Camera Mount for PVC Pipe (CAD, 3D Printing) - 2018 Cleveland Mini Maker Faire Wrap-Up

One of my goals for the 2018 Cleveland Mini Maker Faire was to have a camera mounted directly above the robotic drawing machine's drawing surface that I could use for livestreaming and easily creating timelapse videos. To accomplish this, I designed and 3D printed a camera mount that clamps onto 1/2 inch PVC pipe, which I could then easily mount and position on my drawing machine.
However, this camera mount works for any camera with a standard 1/4-20 thread, making it perfect for creating your own camera mount to take video in hard to reach places! You can find STEP and STL files to make your own camera mount below!

Oh man I'm just a minute and a half in and I am already sucked in. I have no idea how I never came across this channel, your content seems to tick all my boxes. Keep it up, you deserve a following! Edit: Can I ask, what is your background, or is there a video on that? I have to emphasise how good your videos are. Short, snappy yet you go into detail. It is clear in the quality of footage used (Such as the Drawings at the start). Again keep it up and I hope to watch all your videos. :D

Why didn't you model the threads in the bases for the pvc adapter threads? Why not use a pvc union instead?

David Davis The main reason I didn’t model the threads was mainly time. Because Maker Faire was pretty close to when I started the project, I wouldn’t have had time to fine tune the 3D printed model with multiple iterations to make sure that the threads would fit. A PVC union would have also been a good option!

What program are you using for visualization? The 75% opacity looks great

David Davis Thanks! I’m using Solidworks for the renders, but could have done the same within Fusion 360. Blender is another great program for this and is also free.
