I don’t agree with every jot and tittle of her expressed thinking, but I agree with much of it, and those who can’t “follow” her mode of communication need to update their lagging mental modems. 😁

As much as I adore Paglia, I disagree with her vehemently about gay male pornography - she speaks about it as if it's some kind of yardstick. Of course women aren't being exploited by it but it's extremely degrading to very young men in particular. I've had friends try to get me into it and some of it is just horrible - you'll see these very young men, made up to look as young as possible, appearing bewildered and often very uncomfortable. Often they're not even being paid. I speak from personal experience - not too long ago an old guy got me very stoned and then filmed me and later uploaded the video to a porn site. He made money off it. I wasn't paid a dime. I accept it was to some extent my own fault but it was extremely degrading, humiliating and yes, exploitative.

My favourite female intellectual by far. She's a vibrant woman, physically and intellectually. Passionate, soulful and logical -- a magnificent creature. I refer to her as "Storm a Clear Day". She was right on the money: 24 years ago, predicting the female's dissatisfaction with the new "Feminist masculinity" following the castration of real men. Her caution that the destabilization and decline we see in Western Civilization is following the same trend as has happened, throught human history, at the time of the demise of many other Great Civilizations, is very important. This period, immediately preceding its collapse, is characterized by society's progressive blurring of gender lines (etc) at the height of a period of openness and liberal "sophistication". We must hear this warning. Love her!

Her point of view on shifting the responsibility to women instead of playing victim for whatever happens to us is so interesting. Tough but illuminating, and I think she is right. It's interesting what she says about the "rainbow curriculum" and homophobia. But then how should we handle homophobia at schools. As a high school teacher and a gay man I need to know how to handle some kind of situations. I see other teachers Collings students homophobes and sexist which I think is a terrible way to do handle the situation since you put them on the defensive. I try to have a dialog with them, I don't judge them, just tell them how I see things and how I think what they are doing may be problematic. I don't tell them they have to change their opinions, I just tell them to consider other points of view and to avoid using some kinds of language as insults. I try to convince them with arguments, not imposing it. I think they respect me much more than the other teachers for that, but I'm not sure of the results of it in the long run.
