Hi Greg. Love your reports and recommendations. I am now in Logrona on Day 7 with a Talon 33 @ 12 lbs, Solomon Ultra Glide 2, good Gortex jacket and cheep rain pants. All have worked well through 3 rain storms including hail one day. Keep up the good work and thanks again!😊

Also, I stayed an extra day in Pamplona since I started on Sunday in St Jean. May slow down a little more to let the weekend crowd pull ahead allowing for better accommodations and smaller crowds. Definitely less people now!

I find that one of the benefits of taking the responsibility on myself is that I'm less likely to develop negative feelings toward other people. It helped me in my divorce to remind myself that any relationship is a 50/50 deal and I'm at least 50% of the problem. It helped me not be so angry and to accept my own part in it. I don't know that she was as generous. It's just such a burden to carry all those negative emotions. Easier to just not tempt people.

If you have a Charles Schwab account, they refund all ATM fees (domestic and International) and give a great exchange rate. Works great and popular among travelers.

We're flying norse this time. The other one I've flown is French Bee. My favorite one used to be Virgin Air. I thought they did a good job, but they got acquired by Alaska Air. And then I've also flown Iberia, But the prices went way up after COVID. I'm seeing they look like they may be coming down again. Not a bad option to fly into Barcelona, But the flights almost an hour longer.

I actually got everything in there pretty easily. The main thing is you can't have anything bulky. Sometimes it's good to challenge yourself. If it was earlier in the season and I was going to face freezing temperatures, I would have to go bigger. But we're mostly walking in June, so I think if there are any cold days I can make due with my lightweight rain jacket and a couple of shirts. I'll take a look at the 10-day forecast before I go just to make sure.

Hola…the Osprey Talon 33, according to REI, has the dimensions of 24x12x11 (ttl=47), and Delta limits their carry-ons to 22x14x9 (ttl=45), last I looked. That doesn’t seem to be too far off…but I sure wouldn’t want to have to check my backpack, if I got a rigid agent. I am not sure what other airlines, like Iberia, set as their limits. I’ve been searching high and low for a hiking backpack, with a good frame, that meets, at least, the Delta requirement…but, I can only find some 22L, and, they don’t seem to have the frame structure I would like.

So far I haven't had too much trouble, except on one flight. I can't remember where I was, but they made me check my pack. I think it was more because the flight was full. Regarding the measurements of the talon 33, I think the website is measuring with the top lid included like they show it in the photos, where it's fully stuffed. As long as you're not packing it to the max, that lid can be pulled down with the connecting straps so that it's below the level of the frame. So I measured the frame part of it to be sure. I've never actually had any of the agents pull out their tape measure. They just sort of ask if I have any other bags and when I point to my pack and tell them that's all I have, they Tell me it's fine. It's mostly that height measurement. If you add up all the dimensions it's less than the dimensions of what the airline is measuring. So, a slightly shorter and wider pack would be better.

Had a flight 4/25 to biarritz, French Air traffic controllers went on strike had to reroute to Madrid, train down to pamplona, bus to roncesvalles, taxi to st. Jean. Weather has been wet and unstable. 4/29 good.

That used to be the route I took to get there. LAX to Madrid non-stop, stay in the hostel right next to the train station... Wake up the next morning, train to Pamplona, stay the night then bus to SJPDP.

is your pack a good one? I see an opportunity to swap a bad one for better, a guy walking the camino was using a trolley as he could not use a pack, he had the trolley stolen. better to say if the item is valuable to you then protect it, watch, money etc can be replaced try replacing a hiking trolley whilst on a walk.

I have to say that it's pretty low thing to steal someone's trolley. I don't understand the mindset of someone who would do that. But, my point on this subject is that we dedicate a lot of our mental energy worrying about these things and it gets in the way of the spiritual part of the Camino. Worrying whether someone will steal our stuff brings negative feelings of distrust that can keep us from connecting with people and fully appreciating the deeper meaning of this journey. My pack is pretty much like everyone else's pack. I don't really worry about it. I have so little in it that I could use a grocery bag to carry everything. I wonder, did the guy whose trolley was stolen give up and go home? Or did he continue on without it somehow? And if so, what did he learn about himself?

@@TheCaminoGuide he had to use the forward gear service, and he learnt that you cannot trust people so need to take precautions, if you take precautions then there is no need to worry

Seems like a long way to walk for that to be the lesson.

First time I met the guy was In 2018 back then he was running a bar right next to San Anton ruins just before Castrojeris his side job was selling weed :) in 2022 I saw him after Villafranca Montes de Oca doing same thing . True entrepreneur:) but it is a shame that the place is gone ….
