in general. There is also (electronic) powersteering simulation although that has to be parametrized on a per-car basis. Maybe I will start supporting it whenever I get my Alpha Mini setup built. ;)
